I might watch Clunes show but a "cop dogs with cameras" sniffing suspects crotches doesn't appeal to me.”

It's not his show-unless he's jumping over fences with the dogs and acting like a policeman Though it does seem strange there is two shows about dogs, presumably Clunes show will start straight after this, though surely it would be better to start it now whilst Doc Martin is on

Some good solid ratings last night and for the first time in ages Corrie had a strong lead over EE and Emmerdale's share was back up!

MQOS seems to have dropped 1 million viewers slowly throughout it's run. Putting one of BBC2's biggest shows (Dragons Den) up against New Tricks next week is more stupid scheduling probably denting both.

What about Trinny & Susannah? (Or do ITV hope viewers forgot about their show promised for the Summer schedule)

Where is it being slotted?

Can't find anything on DigiGuide but I'm guessing Wednesday 30th at 9pm - taking Marco's Great British Feast slot - which ends its run next week.

I can't see Dragons Den and New Tricks having much, if any, impact on each other. The last series of Dragons Den aired against Doc Martin (which I would imagine has a nearly identical audience split to New Tricks) and neither show was affected.

Exactly. What's the solution? Only air complete and utter rubbish and/or repeats on BBC1 when BBC2 is showing something decent and vice versa?

Fair play to the BBC for putting two decent watches on at the same time and offering a bit of choice. I've never watched New Tricks and am not about to start watching now, whereas I love Dragons Den, so I think there is room for both to air alongside one another and sufficient viewer appetite for both shows to achieve highly respectable viewing figures and give BBC1 and BBC2 combined a far higher rating than the 3 commercial networks put together.

A good night for BBC3, then as their beauty season continues successfully and EE puts in another solid shift.

This is where BBC3 and E4 get an upper hand on ITV2 because they have repeats or first runs of their soaps running to big audiences. Have ITV2 ever tried a primetime Corrie repeat?

That said, it's quite impressive that ITV2 does so well without having that kind of consistent performer. Their new drama commission seems very "gritty". It's almost like they are trying to go down the HBO route with their dramas, airing the kind of stuff that is too controversial for mainstream terrestrial.

It will be interesting to see if they try to attach a big name like Billie Piper to the latest project.

Trinity, the new ITV2 stars Charles Dance and Claire Skinner and while the premise sounds interesting, I doubt it will be as big as Secret Diary of a Call Girl which I suspect many people tuned in to see if Billie Piper got her kit off

While it is good that digital channels like ITV2, ITV3, Sky One and E4 are commissioning original drama, the same can't really be said for BBC Two, Channel 4 and Five who tend to air one-offs than series with exceptions.

I think filmwise, I can see ITV repeating the Polar Express again either on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. Films like Casino Royale, Revenge of the Sith, Harry Potter and the GOF and King Kong will more than likely premiere in Late November/Early December although CR could debut round the time of Quantum of Solace to boost interest.

BBC Two, Channel 4 and Five don't really get involved with Christmas aside from a few films classic or premiere and some Christmas related stuff like Heston Blumenthal's Perfect Christmas and Nigella's Christmas Kitchen.”

Well Heston has just signed a deal with Channel 4 so he could be on this christmas. BBC2 will have something half decent potentially this Christmas, a Shooting Stars special.

From Media Guardian:

Quote:
“Shooting Stars back for one-off

BBC2 has confirmed that comedy gameshow Shooting Stars is to return for a Christmas special - complete with hosts Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer and Matt Lucas's romper suit-clad George Dawes.

A festive "best of" compilation special has also been ordered, featuring behind the scenes gossip and out-takes.

The two shows, commissioned by BBC2 controller Roly Keating to air this Christmas, will mark the 15th anniversary of the madcap quiz - which features two celebrity panels undertaking odd games - hitting British screens.

Wow-I didn't expect that much for the dog doc. If it carries on with ratings like that it must be one of ITV's most successful Tuesday 8pm shows for while, as nothing seems to work in it.

I suspected the dogs would rate well. People like dogs and they like docs about coppers. A doc about Doggy Coppers was bound to be a hit!
