See, the problem I would have with scheduling for ITV is that I think NaT is failing and never will improve. I don't follow the idea of the two main channels running identical programmes against each other in this age and I think that in that situation the BBC will always win (partly due to being "1" and partly due to having no ads). With the BBC showing the News at 10pm, I think that slot is a huge opportunity going to waste.

Unfortunately, opening up the 10pm schedule to new drama/ comedy and other primetime shows isn't really an option when they can't even get the 9pm slot together. Hence I don't really know what they should do apart from commission better shows! (which is a tad simplistic!)

This is a request- does anyone know what the whole coverages of the Champions League Finals in 2005 and 2006 on ITV1 got in overnight ratings? Thanks in advanced.

I reckon a peak of 15-16m for the penalties, and an average from 7-11.15pm of just under 12m. Match itself, 7.45-10.30 probably will get about 13m.

Everyone keeps going on about News at Ten being on after BGT, but its only going to be on after Britain's Got Talent for 3 nights.

It needs more than 3 nights a year of good ratings.

My ITV1 schedule idea:

You're allowed to hate it. Some fairly dramatic changes there

Can't stand Chelsea, but anything's better than United.
Anyway 14.6 is an improvement on what ITV are used to at 10:30.

It would be interesting to see the figures for Sky Sports 1 to get an idea of how many people actually did watch it, not just the figures for ITV1.

little bit disappointing numbers though, shows how far TV viewing has declined.

even 5 years ago it'd be neared 20million peak.

so great for ITV, but shows the struggle terrestrial TV has in this age IMO I know theres SKY's figures to be added though.

Dunno. There probably is a time when it got lower; maybe the 2005 final?

It still beat ITV News though!

The Apprentice took a hit thanks to the football dipping below 6m for the first time in this series. I expect it will rise next week thank to the Holby City lead in but BGT will give it a run for its money. BTW how many episodes are left of this series?

Sky Sports will be somewhere near the 2.5m viewer mark.

Peak figure around what we'd expected although I did think the overall match average would be slightly higher. Did the ITV News really not begin until 11.15pm?! Such a long post-match show will have hurt that overall average pretty significantly. I must admit I only watched till the end of the penalty shoot-out itself - what time was the trophy handed out?

ITV made a slight mistake in the scheduling in my opinion.
I think they should have started at 7.00 (as they did), but named the show between 7.00-7.30 something like: "The Big Match Buildup". Then, from 7.30 name the show "Champions League Final". Then, the low ratings from 7.00-7.30 wouldn't have been included in the overall average. Also I think they should have finished at 11.00. The average from 7.30-11.00 was 10.6m. Doesn't really matter though, as the figures were very good anyways.

If ITV1 had done what you has suggested then I would have got 5 points in the Ratings Game!

While I like these ITV fantasy schedules that have been posted, is there any chance of someone like myself or any others doing a fantasy schedule for another channel like Five or ITV2 or is it jsut ITV1?

I was a bit surprised how quickly people turned off at the end. Looks like there was a bit of a delay actually getting the presentation underway and the viewers just petered out, negaiting any impact on the ITV News that some people had been predicting.

Thats what BBC1 did for the World Cup final 2006 and it did pay off.

1 WORLD CUP 2006: ENG V ECU (SUN 1600) 16.29
2 WORLD CUP 2006: POST-MATCH (SUN 1750) 13.45

10 WORLD CUP 2006: PREMATCH (SUN 1529) 7.44

If it was all in one name, BARB would have had rated the broadcast as 12.39 for the whole thing.

Was anybody else expecting more for the football? BBC 1 put in a very dignified performance The Apprentice held up very well and the BBC News managed to beat ITVs even with an astoundingly high lead in.

In a way I dont want Sky to have done well because I want Five US to have the top multichannel show of 2008. That would be a real turn out for the books. Is it likely the football will exceed 10m in officials? Could ITV not have scheduled it "Champions League- Extra Time" or something to hold that 14m.

I'm sure people would be interested to see your ideas and would contribute their own. I think people have just been focussing on ITV1 because thats really the channel thats seen the most changes in the past 6 months and where there is still the biggest debate. The BBC schedules are on the other hand, pretty settled, and relatively successful (when coupled with the right shows) too, so there's less of an incentive to change things around.

The BBC didn't do that from what I know. They had the whole coverage named under the same name.

But Barb always separate the pre-match, proper match and post-match official ratings for World Cup and European Championship matches. They even used to do it for FA Cup Matches and Rugby World Cup matches, but not anymore for some reason. I don't know why they don't do it for every football match, if they do it for WC and EC matches!
