I think I'm right in saying Channel 4 are contracted to show 2 more series after this one anyway, aren't they?

They were getting 500,000 the other day weren't they?...

The shows are designed to promote itv.com so the audience figures aren't that important so long as they grow traffic to the website bingo product.

Its really just a 1 hour infomercial for ITV's online pay bingo

Good for Channel 4 - BB rating up quite a bit from the night before...

Bad for Channel 4 - SNP taking a 500,000 dip on last week!

Sunday ITV1 Ratings
Coronation Street- 5.7m (31%)
Euro 2008: Turkey v Czech Republic- 4.6m (21%)
Headcases- 2.0m (10%)

That's the least watched Coronation Street episode this century. Possibly the least watched ever!
edit: just remembered it's not usually on sundays at 7pm.

Well, SWMBO didn't even realise CS was on. She's got a pleasant surprise coming when she looks on the Toppy this evening!

I didn't even realise Coronation Street was on last night so I'm not surprised it didn't do very well at all.

The 2 low ratings there are down to the schedule being messed around. It's no surprise that Headcases finished on its lowest rating of the series when the series has stopped then started again, moved nights and timeslots. I hope ITV will give it another run, as it's a nice little show for ITV to have.

ITV did not really have any other choice, but to put Corrie in the 7pm slot, but they could have promoted it a bit more. I missed Friday's episode, does anyone know if ITV promoted the Sunday episode at all?

The messing around of the soap schedules means established shows in the same slots (The Apprentice/DW) will benefit greatly.

My proposal would be that the soaps take a summer break each year for 2-3 months. They could end with a cliff hanger which would generate huge interest when they start up again in September. Meantime the tv companies could try out new programmes (incl. soaps) during the summer months.

It will never happen of course, but I can dream!

Oh right. Shows like Pushing Daisies and Gossip Girl perform very well on the ITV catch up service, but don't perform as well in the ratings. Infact wasn't the success of Gossip Girl on the internet one of the main reasons it was recomissioned in America?

BB may well be up on the Saturday edition, but I'd expect more than that considering that's including +1. It seems to be starting to fall now ino the 2 million range which is not good.

Sunday Night Project not doing that well either-I thought it would capitalise on relatively poor competition in the 10pm slot, but obviously not. However the ratings are decent enough and it does what CH4 wanted it to do-a show on a Sunday which CH4 can relate to.

Back To You makes a decent start, considering More4's showing got dismal ratings. The 11pm slot seems to be where CH4 are heading for the American Imports with E4's reaper getting the Tuesday 11pm slot.

No. itv.com have launched a pay per play bingo game online. The tv show at night on ITV1 is free to play but promotes the online website.

So ITV is trying to get people to go online to pay bingo and hopefully (for them) generate revenue from the webite.

I think that would benefit the soaps massively. They could air as a season from September to June, then take the summer off. I personally would enjoy them a lot more if they didn't air so relentlessly.

And especially when you have football tournaments interrupting the schedule and ratings decrease across the board every summer anyway, it would be an ideal time to try out new things.

Like you say it'll never happen but it would be nice.

I'm not sure. The show seems to get an awful lot of press over there though despite rating so low on the network as well.

I don't think they are bad figures for after midnight, especially if you are on about sunday night/monday morning (you might be on about saturday night/sunday morning)
ITV know they will not get high viewing figures, like someone else said, it is to get more people to ITV.com where they have lots of adverts as well, and they want people to sign up to ITV Bingo and ITV Casino where they get a lot of money.

They do this with the soaps in Australia where they take six weeks off for the Summer and come back in February. I think this would work not only for the soaps but also dramas like The Bill and Holby City.

5.7 million for Corrie really is low. Yet 31% of the audience is what it got on Wednesday and Friday last week. What did EastEnders get an hour later?

To be fair though CS was on just too early - a lot less people watching at that time.

The soaps will be back up when the football's over. Can't believe the terrible ratings Corrie and EE are getting...

Big Brother got exactly the same as it got for the same show (second Sunday) in BB8, despite the fact it showed Lesley leaving.

SNP is not down on usual, though its not up either. It usually gets 1.7-1.8m when it follows Big Brother.

I normally watch Corrie, but I was out yesterday from about 6 to 7:30 having tea out for Fathers' Day. It was a very nice day yesterday, and a lot of people would of been out till at least 8.

I like this idea too, much better than messing them around the schedules, and it would be an opportunity to refresh them. Perhaps they could arrange for the casts contracts to be renewed at this time too, that would keep everyone on their toes.

But as you say it won't happen, even if it did the broadcasters would probably fill any spare time with repeats rather than try out new ideas.

I really like this idea. Didnt they used to do that with Emmerdale?

Unsurprisingly the soaps are low. I didnt know either of them were on till I logged on this morning. EE is doing well out of its usual slot, 7.2m is good for a Sunday considering it got 5.6m when it last aired on Sudnay and that was in March.
