“It does make me wonder- why don't Wimbledon get some floodlights on Centre Court/Court 1 and do evening sessions. Show them on BBC2, and if a situation like yesterday arsies, show it on BBC1. It would get pretty big audiences. Most of the other slams have evening sessions. The final would do great starting at 6/7pm on BBC1. But I suppose it's probably to do with tradition and history.”

the same reason they dont offer the right to Sky, or let players wear anything other than white or play games on the middle Sunday.

ITV? No surprises about it's own performance there. But surprising that it still does about the same as FIVE and better than E4.

CH5, another channel I see as trying to draw in the 16-34 crowd, also fails spectacularly.

Now E4 who I'd say is designed to appeal purely to the 16-34 crowd...pitiful.

I think these stats might imply that the 16-34 crowd simply want to watch good television, like any other demographic, and that all attempts to patronise them by telling them that certain shows are just for them are rejected.

I don't know if anybody watched it but there was a very interesting documentary on BBC4 the other night about television's relationship with teenagers and young people's attitudes to 'yoof' TV. It did seem that when TV programmers try too hard to directly appeal to them then they feel patronised and reject it because they can all too easily spot when TV people are trying to make out that they are 'down with the kids'.

By the way, do you have the 16-34 shares for BBC3?
Because nowadays that channel appears to be trying to emulate E4 and directly target 16-34 viewers.”

BBC3 is supposed to directly target 16-34s, so thats why they are doing that.

And were you joking when you said 3% was bad for E4? Because I thought that was excellent.

I don't think you can really lump a 16yo and 33yo together. It's probably the upper part of the 16-34s that give BBC1 such a good share.

Advertising works on generalisations.

They advertise to 16-34s, to ABC1s, etc.

So, in turn, that is how ratings work.

Really good figures for the tennis.

I suppose it worked out perfectly with the disposable 'On the Fiddle?' easily dropped from the schedule, but EE, Panorama, and The One Show left in their slots.

How silly would it be to move The One Show to BBC Two?!

Criminal Justice was fantastic last night. I'm glad it did well. It's also an interesting experiment by the BBC airing it nightly for a week - I wonder how many will still be watching on Friday.

As for today, the weather here is glorious with lots of sunshine and temps in excess of 24C. But I understand only southern and eastern parts of England are enjoying this weather, with gloomy weather lingering in the west, so I'm not sure if it will affect the ratings too much.

Apparently they'd call it 'The Two Show'.

I'm glad the tennis did well. It was better drama than the programme it caused to run late for me

I'm surprised the second Coronation Street clung on so well to almost all of it's viewers. It's not often Corrie or EE is up against a show which outrates them, but the second Corrie somehow didn't suffer at all really.

At the same time Granada announced a joint deal with a US cable company to remake Cracker as an ongoing series (again).

Granada will retain all rights other than those for the US. So it is bound to appear on ITV here next year.

Yes. It's never really came close before.

Wow-I think it's amazing that on a hot day both Corrie & Wimbledon can pull in good audiences -8.6m and 7.4m at the same time is excellent.

As is Criminal Justice, NaT and BB all getting excellent figures in the 10pm slot. It just shows if you put something on that's good in the Summer then people will watch. New Tricks will be interesting...

I expect Wimbledon will easily take a place in the top 10 programmes this year. Also does anyone think the inflation was because of many people waiting for Criminal Justice, hence the 2 audiences combining?

I remember it coming 0.2m away with NaT getting 2.2m while BB getting 2.4m so yeah, they have come close. Remember, BB's audience INCLUDES the +1.

When was that?

I dont remember BB getting 2.4m on a Monday - Thursday.

I know it includes the +1 - but +1 viewers still count for advertisers.

While I think it was great ratings for the tennis, I have a feeling it will be unlikely to be topped this year unless Andy Murray get into the Final.

Sport is one of the few TV highlights that achieve great ratings but I wonder how much that depends what channel it is on. For example, if The Champions League Final had been on Five, would it have got 11.1m? Probably not.

Yeah, I'm not trying to find excuses for the good rating. It's good that other sports apart from football can bring in huge ratings and as you say sporting events attract huge ratings.

He could use his new catchphrase on the housemates. He could have them beaten if they vote for him.

He's perfect housemate material. I hope he's on the shortlist. Nominations would be... interesting to say the least.

I agree, it was a great start and I think it suits being stripped across the week, but I do wonder if the BBC have chosen the best week to broadcast it?

Yes, but as it's shown an hour later, it doesn't beat News at Ten does it?

2.4 million viewers were watching Big Brother at 10pm.

2.2 million viewers were watching News at Ten at 10pm.

So they were close.

I think the million who watched after make it an unfair advantage.
