That's not good for EE is it? It's rare that Emmerdale's hour-long average is higher than EastEnders' 30 minute one. I suppose the one million from the repeat is pretty decent though.

Emmerdale the highest of the day, has that happened before?

Despite coming 2nd in most of its slots I think ITV had a good day bringing in the top show of the day, a new series only 0.7m behind usual ratings banker Holby City and NaT up from Monday considering the poor lead in. Just a shame Doc Martin didn't perform that well.

Good night for FIVE aswell coming 4th for many slots.

Not too good, but it's to be expected with the hot weather in the South East yesterday.

A mixed night all round with Bonekickers losing more than I expected and Send in the Dogs doing better than expected.

I wonder whether ITV should consider airing the dramas they have held back for the autumn like Lost in Austen or the two hour dramas like Marple and Poirot as Doc Martin clearly isn't doing that well.

Dose anyone have any ratings for Private Practise last night on Living?

16-07-2008
So The Doc Who Finale is the most watched with over 10 Mill. Up 2 million on last weeks. The BBC 3 Repeat and Confidential show also tops the multichannel chart with over a Mill. The new midsomer gets of to a good start at 11. Criminal Justice also did quite well over its week with a consistent figure

On a Tuesday, probably many a time. It only just lost out to EastEnders by 0.1% share both pulling in 5.5 million viewers, which Emmerdale will be happy with.

I'd say - a solid night for ITV - just probably could do with more for Doc Martin and News at Ten.

Good ratings for BB - it seems to do better in the 10PM slot. Dunno why Channel 4 don't have it at ten all the time apart from fridays of course

I don't know why ITV have decided to show the second series of Doc Martin again tbh. I think they were hoping for similar success to what BBC1 had with New Tricks when they had it on every Friday for God knows how long. That said, when New Tricks was being shown against MW/EB, the latter were only getting about 2m, whereas the current opposition to Doc Martin is getting 5-6m.

I think you're right, as Doc Martin was getting around 4m before Bonekickers started.

Is Lost In Austen going to be aired any time soon as it was due in March? Also, is it a weekday show or a Sunday show?

Awesome for DW. Series 4 officially averaged 8.05m- the highest series average since its revival in 2005.

I believe Lost in Austen is to air in September though I don't know what day it will air but it seems more like a Sunday show to me than a weekday show.

Does anyone know if ITV's new adaptation of Wuthering Heights is to air this autumn or in 2009?

Looking at the BARB officials does anyone know why the Mamma Mia documentary is listed as The South Bank Show? Was it a South Bank show special or have BARB made a mistake?

I've noticed they do make a few mistakes like still calling Tonight, Tonight With Trevor McDonald and call normal programmes films when they are not. Infact it's listed in FIVE's officials FILM:Jack The Ripper when it was just a documentary.

Though BARB do make mistake, the Mamma Mia documentary was originally going to be part of the South Bank Show strand but I guess ITV thought it was accessible enough for prime time and moved to 9pm.

There have been a few South Bank Show programmes which I think would of been suitable for 9pm like The Monty Python/Spamalot documentary and the Tim Burton documentary.

BTW Zoe, you reached your 3000th post!

Oh.My.God.

I didn't even realise I had made 3000 posts-thanks for telling me-I can't believe it!

After the success of the Mamma Mia doc then, I think ITV should move some other South Bank show docs to primetime.

I was mid '07 and me neither. This is one of the only threads I post in mind you - and you haven't posted as regularly as me. I think I'm one of the most active in this thread.

As for last years ratings kindly given to us by garyessex, thanks for that, it shows that EastEnders was doing very well and Coronation Street, they look like they've both dropped around a million this year, but lets be honest, the storylines have been quite dour and 2008 won't be remembered for brilliant soap storylines.

Emmerdale has also seen its audience fall, which is bad news for ITV. Though it is starting to improve, as shown in the last week, as it reached lows of 4 million a couple of Tuesdays back. I think, again the Top 5, are worse off and their programming, especially factual, can range from around 2m-5m, which means it can be a risky business in commissioning.

However, dramas seem to be excelling on BBC1, just not ITV1.
