rzt, I think I should tell you now (just so you don't get the wrong idea) that I don't watch programmes about Lindsey Lohan, weird films, Teleshopping, Jails or more importantly American Brothels. Most of my ratings requests are purely to see how the networks are performing in general. Just thought I'd clarify that

Absolutley gutted, if ever a show deserved ratings that was it. It was gripping, never mind your BGT's and your Strictly's last nights BB proved its the original king of reality TV.


Its rather ammusing the way everytime ITV doesent perform or in this case looks as if it wont perform we get the 'oh ITV dont care'. Puhleaase why would ITV bother? They could easily shunt a repeat there.

Agreed. Last nights episode was BB at its best and deserved at least 5.0m+ IMO.

How come the Nelson Mandela concert got a bigger share than BB even though it got the same rating at the same time? Is it because the concert was longer than BB's first show?

BB's ratings is so unjust. It was brilliant last night, where have all the viewers from the past series gone? Maybe tonight after all the talk, ratings will rise?

Nelson Mandella concert was brilliant but needed a different host. Phil and Fearne Cotton just speaks 'trashy TV'. Instead, it should have been Jonathan Ross or a big American star. It would've got a bigger audience on a Sunday/Wednesday night. I am always out on a Friday night, as are most youngsters.

TBH, I didn't like the way they laid it out, with some recorded and some live etc.

If they were gonna do that, why didn't they just thrown it all on "recorded" on ITV1 tonight for like three/four hours?

I thought that was strange aswell-either show it all live or all recorded. It's not like ITV have/had anything big on tonight/yesterday night to make way for it.

From the bits I saw of it I thought it was poorly laid out and not well presented. It could have been a lot better.

I doubt that, they've already commissioned future series and the ratings are still good for Channel4. BB often puts them in front of ITV but it never manages to beat the Ten O' Clock News on BBC1. The ratings are just really rubbish compared to past series. I'm just wondering what has happened to those viewers over the years. 10 million people watched Kate Lawler win so 10 million people were interested in the show way back when. It's still the same show, same premise. I just don't get why people have lost interest. This series has been one of the betters ones so far.

The BB Producer has been answering questions on the C4 website on a few occassions. Most people seem to be asking for more gameplay elements which will make them work for their right to stay in the house. All the producer keeps saying is things are planned. If things are planned, why not start them now? The series could do with a boost in ratings now, not 7 weeks down the line or so.

Also, to maximise this night, ITV should have had a Nelson Mandella documentary on Wednesday about his life's work [instead of 'Real Crime']. Then a show on Thursday 'Special Assignment: South Africa Now & Then', and to show how Mandella changed South Africa leading neatly onto Friday.

I agree. And to go right in with your schedule, Corrie and Emmerdale can get moved to Sunday in place of Agatha Christie's Marple at 6:00pm, so it could of been:

19:00 - Coronation Street
19:30 - The Royal
20:30 - Coronation Street
21:00 - Taggart

I just didn't think Nelson Mandella is really that big a draw for viewers in the way Diana is.

BB will be going nowhere- its very profitable for the cost it is to produce compared to the amount of people that watch by Channel 4 standards. Don't forget 3.8m is very good for Channel 4. Even ITV have struggled to get that in most 9pm slots this year.

If someone like me, a normal human being with no talent for much, can organise an ITV schedule like this with D.M.N expanding on this, why can't well paid workers at the biggest commercial network in the UK do it???

I get mythed. I mean, I know the soaps do as well on Sunday's, but it's because ITV don't advertise it and sometimes the slots are wrong. I'd advertise the WHOLE SUNDAY NIGHT SCHEDULE in one advert - and take more risks with it, though still I don't think ITV would want to risk their schedule with the football final being broadcast.

I think it is a matter of expectations & how much bang they want to get for the investment they make.

BGT cost upwards of £1m a show, Who Dares Sings will be a fraction of that (£300k at a guess). So the investment isn't as big & likewise the ratings expectations aren't as great.

Sure they want it to do well, but unless they have a sleeper hit, which are few and far between, then realistically they aren;t going to get more than somewhere around 4m viewers in that slot in mid-summer.

I'd probably try The Royal out between 6.30-7.30, then Emmerdale 7.30-8.00 and Coronation Street 8.00-9.00. Yes, it'd hit The Royal's figures a bit, but Emmerdale and Coronation Street together would have created a competitive schedule against the football. Something I don't think The Royal/Taggart will achieve. I can understand why ITV didn't want the football final tomorrow, but their scheduling has a lot to be desired. As does next week's 9pm slot.

However, I think the Mandela concert would have achieved nearer the 5m mark on BBC1, than the 3.8m it achieved on ITV1. I think a lot of people lack faith in ITV programming ATM, unless it's established (eg. The soaps) or stars Ant and Dec.

Emmerdale at 6.30pm? Plus the 2nd Corrie would be very low due to the Euro 2008 final. I don't think this schedule would work any better than the one they've got

I think this too, 8 out of 10 cats just breaks the show up too much. And more viewers would have stuck with (IMO) the best episode of the series so far for another 30mins had it been shown at 10pm and not 10:30.

Surely they should have held off on that show for a while? They already have Sunday Night Project, Big Brother Eviction and 8 Out of 10 Cats for entertainment programming.

How long does Jonathan Ross have left? Because BB desperately needs to be made into one show on a Friday night from 9pm to 10.30pm.


I think they are trying to move it away from the soaps. But I can't see it doing well at 6pm nor do I understand the need for Friends repeats.

BBLB is doing terribly and has struggled since moving to E4 in 2006. Then it had 500k-600k a night. BB8 came along and it got rather inconsistent, but could manage about 400k on average each week.

But it is now down to about 200k a night and the subject of growing critcism. Meanwhile, Big Mouth which got 700,000 in the days of Russell Brand is down to 200,000-300,000 a night immediately after BB. Even after Alex was evicted, it didn't hit 600,000.

I can see a major overhaul of the spin-offs next year.

The only hope is that they are going to re-launch mid series with the move and replace the existing presenters. Otherwise, I agree, this is pointless.

Yes that seems fairly logical, but for Zoe to say ITV 'arent bothered' by its performance isnt true. It seems alot of work on ITV's part to produce a show that over a 5 week run which will cost £1 million and upwards and then for its ratings to be dismissed.


It certainly didnt help that the concert was free so anybody who really wanted to watch it could have just gone. Also PS depicts ITV, somebody external should have been baught in and didnt help all the mics had 'ITV' slapped across them a picture of Nelson would have been much more appropriate.
