Incidentally, Broadcast has yesterday's football coverage average as 6.8m. But it definitely got 6.6m, so it must be a typo from them.

Looks like it was affected by the football (again) and with Alex, combined with C4+1 it peaked at 5.4m- the same as launch. C4 had an average of 3.5m, C4+1 had 0.8m.

Although it probably won't last, there is hope that last night was a turning point.”

was a good show last night, hopefully it'll retain some of the audience

Not a good night for BBC1 after EastEnders. Good evening for ITV1 and Channel 4!”

interesting to see the sunday night project get so many viewers for a repeat, suppose it makes Sundays slightly disappointing figure a bit better

It seems to be a change of strategy from last summer. The 9pm weeknight slots in July and August 2007 were filled with Waking the Dead repeats (sometimes rating under 3m), a six-part medical documentary about how the body copes with trauma at various stages of life, and a short series about extreme pursuits (rockclimbing etc.)

Just on C4, it got 3.5m (15%). C4+1 really helped the figure out, getting C4+1's highest audience ever.

Ah OK. So it didn't beat BBC1 at 9pm after all.

Still a good figure though.

EDIT: Thanks, by the way, rzt.

if

Who Has Remembered What Not To Wear gets such a low rating, what do the new shows get?

Not much more than last night's offering, to be honest.

Last night's programme was the last of the two programmes held back from last Autumn's series.

Hopefully, they won't make another series. It's an awful programme, and completely wrong for primetime BBC One.

Great ratings for BB with the help of C4+1 but I do wonder whether it would of got higher ratings had Alex been evicted Today.

Channel 4+1 seems to have benefited Channel 4 and I wonder why none of the other terrestrial channels have considered launching one.

Because BBC1 & ITV1 are regional channels and you would have 15 ITV1+1's. Much as I love ITV1, you can have too much of a good thing!

It would be prohibitively expensive for BBC One, Two and ITV1.

I guess that means that only Five would be able to launch a +1 channel although they have a lot of US imports which could prove tricky but I could see it happening in the near future.

Channel 4 has regional advertising.

Anyone know what happens with it on Freeview? On Freeview you can do regional programming and networks, so is there a dedicated Channel 4+1 feed for Scotland, for example?

The advertisers would care. A lot!

hmmm, we should all watch a show on 4 then watch it on +1 and see if the adverts are the same -_-

In regard to summer programming this year, it is nice to see some new shows rather than endless repeats although I admit there were good shows last year like Mountain and the Ultimate Outdoors programmes.

I've just seen BBC1's schedule for the beginning of July and it's one of the best I've seen in a while. Programmes which interest me are:

-Criminal Justice (5 part thriller running through from Mon-Fri at 9pm)
-Celebrity Masterchef
-The Visit
-Eastenders

I think it's good BBC1 are launching some decent programming for the Summer-I think maybe they decided to launch some big hitters in the Summer , because they saw ITV's Summer advert and saw how poor it is. Marco's Great British Feast and Harley Street look good, but apart from that it's looking pretty poor and not really worthy an advert to be honest.

It also seems that BBC1 have moved Panorama to 7:30pm-not sure if this is permanent or not.

It's not just BBC One and ITV1, Channel 4 has the Disarming Britain season which I think will be as successful as the Big Food Fight season back in January while Five has Banged Up, Superstars, Terror in Paradise and the new Hotel Inspector.

While the summer programming is quite decent this year, I am more looking to the autumn and winter shows.

I'm not sure we can be absolutely sure of that. What we don't know is what C4 would have got if the +1 channel wasn't available. Also, from the advertising rate point of view, does C4 get more money from an ad shown across two channels or if the ad was shown on a channel getting the combined audience?

Criminal Justice - seems good (its block schedule in 1 week - interesting experiment
Celebrity Masterchef - if this was on ITV, they would get slated for using celebrities.
The Visit - whats that?
Eastenders - isn';t this the same show as the rest of the year, or do they all go to the seaside & moan?

Seriously though if the weather picks up again ratings will plummet regardless of whats on. Its crazy to show their biggest shows in July.

ITV have little interest in putting out good shows this summer. Ad revenue is pretty flat and it wont pay to spend big ££'s on programmes.

If Disney pay for 10m views of an advert for Disneyland Paris, as a rather simple example, then the views of Channel 4+1 will of course count.

That is the whole reason it is there, to bolster the number of people watching a Channel 4 programme so they can set higher rates of advertising, or at least stem any decline in viewing.

1 view on Channel 4 = 1 view on Channel 4+1. It wouldn't make much difference to Channel 4, its all the same money.

I think another reason to BBC1 and ITV1 not doing them is not just because of regions but because of viewing figures. When things get heated later in the year with Strictly Come Dancing v The X Factor, one of the channels (most likely ITV1) would suffer because people would tune into BBC1 for Strictly Come Dancing instead as people would get into the mentality that they can watch it in an hour. And when both shows are more than an hour long, by watching it on a timeshift channel some of it would still be missed which would drag the overall average down, and as a consequence they would get less money. Its likely that figures could go from around 8m to about 6-7m. Not worded perfectly but I hope you can see what I'm getting at.

With regards to regions, there would be no reason why they couldn't just show a blank screen whilst regional programming is on, or just play BBC1/ITV1 London across the country- I assume there would be no legal obligation to put regional programming out on 'BBC1+1' or 'ITV1+1'.
