Typical ITV - think they've pulled off a major coup by landing the McCanns, and then puff it all up into a boring 2 hour documentary that hardly anyone would manage to sit through. They should have done 30-60 mins tops. Instead they flogged it to death.
Presumably well under 3m were watching by the second hour?”
I would have much preferred a 3 part documentary. Like the relatively successful Sandbanks (with Piers Morgan), the McCanns could have been in a hard hitting documentary which was shorter and more digestible. The way it was broadcast in a 2 hour slot was disgusting.
ITV should be really thinking about scheduling. This week it should have been:-
Monday
7:00pm Emmerdale
7:30pm Coronation Street
8:00pm The Tonight Programme
8:30pm Coronation Street
9:00pm The Bill (losing an episode next week due to Soap Awards, plus this could be the brilliant terrorist episode which is actually verrrry good)
Tuesday
7:00pm Emmerdale
7:30pm Champions League Live
10:00pm News at Ten
10:30pm The McCanns: Campaign for Change
Wednesday
7:00pm Emmerdale
7:30pm Coronation Street
8:00pm The Bill (lead on story from massive Sunday episode)
9:00pm Taggart (instead of Thursday, works well after The Bill as well)
10:00pm News at Ten
10:30pm The McCanns: Campaign for Change
Thursday
7:00pm Emmerdale
7:30pm UEFA Cup Live (a risk but it is the semis with Rangers in it. A nice bit of variety, probably would have earned 4 million)
10:00pm News at Ten
10:30pm The McCanns: Campaign for Change
Friday
7:00pm Emmerdale
7:30pm Coronation Street
8:00pm The Tonight Programme
8:30pm Coronation Street
9:00pm Benidorm
9:30pm Headcases (new slot)
10:00pm TV's Funniest Music Moments (it's better than showing it on Sunday evenings!)
11:00pm Gladiator Classics (People might prefer this to the new one, a bit of nostalgia)
Saturday
6:00pm All Star Mr & Mrs (much cosier slot for the show)
7:00pm Britain's Got Talent (a risk which will pay off)
8:00pm Pushing Daisies (a new, more comfortable slot looking at the family audience)
9:00pm An Audience with Neil Diamond (nice one-off show)
10:00pm The Championship (big risk well worth taking)
Sunday
6:00pm Beat The Star
7:00pm Heartbeat (back at last to finish the series in a 7pm slot)
8:00pm Teenage Kicks (brave move for ITV but one which which could cause a surprise
8:30pm Coronation Street Family Album (better place to show this 'family album' which has to be shown soon)
9:00pm Flood
Sorry about the fantasy schedule but come on, the schedule would look so much nicer like this!
