Can anyone remember the ratings Desperate Housewives was originally getting for the previous seasons? How much has the audience fallen by, if at all? For some reason I seem to remember it had something close to or just above 4 million in Season 1, but I could be mistaken.

Anything for Neighbours on Five so as we can compare against those BBC and ITV daytime figures?
And Desperate Housewives is a good bit down on it's early days but about the same (perhaps a touch higher) than last year.

The peak is probably around 7.30/8.00. It'd be interesting to see 15 min splits for GMTV and Breakfast. I can't imagine many people tuning in at 6am, yet the shares for each are probably 40%+
Massive episode of The Bill tonight which has received plenty of promotion by ITV. Should be the highest rated episode for a while I would think.
I've predicted 5.4m on the ratings prediction game, but I wouldn't be surprised if it surpassed that.

Wow thats loads. So its dropped almost half of its audience. Its still one of the most successful USTV imports, however, and I think Channel 4 would definitely want to hold onto it.

If they can't afford it who else can? I doubt it would get higher ratings elsewhere. If it went to someone like Sky it would be even lower. If the value of something has gone down won't they just buy the next series at a lower price?

I bet ITV would be interested in it. It might do well in a 10.35pm slot on the main channel with lots of repeat showings on ITV2, I can imagine them doing that.

I think people still prefer UK shows over US shows and the amount of episodes for US seasons doesn't help. The quality of it is much higher than something like Mistresses which got around 5m.

One website has logged 150k downloads of the latest episode. Whether they monitor more than their own traffic, I don't know.

I know some people that never followed it after series 1. It's getting a bit soap-like for me this series, and less 'mystery drama' - I'd be interested to know how the male/female split has changed over the years - I'd guess it may have lost some of the male audience it did have.
As for who'd take it off Channel 4, there's one obvious choice: Sky One

im sure the Virgin media group would like to pick it up for LIVING.. i recon it could get a 1.5 million every week on there... 800 000 is allot but as long as it gets more viewers then pounds spent on it.. unlike prison break which costs skyone 500 000 an episode and gets around 300 000 viewers
I think this season has so far been weaker than last years. The unfortunate thing with DH is that it's never been consistently brilliant. It had a superb first season, dipped in the second, had a revival last year but this season has so far failed to set the world alight.
As for where it will go after this year, I agree it's very unlikely Channel 4 will shell out to keep it - especially since Buena Vista will no doubt be asking for even more. I can see either Living or Sky bidding for it. I know Sky One came very close to buying it last time along with Lost. This time though I don't know if they'd want it - it would be very out of place in their male-orientated schedule. Possibly ITV although I doubt they'd bother tbh. They bid last time but I don't believe it was ever a serious bid.
I'd place my bets on Living. It would suit them down to the ground.

I disagree. Season 4 so far is probably one of the best yet, and better than last year's IMO because it is more funnier and I think it is more compulsive. I only got into last series about nearly half way through, and enjoyed, but was darker than this year. Season 2 was crap though, compared to Season 1, which was the best. I would understand why people would not tune in again after the first series because some might have seen Desperate Housewives as a one-timer, and the next time round would be bad (which was right to an extent). However, halfing its audience within a short amount of time is very annoying though. There have been other US shows like Friends which can be less funnier but were still consistent with its audience. I think possibly downloading has had an effect.
As for who would take it - Living. Not Sky One, because, as someone else has said, it is too male-orienated.

Sky buy shows to get subscriptions.
Lost never pays for itself in advertising. It's just designed to get people to sign up for sky, and stay with sky.
Sky One, like all Sky channels, are loss making on their own.

I would have much preferred a 3 part documentary. Like the relatively successful Sandbanks (with Piers Morgan), the McCanns could have been in a hard hitting documentary which was shorter and more digestible. The way it was broadcast in a 2 hour slot was disgusting.
ITV should be really thinking about scheduling. This week it should have been:-

this season has had a lot poorer promotion, possibly due to them holding back to see when the strike ended.
In general I think Channel4's programmes are getting artificially lower ratings due to how many times Channel4 show things. You could watch Desperate Housewives on E4, E4+1, C4, C4+1, 4od, then its repeated on E4/e4+1.. the cumulative audience will still be decent, but overnight ratings will look poorer.

Indeed you are correct. It's rather rare now that i actually watch a programme when it is scheduled. I'll even watch a repeat show, or when it suits me on catch up tv. Bet lots of people do that.

Anyone know how News at Ten got on last night? I would've thought it'd be slightly higher, with Taggart as a lead in and it starting about five seconds after Taggart finished.
