Surprised by last nights figures. A horrible clip show and a repeat show of an old episode
BBC3 are showing a new season to their channel on Sunday nights.

Yes, but the first episode was a clip show and the second episode was a repeat of PTV

Sorry, but the chances of NCIS ratings on FX being reported is 0.001%- very rare. It probably gets less than 100,000 viewers.

I wonder if any other movie this year will beat the c7.5m that the 19 year old Last Crusade will get in the official ratings?

The inevitable Shrek 2 repeat on BBC1 this Christmas might run it close, but any brand new film?

(I'll get me coat if any film so far this year has done better. I have obviously forgotten if so...)

As we don't know what the Christmas films on BBC One will be, this is based on guesswork. I think animated films like The Incredibles, Shark Tale and perhaps Lion Witch and The Wardrobe will top it or come close to it but another film which may come this year is Casino Royale on ITV1 which could potentially pull in decent figures.

Yes, but the mad fools at ITV1 will probably run it from 8.30pm-10pm on a Wednesday with part two from 10.35-11.45pm and as BARB will probably average it over both parts, it will end up with about 5m.

I too have no idea what films are on the rest of the year, but there seems to be an acceptance that films just aren't the draw they once were in the DVD/Sky age and 7m is fair going some now even for a big new film. Let alone one 20 years old that has been shown umpteen times.

True but they repeat well for multichannel and pull in decent figures especially for ITV2, BBC Three and Five US and occasionaly the odd family film or classic does pull in decent figures for example Matilda on Five got 3.3m and Dirty Dancing got 3m which is impressive for a 21 year old film which like Indiana Jones has been shown upteen times.

I think the reason that Indie did so well last night was that it gave older fans a chance to see the films again and gave younger people like myself (I'm 20, but I was only 1 when the last one was released) the first chance to see the films.

Btw, what's all the gushing about Beat the Star being better on Saturday night. It's absolutely dreadful. The two times I've been unfortunate enought to have seen it, I've seen people nailing nails into wood and people feeling plastic animals. Please get rid of this tat!!!

I don't suppose you have any figures for the criminally underrated and soon to be no more, Boston Legal?

They are on Sunday nights, the new home for films to be honest on our two main channels.

No way should both of the main channels show films at the same time though. It's bad enough that the news and the soaps seem to clash all the time, without starting showing peak time films at the same time as well.

Plus, it just smacks of laziness. Oh, we can't find a half decent programme, lets stick on a film. It's paramount to airing the whole last series of New Tricks on Friday peak time.

That's OK. I was just curious that's all. But you're probably right in that less than 100,000 watch it.

The second half averaged 8.1m (52%). Dunno about the first half. During the 2nd half, the other 4 terrestrial channels had a combined audience of about 3m (18%). Yesterday's final did better than previous finals involving Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea:

Previous FA Cup Final Ratings:
2007: Chelsea 1 Manchester United 0
Programme 12.40-6.00: 7.0m (53.7%)
Match 3.00-5.30: 9.7m (62.62%)
Peak 5:15 and 5:30: 11.5m (65.3%)

2006: Liverpool 3 West Ham United 3 (Liverpool won 3-1 on pens)
Programme 1.00-6.00: 6.5m (51.9%)
Match 3.00-5.45: 8.8m (62%)
Peak 5.30-5.45: 11.3m (64.7%)

2005: Arsenal 0 Manchester United 0 (Arsenal won 5-4 on pens)
Programme 1.00-6.10: 7.3m (50.5%)
Match 3.00-6.00: 9.9m (61%)
Peak 5.30: 12.8m (67.1%)

2004: Manchester United 3 Millwall 0
Programme 1.00-5.30: 4.3m (44%)
Match: 6.3m (55%)
Peak: 6.8m

2003: Arsenal 1 Southampton 0
Programme 12.10-5.20: 5.3m (44.4%)
Match: 8.3m
Peak 4.50: 9.7m (55.7%)

2002: Arsenal 2 Chelsea 0
Programme 12.10-5.25: 4.1m (43%)
Match: 6.3m
Peak: 7.4m
From the Guardian:

2008: Portsmouth 1 Cardiff 0
Programme 12.40-5.30: 5m (41%)
Match: 7.3m
Peak 4.30-4.45: 8.3m (52%)

Compared to recent finals, it didn't draw as much interest as the last three. It beat Man United-Millwall, which arguably shows that having two competitive teams is better than having one big team and one team with no perceived chance of winning. But, overall, it's still of more interest to have two top flight teams in the final, I think. The peak comparison isn't necessarily fair, since the last few finals went to extra-time (two to penalties) which naturally draw more interest.

Sky Sports:

Programme 2.00-5.30: 568,000 (5%)
Match: 646,000
Peak 4.45-5.00: 724,000.

Decent ratings all around last night and it seems that royalty does pull in the ratings as evident with The Duke last week and The Duchess this week.

NaT on the up?! They seem quite high figures for a 5.0 million lead in! Perhaps it's because it started just before 10pm (the same time as BBC NaT) and it had exclusive footage of the China earthquake.

Also a solid start for FIVE's new homegrown show.
