Good ratings for Merlin though I think it would have done better had it not been up against the X Factor. It will be interesting whether the earlier start will boost or hinder its ratings.

C14E and I were referring to 2006, I believe.
There was a "bootcamp" show on Sunday last year, and there would have been plenty of room for both X Factor shows in next Saturday's schedule if ITV had wanted.
I suspect ITV like to get the "bootcamp" shows out of the way in as few weekends as possible, because those particular shows are a bit of a turn-off for X Factor fans.

Interesting perspective given all the criticism the BBC has previously received on DS, and perhaps even this thread, for scheduling SCD " too early". Remember all the people saying Robin Hood should have been on before SCD last autumn?

The schedule is finalised. Looks as though HIGNFY will be getting the 9pm slot after Harry and Paul finishes.

That's quite strange aswell as I would have thought the 2 comedies have completely different audiences. LB:USA would probably have been better launching on BBC3 to give them a nice Autumn hit.

Putting Little Britain USA on BBC One gives it a guranteed high audience and I can imagine it will attract high ratings for its first episode as there hasn't been a regular series since 2006.
Not ratings related but it looks like Five are getting a rebrand, I've seen it on billboards for Unbreakable and Paul Merton in India and there is a thread about it in the broadcasting forum and I have to say it's a good logo and and a definate improvement on the current logo.

Don't know the exact date but I'm assuming it will be the week starting 6th October as that is when Unbreakable and Paul Merton air.
I think Five are going back to their roots of being fun again as the last few years, most of their programmes have been quite upmarket and serious.

I'd be tempted to give LB the 9pm slot on BBC One, if it was my decision, and have HIGNFY at 9.30pm. I'd have given My Family the 9pm slot last spring too.

They are lucky in that FIVER and FIVE:US are now very successful with FIVER bringing in a decent % of 16-34's and increasing its overall share since its rebrand to about 0.6%. FIVE:US seem to be doing even better, even though most of their stuff is repeats achieving % above 1% sometimes and coming 2nd/3rd in the 9pm slots out of all the multichannels.

It'll be pretty good if Hole in the Wall can keep that sort of share for the whole series!
It makes me chuckle when I think of all the primetime BBC One and ITV1 dramas that couldn't get 3.3m (let alone a 25% share) in 9pm slots this year!

My hope is for more homegrown drama and entertainment which have been lacking in the last few years, I hope Minder does well as it would be a boost to more homegrown drama. Perhaps if Law and Order: UK does well maybe CSI: London will be on the cards.
Five US has been a success for them but Fiver is a little lacking in content and needs stuff that will make it stand out against ITV2 and E4. I think 90210 or a similar teen drama would be a starting point or have a comedy that can be stripped across the week like Family Guy and Friends. I would suggest South Park for a 10 or 11pm slot.

SCD used to overrun pretty much every week last year, it's nothing new.
I think Merlin will be down in the early to mid 5's next week, and could dip below 5m at some point in that slot.

I think the judges can be a problem. Sometimes they babble on too long. By the end of the show Bruce was trying to rush them a bit. And there was a cock-up at the end: when they ran a VT recap of the phone numbers, two of the numbers weren't heard, so the missing numbers had to be read out by Tess Daly, who was having the numbers passed to her via her earpiece.
I think Merlin should be kept in the same slot every week and put on SCD between 6 and half 6. The lead in from SCD will sustain the good ratings that Merlin got last night.. with it being aired earlier next week, I can see Merlin's ratings being lower as viewers won't be aware of the earlier time and it won't have the SCD lead in. It's quite annoying that they swap round the times they show Merlin - they should just keep it around the half 7 slot. It's nice to see a family drama in a more primetime slot.

Looking at EastEnders' 5-minute breakdown, looks like a combination of a short episode and ITV's Coronation Street tactic is one of the reasons for its below par rating.
Pretty good for Wire in the Blood, but low ratings all round really. I suppose people are making the most of the nights while they can (even though it's dark at 7.30 now, I guess it's not too cold).
Awful night for ratings on Friday-though even when the weather was at its hottest in the Summer ratings weren't that low I didn't think. Though the weather and people going out doesn't really explain the poor shares. What was everyone watching because the shares for Emmerdale & EE are absolutely awful!?
WITB dropped, but still put in a respectable performance, but Al Murray collapsed with a poor rating and share.
