Big Brother managed 3.5m which is easily its best Wednesday show. The ratings for that have been growing quite well in the past week or so.

Over on E4, despite all of the promotion BBBM could only manage a pathetic 247,000.

How does BBLB rate without Zezi?

In that case ITV should get a good rating.

Some ratings news from Brand Republic - 4 million for Crimewatch Solved.

That's interesting-is it a Taggart repeat or not? This makes me wonder whether T&S will return at all now.

Also looking at last nights 9pm showings nothing shone out, but at least ITV1 escaped the shame of coming 4th! FIVE seemed to put in a good showing with its film repeat.

- they are moving with The Bill to Tuesdays on the 19th of Aug:

7:00pm Emmerdale: Trial by Fire
8:00pm The Bill: Game Plan (Part One)
9:00pm Trinny & Susannah Undress the Nation
10:00pm News at Ten and Weather

I thought there wasn't enough in it for a 60 minute show, but a 30 minutes slot would be too short. Maybe trimmed down to 45 minutes, it would lose some of the padding.

I suppose somebody could pick it up, but not all that likely when Dave etc can just rerun WLIIA?

except neither were poached. Ant and Dec pitched the SMTV Live idea to CiTV and it went from there. Phillip Schofield signed for This Morning as cover for John Leslie, and didn't sign an exclusive contract until a few years later.

That's really interesting actually that because of the football they are moving their Wednesday schedule to Tuesdays.

I think The Bill will suffer for the next couple of weeks being on Tuesdays and being up against EE for the first half of Thursday's episode.

”

I agree, but if the BBC were to pick it up then it might work in a 30 minute slot with no adverts, and a better choice of guests. Must be worth a try for some channel given its potential.

Where did you find that off? Sky EPG hasn't updated yet.

UK TV Guide hasn't updated it yet either: http://uk-tv-guide.com/list/ITV1+London/13+August+2008

I think the rights to the CL qualifiers are a late addition (I presume the rights are sold quite close to the game). AFIK ITV1 has 2 Wednesday matches (next week 13th+ a fortnight later 27th). Radio Times website has updated for some of the schedule changes but not all of them.

It seems as if ITV1 has its first hightlights show of an England home international on Wed 20th at 10.40pm also.

There seems to be quite a few schedule changes because of the football and many sites haven't updated. Though I've just checked RT.

Interestingly here is the Sat 16th schedules:

BBC1
6:15pm-Last Choir Standing
7:30pm-National Lottery
8:20pm-Inspector Lynley (R)
9:50pm-Last Choir Standing Results

ITV1
4:15pm-FILM:The Mummy Returns
7pm-You've Been Framed
7:30pm-The X Factor
8:30pm-WWTBAM:Corrie Special
9:30pm-FILM:The World Is Not Enough

BBC1 obviously bringing out the drama repeats to hopefully bring in audiences like the Foyles War repeats and they will probably fill the slot till Casualty gets back, but with LCS only capable of ratings in the 3 million range and the lottery up against XF BBC1 will probably be getting similar ratings to what ITV1 have been getting over the past few weeks. TBH I'm surprised LCS has any viewers left with the messing around of the results show ranging from 6pm-10pm on either Saturday OR Sunday-only filling slots where there is nothing else.

Good solid programming on ITV1 from 4:15pm-9:30pm. The Mummy Returns should perform well with the new one being released and YBF is always a good solid banker. WWTBAM Celebrity specials have been known to get around 5m, but with weak competition and XF lead in I can see it getting nearer 6m. However it's poor scheduling from 9:30pm onwards imo with a News break in the middle of the film repeat.

BBC ONE didn't have a bad Wednesday night then. I'm continually surprised how well Lost Land of the Jaguar is doing, coming just behind The Bill. What did Corrie get last night?

Good ratings for BBC One with LLOTJ and Crimewatch performing well, I wouldn't be surprised if we see more nature documentaries on weekdays in the future. House of Saddam slipped but still performed well. I'm still surprised how well Belly of the Beast did considering it been played before on both Five and Five US, must be othe Seagal Factor.

