no, sadly no replay but not a major thing for me. Fetch is in it's infancy, so maybe they might bring out a new box and even include a replay service? either way it's not a bad wee service, for those who want VOD and can't get BT either for price or because they're in a contract. But the more people who use Fetch and BT Vision, the more content Entriq will acquire!

As far as I understand it - and from reading this article:

http://informitv.com/articles/2008/1...isiondelivers/

Fetch uses progressive download which means that no matter what your broadband speed you can't start watching a show until enough has downloaded to allow you to watch the whole show in its entireity.

So that would get over congestion at the exchange or people in rural areas with slow broadband speeds. It might mean that there is a delay before you can start watching compared to Tiscali or BT but for me the shows start more or less instantly.

I've also heard on the grapevine that IP Vision have put a complaint into the BBC Fair Trade Controller to do with getting the iPlayer on to their platform.

Be excellent if they could run iPlayer tho'.

Hi,

Anything purchased on Fetch is available to watch in about 10 secs or you just download and watch within the 7 day licence period.

Thats on your particular line of course - someone else may have to wait longer. These streams will also pause for re-buffering if congestion strikes.

Another thing people need to be aware of - these Fetch TV downloads may break your download limits with your ISP and thus could result in extra charges, throttling etc.

The streams will not pause for buffering - that's why it's called progressive download.

No show will start playing - so that start time could be 5 seconds or 5 minutes depending on your broadband connection - until the whole programme can be watched in its entireity with no interruption.

However you may indeed go over your ISP's download limits so check that first!

The only way to guarantee that would be to download the whole programme first which I do not believe is the case. What happens if your line suddenly becomes very congested half way through a 2 hour film ?.

I dont think there is a debate to be honest. Nick71's claims are based upon having a consistant amount of bandwidth throughout the viewing and if available bandwidth suddenly drops whilst you're watching a programme then it WILL pause & re-buffer.

but to be fair here, if you set your router's QOS to give the fetch box high priority, then you shouldn't have that problem, which is why they suggest you use the homehub over the other routers on BT as its preconfigured for QOS on the vision box is detected.

as for going over your alloted bandwidth useage, most ISP's offer unlimited anyway now, and in the case of Virgin media, the throttling only comes into play after 4pm, and you have to go over a certain amount downloaded... even then unless you are on 2mb it really doesnt affect it that much.

I used to be on 2mb and used iplayer loads took me aages to actually get my 2mb to engage the throttle.

That'll be high priority on your own internal network only - it doesnt cure exchange level & upwards congestion like BTVision does.

We all know that unlimited downloads these days are mostly subject to a FUP so if you watch enough Fetch TV you'll get slapped.

Are you restricted to the company's own downloads or can you also use the box to stream from other web sites, like Eurosport's live online service, for example?

http://www.ipvision-uk.tv/news.asp?p...fID=2141732698

- Talks with BBC regarding I-Player going well
- Awarded Freeview + authorisation in March
- Internet services and applications to be offered in the future
- a national retailer wil offer an own-brand version of Fetch TV in Autmn 2009

A quiet player at the moment but Netgem's involvement means they should be considered a serious one.

perhaps, but only if they introduce optional viewing packs like BT Vision. Pay per view gets expensive.

Hi jongruner, as you seem to be the only one who has Fetch TV...Im thinking of buying the new SmartBox (http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/digitalt...eview-box.html) but was wondering if the BBC iPlayer feature is free? I cant see any mention of it on their website - is this feature exclusive to the new SmartBox or something?

Most is but theres some stuff it seems they don't have the rights to show in this way. Like Dragons Den it shows up to there but won't let you play it due to licensing restrictions.

Anyway I'm taking my box back to John Lewis and getting a refund. The software upgraded on my box and now I can't watch anything off iPlayer. Each time I select a programme it goes to load but then the box reboots itself everytime.
