He isn't Gethin Jones!! I really think that is it.

He has been good from week 1, infact too good for me there is no where for him to go and therefore he doesnt wow me, his quickstep was pretty amazing BUT I felt he could have done that from week 1 without Camillas intervention. A friend said to me that if Gethin had danced that quickstep he would have got 4 10s and I agreed because it would have been such a wow moment because it would have been a bit unexpected just like his Salsa. This is a case of too good too soon. Even Austin who is good exudes a certain vulnerability and therefore seems more interesting.

So for me thats whats wrong with Tom

whispers........the face expression doesnt help one little bit either.”

I think that's part of the issue...Tom hasn't been vulnerable get. Every other competitor has.

This brings up certain issues (and all of them have to work together IMO, hence Emma and Tom suffering it, but not Jill or Alesha):

1) The public is not needed - the public feel a bit worthless when the couple is constantly at the top. This leads to...

2) Judge's favourite - why are they always top? Arde they the favourites??? Why are the judges so biased??? Resulting in defending those lower down.

3) Inhuman - I don't mean this in a bad way, but when someone is strong at everything, then they seem slightly different from everyone else, which tends to isolate them from the majority.

4) Previous experience - Questions are asked even when not proved. Look at Austin as an example. This leads to cries of unfairness (again), and a rise in support for the 'underdog'.

Unrelated to these issues (but important when differianting between Tom and, say Jill) is that of Tom's personality. Some call him bland - I'd argue he's very much like Austin: both have a jokey, sarcastic, confident nature which is generally well liked by people. However, as there are two contestants like this in this year's competition, one's being overshadowed by the other IMO, and in this situation Tom is being overshadowed slightly by Austin.

Add to these: the Gethin factor and lack of perrcieved partnership with Camilla, and the unpopularity of Camilla when compared to others (must be something to do with the name ), and I think that's why Tom and Camilla seem to have a reasonable anti-following.

Sorry, that was a longer post that I thought it'd be.

After seeing ITT, I am reminded of a few more reasons why I do not like Tom very much;
- He rattles on about 10s quite a lot.
- His facial expressions on the dance floor are quite frightening.

Yes the 10's thing IS annoying from all of them to be honest. But when Tom was on ITT this week he said I need to get 10s and then said he had never done a routine without a mistake that he hoped the judges hadnt noticed. So theres your answer then mate.

They've mentioned 10's twice - in Wednesday's ITT and tonight....hardly 'rattled on' and Austin spoke far more about getting a 10 in the run up to his QS. Lisa has mentioned 10's, as did Rachel. Tom is no different.

If he gets asked by a producer if he wants a 10, what's he going to say?

I am a Tom fan and have never understood the 'smug' tag from the minute it was uttered by Craig. Yes he is confident on the dance floor but doesn't seem overconfident off it, in fact he seems honest (admitting to his mistakes) and self deprecating ('I looked like a prat')! Yes, they have all gone on about 10's so of course they want to get one, but I've never got the feeling that he thought that he deserved one. If absoloute perfection is required for a 10 then I'm not sure that anyone should have got one yet.

I dont think that Tom wanting 10's is a bad thing at all. He is just aiming to achieve the best score possible in a competitive arena. Nothing wrong with that.

But as we know sometimes this can be frowned upon by the British public. People aiming high often get accused of arrogance.

Not saying Tom doesnt have his faults like the rest of them but I like his competitive nature. I dont think he is anymore competitive than Austin.

I haven't been a great fan of Tom up to now but I'm getting to like him more, and I wouldn't dispute his dancing talent.

Austin didn't actually! Erin did and then everyone asked him about it, not once did he say he either wanted or deserved a 10, he said it would be nice but that he just wanted to do his best!

As to Tom, I really, really like him every time I see him on ITT, he's such a lovely guy, really sweet and funny and he and Austin seem like really good friends.

But something happens when he dances, I think he would have been more likeable with any other partner. Camilla and Tom seem to bring out the worst in one another, they both need calmer personalities to dance with, they just seem to egg each other on until they're like duracell bunnies on speed.

Tom would have been great with Lilia, I think, she would have stretched him choreographically, but she would have also calmed him down with the campness of the routine.

Camilla is just too everything, too bouncy, too gurning, too manic, her outfits are too awful, just too much

So in effect, no different to what Tom said.

For goodness sake, I wasn't comparing contexts, just saying that others have done the same thing without being told they are 'rattling on'. Hardly cause for the rolled eyes.

No but also not accurate. He is being labelled with an awful lot of stuff that he's never done or said and it's getting annoying.

You said Austin said it far more, implying that Austin is somehow the one always going on about 10s, when he's never said anything about it, and that him talking about it was a bad thing, it may not have been what you meant, but that's how I took it.

If I'm being overly sensitive, I apologise! But the Austin and Tom bashing on here can get so annoying when Jodie and Christine especially seem to be getting an easier ride for not being very good.

See, perhaps that's why without knowing the full story, written text is misleading....as i am in 100% complete agreement with you on that last sentence.

Austin and Tom are the 2 who are last on my bashing list (if i had one!!) and i hope they are the final 2.

And perhaps my use of 'far' was unecessary.

I just don't find his dancing appealing - particularly the horrendous paso face and he's not helped by dancing with Camilla. I'm not a fan of her - I don't think her choreography, particularly in Latin, is at the standard of the other pros and I'm not a fan of her as a dancer either, bit frenetic.

There's nothing wrong with him, there's just people I like more than him.

You know what, Ali-F?
You have just explained to me that intangible "something" that bothered me about Tom.
In the first week HE was my favorite, not Austin or Rachel. But later... not so much. And I have realized just now , thanks to you, not only that I don't like his pairing with Camilla, but also that Lilya would have been an ideal partner for him (don't know about the height difference, though).
Lilya has warmth and femininity to bring a necessary balance to their partnership. They would have giggled a lot, but that giggling would have translated into crowd-pleasing routines and attracted a lot of votes. Me for sure.

Then I'm sorry hun, us Austin and Tom fans need to stick together I guess, because there are enough others criticising without us fighting amongst ourselves!

I think Tom is a lovely lovely bloke. I could have hugged him on Saturday when someone (Bruce I think) said where did you get those hips and Tom replied 'Uncle Roger' hehe Ah Bless He seems quite a nervous person to me - not smug at all...he shows a lot of nervous expressions and gestures in unguarded moments....very endearing. His dancing could be superb if only Camilla would calm down a bit and let him relax and enjoy himself a bit more.

I was more or less neutral about Tom until all the wedding fuss began. And continued. And continued. Then he started to get on my nerves... and then came the truly weird paso face. And I was done. I didn't like him.

It doesn't help that I've never taken to Camilla, either. I can see that she is technically very competent but I just don't take to her. Not her fault, but it doesn't help.

This is the first series I've wished celebs were paired with another pro.

I don't dislike Tom at all, but I'd like him a whole lot more if he wasn't paired with Camilla. I used to like her but now I find her too OTT as I said before. Love the comment about the Duracell Bunnies and I second the 'Comment of the Week' award nomination!

I'd also like Lisa a whole lot more if she wasn't paired with Brendan.

Weird - a different pairing has never even entered my head before.