It will be interesting how Rory and Paddy's Great British Adventure does as most of the reviews I've read have been positive. Five has developed a niche for travelogues with celebrity faces firstly with Paul Merton in China and upcoming ones include Paul Merton in India and Extreme Fishing with Robson Green.

So ITV1 has an exciting slate of new and returning programming coming up in the Autumn/Winter, but the key is to schedule them appropriately.

The Prisoner - 6 part series.
I'd give this a high profile Monday 9pm slot, to air weekly, with a massive advertising campaign.

Law & Order: London - 13 part series.
This one should air as part of a new 'crime night' on Thursdays. With a retooled Police, Camera, Action / Cops with Cameras slot at 7pm, The Bill at 8pm and this at 9pm.

The Fixer - 6 part series.
This should take the Thursday night 9pm slot after Law & Order.

Collission - 5 part series.
Trailed as big event drama, this should air over 5 consecutive nights, starting on Monday 9pm and concluding on Friday.

Moving Wallpaper - 12 half-hour episodes
Airing as part of new 'Comedy Tuesdays' at 9.30pm. The night begins at 8.30pm with three shows until 10pm. I'd air Harry Hill's TV Burp at 8.30pm, Benidorm at 9pm and MW at 9.30pm. The new regional show Here & Now would go at 8pm.

I think the idea of branding nights in the week is a good one, too. So:

Tuesday = COMEDY NIGHT
Wednesday = 120 FROM 8
Thursday = CRIME NIGHT
Friday = DRAMA FROM THE HEART
Saturday = SATURDAY NIGHT ENTERTAINMENT
Sunday = CULT SUNDAYS

Monday wouldn't really have anything, just the usual double Corrie, Tonight and a drama that doesn't fit the crime, comedy or cult thing at 9pm (like The Prisoner).

Tuesday as mentioned - comedy. Shows like Harry Hill, Benidorm, Moving Wallpaper in 30 minute slots from 8.30pm.

Wednesday from 8pm would air Midsomer Murders, Marple, Poirot, Frost, Affinity and any other of the standalone 2 hour films.

Thursday as mentioned - crime. Cops with Cameras, The Bill and The Fixer from 7pm in hour slots.

Friday the big drama bankers so Emmerdale, Corrie, Wild at Heart and Doc Martin from 7-10pm.

Saturday would be much the same - live and exciting with feature Dancing on Ice, Saturday Night Takeaway, DOI Results, and Piers Morgan's Chat show.

Sunday would be cult for a younger audience and run with You've Been Framed, Primeval, The Bill, Pushing Daisies and Secret Diary of a Call Girl.

News at Ten every weeknight. Corrie cut down to four a week (Mon x2, Wed, Fri). Emmerdale cut down to four a week (Mon, Tue, Wed, Fri). Tonight cut down to one a week (Mon). Regional shows remaining at 1 a week (Tue 7.30pm). Here & Now permanently Tue 8pm.

With themed nights, they could rebrand ITV1 with special idents for the nights, like on crime night some sort of glossy heist ident featuring a big ITV1 logo or something in a glass cube and masked men - then armed police raiding it or for Sunday some edgy, fast idents. For Heart Fridays, some mushy, dramatic idents. etc etc. Then they could build loyal viewers to some or multiple nights i.e. men to the crime Thursday, older people to the Friday night warm dramas, younger people to cult Sunday, the families to Saturdays. And so on.

Of course it'd never happen but it's an idea of how ITV1 should be careful when scheduling the 2009 shows to give them the best chance possible.

You raise an interesting question - strip schedule or theme nights?

The consensus seems to be that strip schedules deliver better ratings eg. 6pm News; 7pm Soaps; 8pm Docs; 9pm Drama and that theme nights get lost in the 200 channel ether.

I think BBC are glad that Trinny and Susannah left because they seem to be losing viewers everytime they come on the screen. And didn't they have another shorter series of the show just a couple of months ago?

Some nice ideas here - I'm particularly liking your idents concept. I think you'e right in pointing out that's its not just about the shows, but the scheduling and the way each evening is assembled. ITV really needs to think about its branding, in the way that BBC and C4 do, to create a distinctive identity in the minds of audiences.
