Springwatch and EE shouldnt be running simoultaniously it affects BBC 1's shares.

It doesn't really matter in the long-run though does it? It raises the BBC TWO audience for a while and BBC ONE is still getting over 8 million viewers and almost 40% of the audience for EastEnders - anyway it may end up helping the Sunday Omnibus, BBC iPlayer and the 10.00pm repeat on BBC THREE. I think Springwatch may have taken viewers from Corrie's 8.30pm episode and Tonight on ITV1 before it anyway.

Do ITV have to show Tonight? What I mean is do they have a quota of that type of how they have to meet because quite frankly its ratings are dire and another show would possibly be more suited to the slot.

In the past it has been able to get 4 million viewers plus and over 20% of the audience against EastEnders. I don't know - ITV have several options open to them - putting Emmerdale in a permanent 8.00pm slot, developing a News at Eight, slotting half-hour episodes of Who Wants to Be A Millionaire or Golden Balls in...?

Naked bodies flopping are you kidding me!

Last night was unusual. Scotland & NI were showing local programming for starters. On a good night Tonight can get 4m and make it into the ITV Top 30. Considering Pushing Dasies was getting 2m at the end, Tonight aint doing too bad.

As previously mentioned is usually pulls in over 3 million viewers depending on the story, and I think ITV will always keep it in the slot, because I doubt anything else could do any better against EE. Both BBC1 and ITV1 give in tbh when putting stuff up against EE or Corrie. BBC1 air light documentary type shows & Panorama (both don't perform very well, but up against Corrie the performance is respectable). And ITV air regional programming, Tonight & Emmerdale up against EE-all of which usually perform better than BBC1's offering.

Incidentally, what do people think of this as an idea for ITV1's peaktime weekday schedule, pre-9.00pm?

I think this would definitely raise ITV1's share. Having Corrie on every night guarantees over 40% of the audience and over 8 millions every night as a threshold to the 9.00pm slot. Emmerdale stays in the 7.00pm slot, where it consistently beats The ONE Show and draws audiences of 6-8 million viewers. The Bill is the cornerstone of the week on Mondays and Fridays, giving it a headstart on EastEnders and allowing it to regularly draw 4-6 million viewers. Heartbeat would be very powerful in a Wednesday night slot with nothing on the other side - I'm guessing it would be able to manage 6-9 million viewers. Finally, the gameshows are family programming that will offer an alternative to EastEnders - I'm guessing they could each get about 3-5 million. The fact that each programme lasts an hour and is split across the hour means that it is given more chance to perform, The Bill has a headstart on EastEnders, the gameshows would pick up after EastEnders, and Heartbeat is given a free run deserving of its place as one of ITV1's most popular dramas. The only gap this leaves is possibly on Saturdays and Sundays. The Bill runs all the year round but WWTBAM and GB could be substituted with Duel or PokerFace. Heartbeat could be replaced by Wild At Heart or more likely The Royal.

^That sounds good, but what do you suggest ITV do about the Sunday peaktime as you seem to have given the Emmerdale/Corrie/Heartbeat slots away?

^^ You need to take into account that next season there will be football matches on Tuesday and Wednesday. The following season, ITV will show quite a lot of football matches on Wednesday.

Personally, I can't see Corrie staying in the Wed slot with all the football in the following season. I think ITV should move the wed and fri (2) corrie eps to Tue and Thu at 8.30.

So have Corrie on at:

Fri- 7.30

At least now, Corrie will provide a good basis for 9pm shows every day. Mind you, the Bill would have to move then. Maybe to 7.30-8.30 on Tue and Thu. Or 9.00-10.00 on those days?

Does any one have the ratings to loose women daytime show on itv1 lunchtime.

Regardless of whether any other programme would do better, ITV does have various obligations re PSB programming.

I don't know the exact details but they certainly have to show a certain amount of News in peak time and I think it's highly likely they also have to show a certain amount of "factual" programming.

So I think Tonight is required in order to meet this obligation. Whether they could somewhat reduce the number of episodes per year I don't know.

Similarly ITV also have to show a small amount of Regional non-News in peak-time though I think they are hoping for this obligation to be removed fairly soon.

They do, but they are well over target anyway with the other documentaries they so. Fact is Tonight does reasonably well against EastEnders.

Daytime figures are rarely reported as they are unspectacular but Loose Women usually gets between 1.1-1.4m with around a 20% share.

Tonight usually does really well so don't let one rating change that. Maybe last night's subject just didn't interest people

Tonight is I believe the highest rating of the factual/current affairs shows, much higher than Panorama

I've noticed that is always does better on Mondays than on Fridays.

I'd say Emmerdale will do quite well tonight. Val and Eric's wedding has been plugged so much today, I'd say around 6.8m, maybe even getting 7m.

Sweeney Todd was shown on BBC1 on 3rd January 2006, where it won 6.73m viewers according to BARB.

ITV1's highbrow rival offering, Teenage Tourettes Camp, got 4.08m.

I feel ITV's schedule needs to be kept similar with Sunday night being spruced up a tiny bit with a later weekend news round-up:
