The second Corrie has now overtaken the first in terms of the Monday night ratings.

Interesting how well the Duke did. No word on what the respective News At Ten's got last night? I would have hoped ITV got close to 3m for their programmes last night.

With the 8:30 Corrie proving more popular, ITV might decide to air the episodes at 8:30 soon period.

They tried it last year and it didn't go too well, but now it looks like a good plan and it can open up Coronation Street to be broadcast every weekday, something ITV needs, instead of double episodes, which will only make it unpopular in time.

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday at 8:30pm would be brilliant for its 9pm audience and might even indirectly affect the news audience.

While, EastEnders could air Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday at 7:30pm. Up against it could be Tonight (twice a week), two regional programmes and, say, a half an hour football magazine show.

Or, even better Emmerdale could air for an hour undisturbed on Wednesday nights, which would really give it room to grow.

The only problem I can spot is a popular ITV cop show: The Bill. It's 8pm slot would be demised and I don't think it would be best to start it at 7:30, it would be airing against EastEnders over on BBC1 and it would just kill the show.

Instead, it could have its very own Wednesday night slot at 9pm throughout the year, easing pressure on ITV dramas and it would ensure some solid results for ITV.

An example of how a typical Wednesday night would work in the summer months (where it would be successful because in effect two programmes are moved back an hour which is good for the summer)

I suppose it's just an idea but do you think it would come to any positive avail?

EDIT: Another possible solution. Coronation Street could air from 8:30pm through the summer months. I noticed that the 7:30pm showing got a larger share than the 8:30pm showing. So, it proves considerably that less people are watching TV at 7:30 than 8:30. So, perhaps my idea could be an answer.

As far as schedule branding goes thay have Sunday Ruddy Sunday.

E4 have 4 very strong programmes there, but they rely too much on first chance episodes of many programmes:

-Desperate Housewives
-Dirty Sexy Money
-Big Bang Theory
-Hollyoaks

Personally I think ITV2's schedule is more rounded, but E4 has some quality programming, however sometimes seems to get confused as to whether to air programmes on More4 or E4 e.g. ER, Supersize V Superskinny, Supernanny.

ITV2 also has daytime sorted with repeats of Emmerdale/Corrie for those who can't watch them at nights, exclusive episodes of chat type shows and at the weekend it can be moved around to suit the peaktime schedule with one repeat each week of Beat The Star/Millionaire & Ant & Dec type shows. However they do milk some shows to death i.e Gossip Girl which seems to get hundreds of repeats in one week.

A typical ITV2 weekday schedule is very rounded as they have a permanent episode of Smallville in the 7pm slot, an old ITV1 repeat of a show from anytime up to a year ago/an ITV2 repeat in the 8pm slot and either films, new programmes or ITV1 repeats in the 9pm slot and the 10pm slot onwards often airs films, new episodes of shows or soap repeats and imo ITV2 should have a stable home for a soap repeat e.g Corrie at 10:30pm on Monday's and Fridays and 11pm Wednesdays and Emmerdale to follow it on those days and on Tuesday/Thuesday to air at 11pm.

I like the nightly Corrie at 8.30 idea - I think it would pay off for ITV1 especially in the summer months. I don't see why The Bill couldn't move to Mondays and Fridays at 7.00pm, but your alternative idea for a weekly 9.00pm episode also sounds good. My plan is for ITV1 to trailblaze with a News at Eight - I think News at Ten is already basically redundant. The schedule would look like this:

5.30 PM News at Five Thirty
6.00 London Tonight
6.30 You've Been Framed (Possibly to fill-up schedule while another programme prepares to air in this timeslot, but could be permanent)
7.00 The Bill (Mon/Fri) ~ Emmerdale (Tue/Wed/Thur)
7.30 Tonight (Tue/Thur) ~ Family sitcom such as Teenage Kicks?
8.00 News at Eight
8.30 Coronation Street


I see the 10.00pm slot as room for ITV2 shows such as Secret Diary of A Call Girl, possibly a nightly chatshow, and films and extended dramas.

Very good account there. Personally I prefer E4 out of the two but I do agree that ITV2 is a stronger channel, a stronger brand and has a better schedule. I would go as far to say that ITV2 has a better reputation than ITV1.

Does anyone know how News at Ten did last night?

