Right. X Factor is over, and I've managed to put in a grand total of 0 votes across the 2 programmes. I feel so proud of myself
Lisa and Brendan: a good opening, but there was far too much gapping for the score she got. I enjoyed it, and I think Brendan is a very clever choreographer, but Lisa's technique let her down a bit tonight. And the song seemed a litttle slow for a quickstep. I think she'll be in the bottom 2 again, but the judges will save her unless she's up against Austin, Tom or Rachel. 8/10
Christine and Matthew: I thought she looked good in training but of course all we saw was a few seconds of a 90 minute routine. The bits we saw in training were actually the best bits! The arrangement of the music was somewhat plodding which didn't help. She flexed her knees, seemed to be looking to Matthew for guidance like Heather did in her chacha, didn't seem confident out of hold and it just wasn't her best dance. I thought Arlene and Craig were spot on with their marks. I know this may be an unpopular view but I think Matthew should take some of the blame as the choreography didn't really go anywhere. He of all people should know how important a really strong opening is - it got him 3 10s last year. 6/10
Jodie and Ian: I thought she did a really passable jive. I would have liked to have seen more basic jive content, but if he'd done that and she couldn't handle it I would have criticised him for not tailoring it to her, so I think on balance it was a very good routine. I know Ian was angling for 8s but I thought it was slightly overmarked. I think she did a reall good job in the time she had, and I think we all know how hard it is to do physical stuff when we're poorly, so well done Jodie. 7/10
Tom and Camilla: I agree with the comment about leading with his arms, but on the whole I was impressed with this routine. I don't think Tom gets any credit for being a really good dancer, and his ballroom and latin are equally good which puts him on a par with Rachel technically but he is a better performer. 9/10
Rachel and Vincent: Oh dear. Just when I was warming to her, the judges throw cold water over the whole thing. It was a nice, sweet foxttrot but I don't think it would have got 40 if she hadn't been in the dance off 2 weeks ago. Strange coincidence - best female in the dance off, cue overmarking. Her rumba last week whilst very good didn't blow me away and this dance less so. I thought it was very good but like Matt Di Angelo's 40/40 last year, the score has clouded my objectivity. No other female would have got that score with an identical routine. 9/10
Austin and Erin: I felt sorry for them following a perfect score. They did well but I don't think teaching latin is Erin's forte, and Austin is better at ballroom. Tom is a better overall dancer and as I posted last night, could well pip him to that final spot. The song choice didn't help - there's a chacha beat in there but I thought it was a bit too camp a song choice to work. 7.5/10
Dance off: difficult to predict! I think the boys and Rachel are safe. It'll be two of Lisa, Christine and Jodie but I can't shake off the feeling that Christine is leaving tonight - it's something I've felt all week. I don't particularly want any of them to go, but I think any of the aforementioned 3 leaving will be fair as they are the weaker dancers in a really strong field.
Finally, John and my lovely Kristina. The highlight of the show for me. Endearing dance, lovely words from both of them. I think Kristina has a definite place on next year's show... so roll on series 7!
