What food have you tried and were decidedly disappointed with?

I had giant crab claws at the Bellagio buffet and thought they were very average. Didn't really taste of anything and were certainly less crabby that what you can buy in the supermarket over here.

Other people had plates piled high of the stuff!

Oreos. They're nice enough but I really, really don't get people who rave about them being the best cookie ever.

Oysters - gloopy sea taste
Mussels - who eats them without some other flavour (garlic/ wine) dominating them?

Actually most things that come from the sea and are considered delicacies are just bottom feeding crawlies that were probably once only eaten by the impoverished!

Oreo pie is amazing though

Got to agree with asparagus, never understood the appeal (tastes like crap and is often served out of season and "woody") and then I ate some young, white Asparagus and my opinion didn't change one bit - yeuch!

They are very much the poor man's bourbon cream

Goat's cheese - it leaves such a nasty aftertaste, like sucking on an old J cloth...

Sushi... whenever I have had it I have always been left very underwhelmed. Just not my thing I guess.

I agree with Porcupine about fillet steak. Nice yes but not as nice as cheaper cuts. I myself prefer rump.

'Sunday Roast'. Dull, stodgy and boring. I think Brits must be conditioned from a early age to think they are the best meal on the planet. Rotten.

The same goes for fry ups.

I agree (in part) with the roast. For me, if the gravy is a let down, it kinda ruins the whole meal. My nan used to make gravy like water, so the whole lot would be soggy. Horrid.

I cant agree with the fry up though. Again, if done right it can be wonderful. I tend to have a fry up for dinner every saturday. With my own hens eggs, good bacon, tinned tomatoes, fresh local sausages ... oh, and tonnes of fresh bread to mop up the juices, it is the food of the gods.

Come to mine for a roast and I'll change your mind on that. A friend of mine used to hate Sunday dinners quoting the exact same reasons as you. I found out why when I was invited to her parents for dinner one day.

The meat (pork) was well overdone and dry, the roast potatoes were soggy, the veg was overdone to the point of mushy and the gravy was like water.

The next week, I cooked her one and completely converted her.

I like a 'Sunday Roast' but I agree they're overrated. They certainly don't sit at the very top of my favourite meals, unlike they seem to for most other Brits. Then again I'm a fussy eater when it comes to veg.

I only have to smell it and it stinks of old goats

Lobster and seafood is pretty overrated imo.

I like my fillet steak tho
And my mum's roasts are scrummy!

It seems to be a British trait that meat has to be cooked to within three seconds of ethermo-nuclear meltdown.

I love asparagus! Puy lentils were and are fashionable and they're horrible (to me).

People go on about sticky toffee pudding but I think it's pretty bleurgh.

Yep! I'm not sure if it's just infectious admiration because they're popular in the States, but I know a good few people who adore them, apparently with a glass of milk and some peanut butter.

A packet of bourbon creams does the trick for me

Another vote for Sushi - never seen the attraction in eating raw fish. If I go to a restaurant the minimum I expect for my money is for them to cook the food!
