Well that doesn't bode well for future episodes of this show.

And when Holby would go against The Bill on some Wednesdays in the past The Bill would win. Bizarre.

The first X Factor episode officially averaged 10.78m. It was the top programme of that week by 1.5m. Also it is the 6th most watched programme of the year so far.

I think Mutual Friends did really well considering it was up against the Secret Millionaire - and it beat it

Of course it was only in the last deal that home friendlies were live on terrestrial television. In a way we've gone back to the contract that ran 2001-04, when competitive games were on the BBC and Sky and friendlies were on Sky alone, and indeed there were two live FA Cup ties on terrestrial rather than three.

The difference now is that away friendlies will be live on terrestrial as well, so while it's a step down from the last contract, it's a step up from any previous deal. And I think friendlies on Setanta alone is OK, it's the competitive matches that should always be on terrestrial.

But there's no away competitve matches on terretrial tv now. I seem to remember watching away competitve matches were on the bbc between 2001-2004. So in a way, it's a step down from the previous 2 deals.

I think it really found it's pace in the last 15 mins or so, so I would recommend people to give it another go

BARB have updated this weeks figures but they have duplicated many shows.

I'm sure they'll sort it but very strange error to make.

Here's a snippet of the error-

Mutual Friends was crap. I felt like I wasted 1 hour of my life. It lacked any warmth.

ITV have got interesting new shows in the 9pm slot starting Monday:

Monday: The Children (Part 1 of 3)
Wednesday: Lost in Austen (Part 1 of 4)

I can see LiA being ratings winner, not sure about The Children with a repeat of New Tricks against it.

rzt, what do Daily Cooks Challenge get on ITV1 (15:00) compared to the programmes around it?

See this (http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/s...d.php?t=884342) for why I'm asking.

Yesterday (15.00-16.00):
BBC1: 391,000 (5%)
BBC2: 959,000 (15%)
ITV1: 1.1m (17%)
CH4: 434,000 (6%)
CH5: 332,000 (5%)

It won its slot yesterday, and I assume it's like that every normal day.

Mutual Friends was in a competative slot but it still seems on the low side. It seems gone are the days when brand new series get big ratings. It started at the beginning of the year with the new shows on ITV1 barely breaking 5m and most of those show getting much less. That trend carryed on when BBC1 started their new shows. It seems only the old favourites ie New Tricks, Doc Martin, Midsomer etc have the power to pull in the large numbers. It can't be very encouraging for tv execs.

Are these types of figures going to be the norm from now on regarding new shows and if so what figures should the stations be looking for when thinking about recommissioning new shows? Should they be looking at raw figures or consistency across a whole series?

I suppose Life on Mars/Ashes To Ashes are two recent drama series that got relatively big audiences 6-8 million - and when the latter debuted this year it had a very good share. I still don't think it would be impossible for a well-written, well- received new drama to get 7-8 million - it just needs everything being right from the plot, script, actors and time slot - having said that, that's not likely to happen anytime soon on ITV1, is it?
NorfolkBird

I'd forgotten about Life on Mars, IIRC they had very good and consistent ratings for the first series and then the Beeb shoved it on Tuesday and it lost a good 1-1.5m viewers because it clashed with the footie. Such a basic error.

It's certainly going to be an interesting time this Autumn, lots of new and returning series. I predict there won't be too many of the new shows getting big ratings, though I could be proved wrong. Maybe 4-5m will become the new 6-8m and new series will be recommissioned with figures that a couple of years ago would be deemed poor.

Yes, I think EastEnders suffers from being the meat in that sandwich.

Countdown repeats aren't a huge sucess by the look of that.
