Great game though.”

What about the match itself, I imagine the audience share is brought down by the 30 minutes of waffle at the end.

Overnights from Brand Republic. The big news is Mutual Friends won the n9pm slot with 5 million!! Where did they suddenly get the viewers from?

Quote:
“Jamie's Ministry of Food launches with 3m viewers

LONDON - Channel 4's new cookery series 'Jamie's Ministry of Food' opened with a solid 3m viewers last night, according to unofficial overnight figures.

The first episode of the series, in which the celebrity chef visited Rotherham to show working class mothers how he thinks they should cook, captured a 13.3% share of the audience between 9-10pm. Including the ratings on Channel 4+1, it had 3.3m viewers.”

It is possible that Manchester United carry more of the audience over to ITV4 than Chelsea? I'd be interested to see how the Man United audience compared with Chelsea's a fortnight ago for a full comparison between the two matchdays on the ITV channels.

yes indeed
Quote:
“ITV4's live coverage of the AaB Aalborg and Manchester United Champions League clash picked up 1.9 million and a multichannel share of 9.6% between 7.45pm and 9.30pm, while the full programme, including match analysis, gained 1.7 million and an 8.5% share between 7.30pm and 10pm.”

“ITV1's Champions League coverage of the match between Arsenal and FC Porto scored 3.8 million and a 17% share between 7.45pm and 9.30pm, while coverage of the match between 7.30pm and 10pm gained 3.4 million and a 15% share.”

Does it strike anyone that the BBC's scheduler's have made a hash of it this week. Although Mutual Friends did well, perhaps that is because it remained in the same slot all through its run. And perhaps Who Do You Think You Are? was diminished by being moved from its usual spot so Silent Witness could appear, thus angering Heroes' fans as this prevented an HD simulcast of the first episode of series 3.

Although I think that Who Do You Think You Are? may have reached its natural end as the stories are becoming rather repetitive (Holocaust, slavery) and a failure to make the middle and upper class stories compelling, it can't be helped by sloppy scheduling.

Many thanks for that GeorgeS. I had a suspicion that the difference between the Liverpool and Arsenal ratings might be explained by the relative ITV4 ratings on the nights.

I'm a United fan, and can fully understand the frustration other clubs' fans have with ITV showing preference for Manchester United on ITV1 over many years, but given the ratings its hard to see what else a commercial channel can do (at least ITV this year have the Celtic game as an excuse to show the extra Man United group game on ITV1).

WDYTYA was moved to Monday and BBC1 didn't show any trailers for it. MUPPETS!!

They should have kept it on Wednesday for its entire run. I don't understand why they moved it. Mutual Friends has been getting middling viewers most weeks so I was stunned to see it get 5 million.

On a sidenote Broadcast has been talking about Casualty's ratings slide.

Casualty in need of first aid

And Five have bought US show The Mentalist.

Jamie Oliver's new Channel 4 series - in which he tries to get a whole town cooking - launched with 3 million viewers last night, Tuesday, September 30.

A further 264,000 watched on Channel 4 +1 an hour later.

The final part of BBC1's Mutual Friends won the 9pm slot with 3.5 million and a 15% share across an hour.”

That's a big rating for ITV4, just shows the pull of Man Utd that the London clubs just cannot match.

I was flicking between both matches. It's a shame ITV couldn't do a multiscreen coverage like Sky or the BBC do with their interactive services.

I only realised it had moved as I have it on sky+ series link. It did finish on a weaker celebrity as well.

Broadcast are saying it was ITV4's highest ever rating last night.

Quote:
“ITV4 scored its highest ever audience for any programme last night as Manchester United's game against Alborg averaged a hefty 1.7m (8.50%) from 7.30pm.
The game itself, which saw the English side cruise to a comfortable 3-0 win, averaged a strong 2m (8.96%) from kick-off at 7.45pm. The audience peaked with 2.3m (11.3%) at the end of the match.

The show was head and shoulders above anything else on multichannel television last night and, in multichannel homes, the third most popular channel during the match, outperforming both BBC2 and Five.”

ITV were abit stupid with the matches last night#
I was surprised Man Utd was on ITV4 because it is Man Utd and Liverpool which do bring in the high ratings and they should really always go on ITV1.

Well given that they come in for a lot of criticism of fans of the other clubs for their Man U bias they can't win.

They looked at the games, and the Arsenal match should have been more competitive so went out on ITV1.
