This is not really ratings related but does anyone know if Robin Hood is returning in the autumn or is Merlin taking its slot? With Doctor Who only in specials next year maybe RH is being held back till Spring 2009.

Another good result for DW. Adds 0.2m on last weeks ep, whilst BB's 1.8m is truly terrible. Last year they scrapped the Saturday highlights show and screened Friday's and Saturday's action in the Sunday edition. Maybe they should do this again.

Doctor Who recieved a very respectable number of viewers last night, almost 40% of the audience is amazing!
I suspect EastEnders wont do as well as it normally would tonight, probably 7m.

The thing about BB is that it wont be axed. Heck even 1 million viewers is good enough for C4.
What has changed is that it will NEVER be as popular as it was during BB7- That was it's peak, and I'm afraid it never go there again.
Believe it or not, it was a more innocent time then, controversy was either someone sleeping with someone or a big fight that resulted in nothing but someone over throwing a table.
However, add in two perceived racists incidents and a string of major controversies then you begin to lose the publics trust and interest. It just doesn't have the hold it once had. People may disagree but CBB5 did damage the brand, you just need to look at the ratings to see that.
Lets face it, shows like the Apprentice and BGT have taken over that 'water cooler' flag.
People love The Apprentice because its a bunch of very well paid business people making a fool of themselves. And people love BGT because initially its about deluded people that think they have talent.
But what glues these two shows together is the fact that they tap into people's aspirations... because the end result of these shows is that someone becomes SOMEONE- through talent and skill.
This is something BB lacks. BB is seen as a show full of freaks and chavs. And whilst 3 years ago we might have laughed at them, now, because of yob culture getting increasingly violent- We now look at them with disgust. Let us face it, BB has gone beyond a guilty pleasure show.... into a show where most people are ashamed to even watch it.... let alone admitting that they watch it.
And another major factor is that The Apprentice and BGT never out stay their welcome..... They are one once a week for an hour. Or in BGT's semi finals case.... 5 days a week then finish. Whilst with BB its more of an investment... sometimes you had to have watched the previous nights show in order to get what's on tonight.... Some people don't want to sky+ it because they're too embarrassed to.... etc etc. It's just a commitment we don't want to make anymore.
I have to say, I use to be a huge BB fan, I wouldn't let anyone say a word against it. But for some reason, for two years in a row.... I haven't watched a single episode past the launch night programme..... Which I only caught the tale end of. Although I've heard some very good things about this year's show.... But for some reason, I just can't bring myself to watch it anymore.... Don't know why?
So in conclusion...... Has BB had its day..... Yes...... Will it be axed..... No.... it's still doing enough to keep C4 and Endemol happy..... Will 8 million or so watch the finale this year.... I wonder what Peter Fincham is doing at ITV now he's started. Let's hope he's shredding Simon Shaps' schedule in favour for a better approach to start in September.

Most changes from Peter Fincham won't be visible on screen till at least 2009 though we could some changes in the autumn. He renewed The Fixer and Moving Wallpaper, signed Piers Morgan on a golden handcuff deal and I think given Foyle's War a reprieve
I agree that a weak ITV is bad for the TV industry and even the BBC have admitted that a strong ITV helps keep them on their toes.

Not quite. I agree that BB7 was the year where Big Brother felt like a national institution and an event but it wasn't the most popular series. The most popular was in 2002- BB3. It was this series that made Big Brother and Jade Goody had a very big part to play in that. Ironically it was CBB5 which broke the brand and it was Jade again who had a big part to play in that.
I think BB is damaged beyond repair and it will never be restored to how it was. But I think the show will continue to plod along and be a quiet success for Channel 4, but I feel before the show is axed in its entirety the UK format will be ditched in favour of the American format, but I can't see that coming for a couple of years yet.
Surely he can fix the schedule though, the double Coronation Streets and various other things are a total disaster? Coronation Street should air at one time throughout the week, not two, and be limited to one episode a night to let the schedule breathe.
The Piers Morgan Show is a good idea provided it gets a good home on the right night. It needs to form the fabric of a more varied schedule.
Recommissioning Foyle's War is a good idea because it pulls in the punters. I'd air it on Fridays at 8pm after Corrie, before News at Ten (which needs to be inserted on Fridays asap).
The Fixer / Moving Wallpaper are all good moves, they should get prominent 9pm slots when they return probably in January / March. Primeval is returning in January for 10 episodes, again, a good move as it is ITV's answer to Doctor Who on Saturday nights.
Shame they axed Afterlife as that was something different and I gather had a following with fans. Shame. Harry Hill needs to be back for a 20 episode run at least. Pay him whatever necessary.
I think the News at 6.30pm should be moved back an hour to 5.30pm, and Golden Balls should air in this slot or some other type of Quiz Show, to add some variety to the evening schedule. A News Update could be instated at 7.55pm.
Fincham needs to look at 8pm and consider moving The Bill to a new fixed home as it is so often disrupted for Soap Awards etc and needs to find its place in the fabric of the schedule. I think some lifestyle docs like Channel 4's offerings would be good (How Clean Is Your House, Property Ladder, etc) and perhaps one drama commission.
For 9pm just a slew of one off, two part and series dramas and some decent hard hitting documentaries perhaps under a brand (World in Action?) to rival Dispatches.
They would do well to fix post-News at Ten with shows like Tarrant on TV, Police Camera Action, and more Sandbanks-esque shows as they perform. Really ramp things up a bit.

It gets more press coverage now than it ever did - back in the Piers Morgan days he refused to give it coverage in The Mirror.

They have a good team in place now and I think we will see a recovery forming within a month or two.
And if not... well its still got another 4 series under contract to try again (CBB6, BB10, CBB7, BB11).

That is missing the point. ITV have still seen the success of Come Dine With Me on CH4 and have decided to try and copy that success. It's the ITV commissioners that are commissioning copycat formats. The production company is irrelevant. The production company aren't copycats but the commissioners are.
Just found some shocking figures from Sunday's show which ran from 00:45-01:50. The figures and share especially are awful!
