Its moving to BBC2, shame cos it could of got really big ratings but i guess its just cos of the Regional News not being able to be on 2. Hopefully it'll move back to 1 at 7, will probably depend on the state of the match.

Nice to see the healthy figures for the football. Its been a great tournament and with those kind of figures for the final, its clear that the public really embraced it.

The BBC and ITV clearly adopting very different strategies for the Summer. While ITV are digging in and airing repeats and odd one-offs, the BBC are taking a big risk with some big hitters. Clearly they must have enough series held back to be able to do that, because I'm sure they wouldn't go airing New Tricks in the summer and have a load of repeats filling those slots in the Autumn...would they?!

Yes. With the match certain to go well beyond 7pm, this looks like the sensible option.

If it had started at say 4.45pm it wouldn't have been an option. But they should only be around the end of the 2nd set at 7pm. So there will be a good chunk of the match and most likely the most exciting part of the match after 7pm.

They may also think that what could turn out to be over 2 hours of tennis on BBC1 from 6pm onwards would be too much.

Why cant they do regional variations on BBC2 in England anymore?

Cost-cutting?

They never have been able to on digital - they have national variations but the whole of England would get BBC London News. Don't know if its cost, technical limitations or what really. A few years ago if Henman was in a big match they used to say 'digital viewers retune to analogue' but with the vast majority now watching with digital i suppose they think that wouldn't be acceptabe.

Arghh. Please don't place 30 Rock with Moving Wallpaper and Rock Rivals. 30 Rock is just a hard show to sell. It's a US import, on five and doesn't have any major stars to sell it. The other two are just crap.

What has BBC1 got in Autumn?

Do we know of anything for sure?

Merlin, Strictly Come Dancing, Waterloo Road...

The Autumn 2007 press pack was released on the 7th July. It shouldn't be long for the 08 press pack.

What do we think of News at Ten on ITV1? I'm beginning to think it's a lost cause, and they could invest in better programming for 10pm to 11pm and air the News at 11pm.

They could possibly get away with moving bulletins to air one every night at 8pm then nothing for the rest of the night, and it would at least stop the competition with the BBC which is clearly failing. The schedule could go a bit like this nightly:

5.00pm News at Five
5.30pm Regional News
6.00pm Golden Balls
7.00pm Soap: Emmerdale
7.30pm Soap: Coronation Street / Regional
8.00pm News at Eight

Then a mix of British drama and documentaries in the 9pm slot, and US drama and ITV2 premieres like Secret Diary of a Call Girl in the 10pm slot.

Just an idea, it's tough working out what to do with ITV really. Its share price is at an all time low today. I think they need to tear the schedule up, revamp the channel's branding and sort out consistency i.e. stop airing a series of Heartbeat in blocks of 3 episodes over 6 months etc.

-Many hard to follow dramas (e.g the recent BBC1 Sunday night drama-can't remember the name)
-Many teen orientated shows (exceptions including Skins)
-A lot of live music (a lot of stuff on ITV and 4 fails to set ratings alight, but obviosuly exceptions include Diana concert).

Obviously everything on the list has exceptions, but in the majority this is what the British public like/don't like and the ratings pattern usually follows this. Comedy is one of the things that can be very unpredictable.”

The autumn programmes should be announced very soon, but returning (with new episodes) series will include Silent Witness (12 hours), Spooks (10 hours), HIGNFY (9 half-hours), Not Going Out (8 half-hours), The Green Green Grass (7 half-hours), After You've Gone (8 half-hours), Outtake TV, Strictly Come Dancing (14 weeks), Casualty, Antiques Roadshow, Waterloo Road (20 hours [may be delayed until 2009]) Friday Night With Jonathan Ross, Armstrong and Miller, Omid Djalili.

Other new shows: Parents of the Band (sitcom, 6 half-hours), The Old Guys (sitcom, 6 half-hours), The Life of Riley (sitcom, 6 half-hours), Sunshine (comedy drama, 3 hours), Survivors (drama), Merlin (drama, 13 parts), Little Dorrit (drama), Tess of the D'Urbervilles (drama)

To be honest, I don't think they'll be able to fit them all in before Christmas.

To a certain extent they tried that already in January. The problem with heralding a new era is that if it doesnt come off then its very difficult to have another "new era" without losing face.
ITV have been dominant on Sundays for 15 years or more using Heartbeat as a pivot and the soaps also. I think its become noticeable in the last year that the soaps and long running dramas cannot rely simply on loyalty to maintain high figures-they have got to maintain quality as well.
The BBC has attacked Sunday nights with altered scheduling and Top Gear on BBC2 which has upset ITV's apple cart a bit. It just goes to prove that if you find something appealing viewers will make the switch from even the most popular programming and once the habit is broken not everyone comes back.

Not surprised given the state of the match. They probably would of moved it if it was closer and Murray was doing better. As it is it looks like hes going out.

They would never move a consistent 'Evening News' which regularly pulls in a good audience.

I would have thought:-

5:00pm Regional News
5:30pm Golden Balls
6:30pm ITV Evening News
____________________
10:00pm Pushing Daisies / Dexter / Piers Morgan / etc.
11:00pm The Late News
-12:00am

Surely ITV could work it out with Ofcom if they pledged to make their news programme an hour long with a look at the morning papers and a delve into business & sport.

Murray isn't on the same level of what Henman was back in 2001-2003, so I'm not surprised he was moved to BBC2. He doesn't warrant a primetime BBC1 4th round match. Once he reaches a semi final, then perhaps he deserves to be given the opportunity on later occasions.

Well they gave it to him on Saturday for a third round match - it finished quite early in the end but they dropped the Weakest Link for it and would of continued with the match if it had gone on. I think it was just the Regional News issue and then they looked at how the game was going and decided to keep it on BBC2. If the match was going better than im sure it would of peaked at 8m or so on 1.

News at Ten is a loss leader. The ratings aren't great but it's better for ITV's image showing that and get 2m viewers than showing Holly and Fearne Go Dating and getting the same rating

I doubt it will be moved any time soon. It's like Channel 4 News, a good product, but one not many people watch.

It's the same with Channel 4, they could easilly drop the news and show an extra Big Brother, but it wouldn't help the channel's image

True, they extended it on Saturday. But it was in replacement of only the Weakest Link and that other comedy show (whch was shown later). Both of those shows are pretty disposable if you know what I mean.

You're right about the Regional News thing. But suppose if it was a 28 year old Henman playing, the game would have been extended in favour of Regional News. But Andy Murray at this stage of his career does not warrant an extension, in my opinion.

Also, with Criminal Justice starting today for a whole week, I don't think the BBC would have wanted to start badly (due to a delayed start).

Do we think Criminal Minds is going to do well - it does not seem to have much opposition tonight - maybe 5m?
