I'm not really sure what more they can do. Something needs to go against SCD, ideally not XF. And for BBC1, Merlin provides a perfect alternative to XF and takes a big SCD lead-in, having already shown it can attract a decent audience.
I think they just need to risk a clash with SCD. There's not much else they can do without it resulting in a late results show. BBC have got more control over their Saturday schedules - though with the F1/football wildcards, ITV have got an opportunity to claim the night.

The late results show could be a coup...or could be a disaster. The opening live show needs to be a strong one, both in terms of ratings and entertainment.

Wow NCIS is really popular this season. The Dancing With The Stars results show always used to win its timeslot!!

And it looks like ABC is the channel of choice for news coverage now.
the winner on the news front is the oldest male anchor always ie charles gibson

But I thought Tom Brokaw was more established than Charles Gibson and yet for the election coverage viewers are going to ABC.

Tom Brokaw stopped presenting NBC Nightly News in 2004. He now just does ad hoc work for them (though he is presenting Meet The Press on a temporary basis for about 6 months after the death of Tim Russert). He also of course was the moderator for last night's debate.

Brian Williams now presents NBC Nightly News and he is much younger than Charles Gibson.

Anyone know the ratings for Richard & Judy's new show? Caught it last night (despite never having heard of Watch) and it was actually OK......

Five's new travelogue series Paul Merton in India got off on the right footing at 9pm last night with a strong 1.8m (8%).

Ok I was a bit optimistic

Greatest Cities Of The World With Griff Rhys Jones 3.4m (15%)

Overnights from Brand Republic and just as I expected Silent Witness won its timeslot:

Silent Witness pulls in high of 6.1m on BBC One

LONDON - BBC One's pathologist drama 'Silent Witness' is going from strength to strength, with 6.1m viewers, a series high, tuning in last night, according to unofficial overnight figures.

The third show in the new series, which saw the team examining a woman's mutilated body that had been dumped on the motorway, attracted a 26.2% share of the 9-10pm audience to win the primetime slot.
In a battle of the travel shows, ITV1's 'Greatest Cities of the World with Griff Rhys Jones' came out on top, beating Five's 'Paul Merton in India', with 3.4m viewers and a 14.9% share in the same slot.

Silent Witness is still a popular drama, it has the name recognition and will usually win its timeslot. Griff isn't really a mainstream ITV name yet. If this show was presented by Martin Clunes or David Jason it would have rated higher. The Paul Merton show is handicapped because it's on Five, it won't hit 3 million during its entire run if you ask me.

Silent Witness is a show that has evolved well over time. Amanda Burton moving on allowed them to up-date the series. Too often shows can get stuck in a rut.

I don't know what ITV are doing with their scheduling, which I feel is in a mess, because there is an easy way round it, which just takes a bit of sweet talking with Simon Cowell, and ITV being willing to spend extra money on a live show on Sunday.

Saturday:

6:00pm Creature Comforts
6:15pm All Star Family Fortunes
7:00pm The X Factor
9:00pm London's Burning (Classics) (As I've heard it's returning)
10:00pm Al Murray's Happy Hour

Sunday:

6:00pm The X Factor
7:00pm Britannia High (Into half hour format over New Year)
7:30pm Harry Hill's TV Burp
8:00pm A Touch of Frost
10:00pm Greatest Cities in the World

*South Bank Show now on Monday nights after News at Ten
*Heartbeat starting again next Spring
*Al Murray suffering on Friday nights with similar talk show format
*Greatest Cities in the World suffering on weeknight schedule.

Certainly moving the X Factor results to Sunday would be a very good move if it were possible. I envisage:

Saturday

6.30 Harry Hill's TV Burp
7.00 All Star Family Fortunes
8.00 The X Factor
10.00 Al Murays Happy Hour

Sunday

6.15 The X Factor Results
7.00 Britannia High
8.00 Heartbeat
9.00 A Touch of Frost

So similar to PJMillar really - though I'm not sure about putting drama in the 9pm slot on Saturday Nights (even a Londons Burning return) as it'd clash with the established Casualty. Better off moving X Factor a later to avoid the SCD clash - 10pm isn't too late to finish. I'd keep A Touch of Frost at 9pm to avoid the SCD results at 8pm.

Well, I feel they both appeal to different audiences, and I don't want to see Heartbeat suffer personally, as it has a sustainable future ahead.

If I were ITV, I would start being very sneaky on Sunday nights, airing a lot of repeats from 8-10pm, which will probably pull over 6 million viewers, especially if they're Foyle, Midsomer or Frost.

And ITV, in my opinion, need to find a rival for Casualty, and now is the best time. Casualty is getting a bit samey and boring, and I think that, brought back in the right way, London's Burning could become an institutionalised Saturday night hit. It could air 12 weeks per season, and the original characters can return (albeit those who were killed off), as well as 'fire influenced' storylines. It would work well around The Bill, hopefully it could bring viewers back to that.

I've heard it is returning for a one-off special, and some classic editions will follow.

But a series would be excellent, and I could compare it to Doctor Who. They've given it enough time off, and with a return that excites the public, it could be pulling in more viewers than Casualty, and then I predict Casualty will move to Sunday - the sort of thing that happens.

Paul Merton in India did very well for Five though TBH I thought would be dented by Greatest Cities of The World but it seems the reverse happened. It will be interesting to see whether ratings go up or down.

Silent Witness did well for BBC One as did Big Cat Live but Heroes on BBC Two did a hit though I imagine the BBC Three episode rated well.

I think Heroes ratings are down because of people watching the next episode on BBC Three, so when it turns up BBC2 some people have already seen it and don't bother. That's what I did.
