No i don't think so. If you look at the soaps, there audiences have stabilised over the last couple of years.
New tricks, doctor who, doctor martin, x factor, strictly come dancing, dancing on ice, still get really good audiences.
I could be wrong, but i think most of the damage was done around 2002-5.

The only day of the year which has seen growth has been Saturday night, thanks to X Factor and Strictly, which weren't expected to bring in huge audience when shown at the same time as each other.
The Barb system might have effected the low ratings, because they were more accurate, so the figures just posted must have way off of what it actually was.

It was a sitcom with Richard O'Sullivan, about a man and his daughter. I think it began in 1984. I remember seeing a few of the early episodes. I didn't realise it was still going in 1987, though!

I just get the feeling that this is the wrong time of year for Last Choir Standing. It seems like a good format (probably the wrong presenters), and I think it would work better in the January - March slot. BBC1 have the opportunity to cash in on the Saturday slot in this period, with Dancing On Ice having been moved to Sundays.

It should be noted that they counted the omnibus edition for soaps in ratings in those days.
Those ratings for Neighbours are absolutely astonishing
Neighbours and Home & Away did SO well back then, yet they slumped so fast when the millenium started. I think BBc and ITV didn't really promote it enough, and it wasn't much of a priority.

Thanks Pizza! Can I ask, what newspapers you got those ratings from? Also, are they overnights or officials?
I must say, the Aussie soaps used to rate unbelievably well only just 14 years ago. Over 9 million for Neighbours and Home and Away! Now, both shows are lucky to get 3 million (including repeats and omnibuses).
Also, the list makes me realise how amazing the Britain's Got Talent results did. With 13.88m viewers, the BGT Final would have got into the top 5 for that week 14 years ago. I'm certain that if it had been shows 20 years ago, it would have got nearly, if not over, 20 million viewers.
In fact, my pre-1995 ratings converter suggests that the BGT Final would have got about 18.2 million viewers (73%). Very rough estimation of course.

I think these were taken from Teletext, rzt. I've a scrapbook somewhere with even older ratings from various newspapers such as The Sun/Star/Mail/Sunday Times, so I will dig that out in a few days.
They were official ratings. I think it was very difficult to lay hands on overnight ratings in those days, but the officials were all over the papers and magazines because it was inexpensive to reproduce the data in those days, unlike now.

I'm always fascinated by old ratings, because it shows me the extent at which the ratings have declined in the last few years. Also it surprises me at how high some shows used to rate (e.g. Question of Sport)!
I think in 14 years time, the ratings decline won't be as big as the last 14 years. The growth of multichannel tv has slowed down in the last year I think, and BBC1 and ITV1 will always dominate I reckon.
My predictions for Jan 2022 would be: Corrie- 8m, EE- 7m, Emmerdale- 5m, BBC News at Ten- 3.5m.
However I could be way wrong here! It also assumes that these shows will air in 2022. You never know!

And I think the biggest rated event of the year will be the death of King Charles with 13m.
