it would be artificially high as stv was showing the ET on the Rangers match at 10pm. Did they record News At Ten and show it at 10.30pm?

Oh right yeah. How did the ratings for 'Taggart' work? Did they just include the Rangers match figures in that?

STV recorded News at ten and showed it at 10.45 to give time for the Rangers game. They didn't show the Baron at all last night but i think they've moved it to be shown tonight.

Surely it would have been better for ITV1 to have shown the Rangers game nationally last night. They could have scheduled The Bill and Taggart for Wednesday night, and dumped a (much) shorter version of that McCann programme in a late night slot.

Rangers would not have got above 4m nationally on ITV1, especially last nights turgid borefest.

Maybe not, but I can't imagine the match would have been far off against the hapless Holby Blue, and moving the two dramas for one week would have given ITV1 a stronger night on Wednesday.

Low audience for EastEnders, but a very good share - higher than usual. So Emmerdale has already slipped below 6 million on 1st May.

Anyone got any ideas on where ITV1 will shift Emmerdale during Euro 2008? Coronation Street will have to take priority when there's only a 7pm slot available.

Emmerdale will not be affected by Euro 2008 at all, apart from cutting a 1 hour Tuesday episode to 30 mins.

Euro 2008 will run from 7th June- 28th June. These are the days, each soap will be affected:

EastEnders
Thursday 12th June
Friday 13th June
Monday 16th June
Tuesday 17th June
Friday 20th June
Thursday 26th June (possibly- depending on what semi final BBC show)

Coronation Street
Monday 9th June
Wednesday 18th June
Wednesday 25th June (possibly- depending on what semi final ITV show)

Emmerdale
On the assumpion that coverage of the 5pm kick-offs will end at 7pm:
Tuesday 10th June- only half an hour can be shown between 7-7.30.
Everything else for Emmerdale will be the same.
-----------------------
Looks like EastEnders is the most affected. What BBC should do in my opinion regarding the EE schedule during Euro 2008 is:

Monday 9th June: 20.00-21.00
Tuesday 10th June: 19.30-20.30
Thursday 12th June: 19.30-20.30
Thursday 19th June: 19.30-20.30
Monday 23rd June: 20.00-20.30
Tuesday 24th June: 19.30-20.30*
*if BBC show the Thursday semi final. If they don't then just have a regular episode and an episode on Thursday.
Friday 27th June: 20.00-20.30

^ no minutes of EastEnders is missed with this schedule.

But you clash Monday 9th with the second Corrie.

Corrie won't be on that day because ITV will be showing football.

I was working on the assumption ITV1 would need to show 15 minutes of regional news and 15 minutes of national news after the 5pm kick-offs, but I suppose they might be able to get away with showing news at 4.15pm?

Hmm... yes, they might get away showing the news at 4.15-4.45, although I'm not 100% sure. ITV would definitely prefer to show Emmerdale at 7-7.30 than the news, that's for sure.

So basically, during the last few weeks 25% of Emmerdale's viewers have ran off and jumped in the sea? Very low IMO.

It's going to be very interesting to see the TV schedules in June!

Could the old issue of start & end times be the cause?

I caught a bit of it last night and it was incredibly dull. I'm not surprised viewers are losing interest.

Low audience for Holby Blue, is that actually better or worse than last week?

Taggart and The Invisibles seems to be pretty much tied, with the BBC1 show only 1% higher in share

I expect ITV1 will jump far ahead of BBC1 next Thursday with that James Nesbitt drama starting. I would imagine that will get at least 5.5m, with 'The Invisibles' dropping 500k or so.

Still very low, anyhow all the soaps have that problem EE finishes early on Tue and Thurs because of the ever pointless 8 O'Clock news.

I hope the producer changes on Emmerdale, because she has ruined the show! It's a strong show but needs to be given more promotion and better foundations.

I would like to see Emmerdale go from 7pm (without any hour long episodes) on weekdays.

And it should be repeated on ITV2 at 10:30pm (a great time and would get a good audience), and it would make the ITV2 schedule more digestible.

Coronation Street could be placed on ITV2 at 11:00pm on Monday, Wednesdays and Friday for mostly one hour.

Again, I think the hourly Corrie's are killing the show. There should be half an hour dosages on Monday, Wednesday, Friday (and sometimes Sunday). That is all it needs and it will result in consistent viewing figures.

The Bill was brilliant last night, absolutely brilliant!

Surely this'd be best for Corrie, respecting ITV's wish to have soap free weekends.

Mon - 19:30 to 20:00
Wed - 19:30 to 20:00
Thu - 20:00 to 21:00
Fri - 19:30 to 20:00

No, No.

I think hourly episodes of soaps are a big no-no, only on one-offs.

ITV doesn't want soaps at the weekend but I think there should be special episodes on a Sunday, viewers will get used to having the best episodes on a Sunday and shorter episodes during the week will mean more people will watch them in my opinion, as there will only be one episode a day.

One-off Sunday's episodes of Corrie (big storyline, Christmas, New Year, Easter) could go from 7:00pm-8:00pm at times, without Emmerdale having any special Sunday episodes.