I think ITV2 is stronger scheduling wise than E4 and it has the advantage of having ITV1's better performing programmes and spin-off shows plus exclusive content like Gossip Girl, Katie and Peter and American Idol.

But I think in general all the Terrestrial Channels multichannels are quite strong and each ultilises their parent channels best shows.

E4 used to have it's "It's a 9 Thing" branding but the cancellation of The OC and the US writers strike have put paid to that, at last for this year. I'm surprised they didnt pick up Gossip Girl, tbh.

During the summer it will become "BB Central" with BBLB at 7.30pm and BBBM at 10/11pm but they do well for it, particularly the latter and much like BB on C4, they are excellent filler for the summer months.

It doesn't seem to be reported. I would guess at 2.5 million viewers.

No BBC2 share?

ITV2's daytime schedule, which consists of Ricky, Sally, Jessy and Montel are not new and exclusive, because they used to be shown on Channel 4 during the 90s/early 00s, and aren't new at all.

E4 probably has a stronger start to peak time than ITV2, with Hollyoaks and Friends attracting at least 0.5m every weekday, more than its competiter, but at 9pm, its usually ITV2 that gets the upper hand, though ITV2 has the advantage of having their shows advertised on a channel that has double the audience of C4. E4 used to do "It's a 9 thing", and if they kept using this, then it would be doing better, and taking ER off didn't help either.

But I think E4 is more successful, ad-wise, because it now attracts more younger viewers than any other digital channel, even with BB.

Yes, E4 has strong hits in Friends & Hollyoaks which constantly perform and also the comedy inbetween whether it's The War At Home or My Name Is Earl constantly performs with over 200,000 viewers. And as much as people complain about the Friends repeats, I wouldn't want E4 to get rid of them because they are excellent either on E4 or +1 if there's nothing else on They also give substance to the E4 schedule and are great lead ins for the 9pm slot.

E4 does also perform better in the 16-34 range which is great and referring to an earlier point someone made that one of the reasons ITV2 is successful is because it falls on the back of many successful programmes from ITV1 e.g X Factor & BGT & considering CH4 don't have hardly any big hitters the state of E4 is excellent.

However E4 is relying more and more on first chance programming just to boost their share. If Dirty Sexy Money & The Big Bang Theory return to the 4 brand then i would recommend that they both air exclusively to E4 as both are not performing for Ch4 ratings wise.

I agree with making The Big Bang Theory and to a lesser extent DSM E4 exclusives as they perform quite well as first looks.

Another channel that performs well is Five US though it benefits from daily repeats of The CSI Franchise, films and the odd exclusive content like Numb3rs. If it is become a stronger channel, it needs more exclusive content.

That's an almighty drop from EE. Only a quarter (approximately) stayed for Panorama.

I was having a look at E4 and even with Celeb Hijack it's having a really bad start to 2008.

Alot will depend on BB9 for it. If the revamped spin-off shows work out (and given the presenters, I doubt it) and the main show bounces back then it could spend a summer averaging close to 3% a night. Of course, if it goes the same way as BB8, then it could be down at 2%.

Also, with the success of Hollyoaks, I'm surprised that they arent going to try some E4 specials like they have in the past. Perhaps with the young characters going on holiday or something like that.

Looks The Duke ratings fell due to increased competition from F Word and CSI still respectable though and is a fair indicator what ratings the Fergie may get.

Am I only who thinks taht The F Word ratings are a little disapointing? I would of thought a show with Gordon Ramsay would pull in at least 3m as evident with Kitchen Nightmares a few months back.

A really good result for EastEnders in the soap clash. Maybe the gap was even more impressive during the thirty minutes between 7.30 and 8pm?

I also think that the ratings for the F-Word are low, considering in the past it normally hovers around the 3.8 - 4mil mark, good ratings for the documentary after though.

The ratings across all the channels were quite low last night especially for the soaps

I think the F word usually starts of quite low, then the ratings rise as the series goes on. For e.g. it started with 3.3m last year but by mid-June it was getting 4.3m. I expect the ratings for this series to rise, especially around the time when Big Brother is shown.


It's the same as last week- I think the Tuesday episodes will get around the 6m mark during the summer due to the Emmerdale clash. It's pretty good considering a couple years ago EE would get less than 5m against Emmerdale at this time of the year.
