700,000 is good, but not brilliant, considering how much a show like Big Brother costs to make.

Sky One itself gets better viewing figures for a couple of its imports.

I don't think Sky One will benefit much from digital switchover when it isn't available on digital terrestrial, the main platform people are switching to.

Its a very cheap show. It cost Channel 4 £180m because ITV and Sky wanted it and Channel 4 wanted to keep it. The budget for BB8 was £6m and that includes spin offs. Given the amount of spin offs and overall airtime the show gets across 93 days, it is very cheap.

ITV treated H&A really badly. They cut it to pieces, throwing out whole episodes more than once. (They didn't want any storylines with guns involved after Dunblane). One of the main reasons it went to five is they said they wouldn't cut it.

I guess that's not actually too bad. Not great but still, 1m extra tuned in after half nine. And the friday first show peaked at 4.4m once the friday game finished.

People really ought to take this into account

Shame for C4. But I have no sympathy for the programme makers.”

One year ago it was getting 2.1m and a 9% share mid-week. 1.8m (exclusing +1) and a 9% share is not as bad as you are trying to make out.

+1 got half a million extra viewers on Thursday night.

Great Doctor Who ratings last night. Its done really well since it returned to the 7pm slot - I expect its going to see a promotions blitz this week for the return of Rose, though a 6.40 start could stunt the ratings, especially if the weather is good.

To be honest with you, I don't think the advertising really makes all too much difference with Big Brother, these days. The problem for BB is that people have made their minds up about it - no amount of promotions can make up for the fact that most people cringe when its mentioned. Everyone knew it was starting, but no-one wants to tune in anymore. It needs to make people believe that its different now, and you can't do that in a 30 second ad - thats a long and painful process.

The 9.00pm slots are suicide for BB. It can't generate enough excitement and buzz anymore to compete with other big draws (such as the football). It needs a consistant home at 10.00pm, and to serve its loyal audience from there.

So what?

I'm sure Channel 4 would rather those 500k watched it at 9pm on the main channel to be honest.

Why?

What difference does it make to them when people watch it.

Same adverts, same advertisers, same money.

Great share for ITV's first game, but surprisingly low results for the 2nd game.

BB Even though it's Saturday that's dismal On the other hand though great result for Mr & Mrs Smith-winning it's slot from around 11pm. Peaking at over 20% share! It obviously benefited from poor competition from other channels.

FIVE put in a good performance as usual”

Personally I am not surprised by the second games low figures. Greece v Russia had uninteresting written all over it.
With the Lottery show and Casualty the BBC have a couple of stalwarts that will always have a reasonable figure, rising when ITV have little in opposition but also providing a fair share when ITV have blockbusters like BGT. In fact the Lottery show is worth pitching against BGT, X Factor etc as a certain body of people are always going to watch.

As for Dr Who, it is and always has been fabulous entertainment-a bit of BBC Hollywood and brilliant escapism- though I still maintain it should be winter fare, not playing out its season finales in potentially bright sunshine and high temps.

It makes a difference because it's damaging E4.

On Thursday the +1 repeat of Big Brother got more viewers than Big Mouth, which has lost roughly half its audience this series.

some people just don't switch channels..

but neighbours has been poor since its move (steph and toadys wedding aside) I must admit i'm missing it a few times a week now, as the stories are soo dull, and the characters just sit around Charlies bar all day..which happens in all soaps to an extent, but before you used to see Janae at the garage, Karl in his surgery etc they used different sets and you saw characters doing their 'day job' now they just stand around arguing all episode.

i'm hoping that the upcoming influx of new characters will help it.

and they really need to sort out the 'filmed in the dark' business, i don't care if its HD, Filmic or whatever the reason, is you can't see some of the scenes properly its so dark on screen!

Big Mouth is the only BB show that is up on last year.

And +1 viewers could just switch to E4+1.

Well I don't record viewing figures and I can't seem to obtain them now but I definitely remember Big Mouth getting in the region of 800k-1m quite regularly in the last series.

This time it's only getting around 400k.

Last year it was averaging 300,000.

With Russell it only got 700,000.

The figures for BBLB have almost been slashed in half. Last year about 0.5m people would watch, this year, its 0.3m. George and Zezi (especially Zezi) are very unpopular atm.

BBBM got almost 1m viewers during BB7 (2006) when it was Russells show and when it had really come into its own from the previous years pre watershed BBBM (hard to imagine now!) and BB5's EFourum.

With guest hosts (it was never going to work) it gets the figures it gets this year which I think are similar to those of last year.

like most people have said BB isnt doing that bad!

Someone posted the 5 min breakdown, and it got another million after the football ended!

I also dont see why channel 4 cant put it on at 10 every night!!! wasnt that one of there reasons why Desperate Housewives was axed?

and on the neighbours topic... yes the numbers have dropped but at the moment its the summer and its up agains football?

DH wasn't axed. Its took a mid-season break and will return to channel 4 later in the year to show the final 7 eps of Season 4. Bloody C4- i want them now! These breaks are rubbish!!

DS are confusing me now. I read the latest article and thought it was strange that it was reporting 2.9m for BB when here it says it got 1.8m until I read it was talking about Thursday! What's the point reporting on Thursday's ratings now? They might as well not bother.
