I've just noticed my 6 month old kitten has a sore, red slightly protuding bottom. Anyone know what this might be - could it be a dietary thing? I've been feeding her on grown-up cat food - perhaps I should switch her back to kitten food? Her poos seem normal. Should I take her to the vet? Any ideas please, I am worried.

There are a number of things it could be.
Infected, blocked or abcessed anal glands.
Worms or another parasite causing irritation.
I too would get the little one vet checked for a proper diagnosis.

Thanks for the advice. It seems to have gone back to normal now - I think it might be a reaction to her wormer but I am keeping an eye on her. She hates the vet and it's such a struggle to get her into her box, I am really hoping I don't have to take her tomorrow!

The earlier she gets used to getting in boxes the better!
You dont want to fight a adult cat just because she hates vets... Show me a cat/dog that likes the vet!

Is she neutered?? 6 months is the perfect age to get her spayed.

Could you try leaving her carrier open for her to go in and out of all the time? If you can make her accept that easier it might make the whole experience better for you both.
I would urge you to take the advice of the previous poster. Leave your cat carrier out with a blanket on the inside and door off the front -- that way your cat will learn to use it as a bed and be less likely to be afraid when you need to take her to vets

She's booked in to be spayed and have her last set of jabs anyway on Tues (I've only had her a month - she was a stray). I'll get the vet to look her over then but she seems fine now and her bottom is entirely normal. How strange.
Will try the box advice - last time, me and the cat both ended up really traumatised by the whole ordeal. She loves me picking up and cuddling her normally, but seems to just know when it's vet time and goes crazy. In the end, my husband grabbed her and shoved her in her box, and she still hasn't forgiven him for it. Got to drop her off at 8am this time - I'd better get up at 6 to be on the safe side!

She probably just picked up on your anxiety. You could also put a couple of treats in the basket. I have toys dangling from my kittens travel cage thingy. He looks very swish in there
