I'm surprised that nobody has taken into consideration that there has been football in the afternoons this week and so quite obviously Neighbours would have taken a hit plus the weather is better at the moment so that would contribute do ratings declined.

Also, all soaps have dips in ratings I don't quite see the fuss TBH.

Blimey, I knew it was a long contract, but I didn't know it was that long. Thats a hell of a commitment from Five.

And yes, Jonwo does make some good points that we ought to consider - teatime ratings will, naturally, take a hit from football. There are no more teatime matches remaining now - the third round of the group stages is all played at 7.45 as are the knockout matches - so we can see what effect this has.

Home and Away is even longer as it's they have bought it for life as long as the show is being made in Australia and as H&A is the top performing soap Down Under, it is going to made for some time.

While Neighbours ratings aren't as impressive on Five as it was on BBC One, it stills performs well for Five and beating both BBC Two and Channel 4 at that time of the day in the afternoon. The loss of Neighbours has also weakened BBC One's daytime share.

Yes very true. Summer & the football would explain most of the drop.

Doctor Who and Trooping The Colour did well, C4 looked to have a good Saturday and Five with a respectable figure. Quite poor for ITV1 though.

Its summer & only a few shows where people make a special effort to watch will do well. Greece vs Russia wasn't going to set the ratings on fire though. Only the Dutch can do that

That's dreadful for BB Joint least watched episode ever.

It's going to be a dissapointing 12 Weeks for C4...

Most people seemed to stick with BBC1 all night and the other channels didn't get much of a look in.

Great share for ITV's first game, but surprisingly low results for the 2nd game.

BB Even though it's Saturday that's dismal On the other hand though great result for Mr & Mrs Smith-winning it's slot from around 11pm. Peaking at over 20% share! It obviously benefited from poor competition from other channels.

FIVE put in a good performance as usual

Do we think that the BB brand is now so damaged that the whole series is going to struggle or will it pick up to normal ratings later on?

It won't. Even if the show only ends up averaging at 3m it will still be a big success for Channel 4. They took their hit from the payout last year with a loss so for the next couple of years Big Brother is essentially a free show that on weekdays consistently delivers at least 3m. To put it into perspective, Channel 4 shows usually average somewhere between 1-3m.

Its disappointing for Big Brother, but not necessarily for Channel 4.

I still feel that they should have put out a better advertising campaign before the series began instead of just expecting people to watch because of the name which only happens to a degree.

They NEED to take December as a golden opportunity to get a massive advertising campaign out there for Celebrity Big Brother to win viewers back. If they can't manage that then BB will probably be moving to Sky One in 2011.

I still have hope that this years average will beat that of last years with officials (3.9m) but the first few weeks are critical.

Last weeks Saturday show managed to add 500,000 viewers on Channel4+1. I know last weeks Saturday ratings reported here didnt included Ch4+1 figures

Has anyone realised that DS are always a couple of days late with their ratings articles.

Its not just ratings that DS news is slow on

Back to BB ratings, I wonder if they will improve after Euro? With a match on every night it runs past 9pm it will obviously dent BB a bit because of BB's male audience.

Monday-Wednesday I know are on at 10pm but I still think that even though the shows aren't directly against eachother it could still have some kind of impact.

EDIT: 5 minute breakdown from last night

21.00 1.24m
21.05 1.52m
21.10 1.55m
21.15 1.34m
21.20 1.60m
21.25 1.65m
21.30 1.34m
21.35 2.27m
21.40 2.19m
21.45 2.02m
21.50 2.32m
21.55 2.52m

The match ended at 9.30pm- BB gained almost 1m viewers by 9.35pm which suggests it has been hit by Euro.

Just 1.8m and a 9% share is simply atrocious for BB. No other word to describe it.

There is now no denying that the show is officially a dead duck for ratings.

Shame for C4. But I have no sympathy for the programme makers.

For BB it is, for C4 it isn't.

Its like saying a show gets 6-7m on ITV1 so its a flop. The launch is still Channel 4's highest rated show so far this year.

I doubt it got that many this week because C4 itself had 2.3m for a repeat of Mr and Mrs Smith.

Maybe a couple of hundred thousand watched on +1, but even still, that is very poor for Big Brother and hugely disappointing for Channel 4.

I doubt that very much. Hijack proved that BB has no future on a purely multi-channel outlet.

You're trying to say that 0.7m viewers isn't great for a multichannel? Considering the slot average was 0.3m that figure is brilliant. There is no way to compare it to the main show because it was on a completely different channel.

By the end of 2011, only London, Meridian and Ulster won't have been switched to digital, so essentially the definition of multichannel will be a lot different, especially for Sky One which is seen as one of the main channels.

Nope.

Channel 4's highest rated show so far this year was an episode of Grand Designs broadcast on 13th February, which was watched by 5.45m. (official rating)

When the official figure comes out for the BB launch, it might beat that slightly, but probably not by much.
