Sorry but I'm just stating the obvious and as for eastenders that's just as bad- if not worse. Corrie's ok though.

The systems are already in place. Once the analogue signal is finally turned off then it will be how we watch TV. No more getting home to watch at a certain time. Sky plus is a rough version of the system and I think Dixons have a 'complete TV' on sale already, ie it's your PC, your DVD, media centre and your TV. It will work a bit like an Ipod, MP3. Drag drop.
I miss understood you originally, I thought you where talking purely on demand tv, no tv schedules at all and you just pck what you want (4od and I think BBC iPlayer)

Sky+, Freeview PVRs still require a tv schedule as now, and the ratings are still calculated as they currently are (official BARB figures include these)

It may be my opinion but it seems it's a lot of other people's too! More people watch neighbours than Hollyoaks- FACT!
Hollyoaks isn't even shown in Australia because it's so apaulingly rubish they don't deserve to be put through such a disaster and as for Eastenders it gets beaten by Corrie all the time now and in australia is bunged on some satelite chanel in a dodgy daytime slot.

Well we're all entitled to our opinions. To call it 'clearly appalling' is stupid however - because it's not as if it's a fact. Just your opinion. I watch it and it's right up there in terms of quality IMO. Currently I'd say only EE is better than it (out of the soaps I watch).
I have to agree with you. Hollyoaks actually bring up teenage issues in a very mature way such as sexuality, relationships, teen pregnancy, eating disorders etc so personally i wouldn't describe it as "clearly appalling"..

If you're going to base the quality of a show on how many people watch it then I feel sorry for you. A lot of the shows I watch are lucky to get 500,000 viewers in this country but I still love them.

EE is still either the first or second most watched show of the day and neighbours is about the twentith!

When neighbours goes to five it will rate less than Hollyoaks, I don't think you realise to the extent that neighbours is boosted by it's channel and thE fact that it's biggest competition is the weakest link!

If you add both showings for all shows then EE is the most watched show of the day because it usually gets 500k+ for it's second showing at ten and is always the most watched show on Tues and Thurs.

The gap between Corrie and EE is only a couple of hundred thousand these days and EE ocasionally win, but if you include the same day repeat EE win hands down.

What is the point about bringing the BBC repeats into this. Coprrie is Britains most popular soap. That is obvious.

Consistently top of the ratings
Eastenders Is Much Better Then Corrie..

Eastenders Is Always Getting Higher Ratings And Is Much More Popular Then Corrie!

It is not really that obvious. Corrie's ratings are indeed usually the highest for overnight figures for the itv1 show. However, a lot of people do watch the repeats and omnibuses, and they should not be discounted from deciding which soap is more watched. A lot more people watch the EE repeats in comparison to the Corrie ones. I think both soaps are as popular as each other.

I think the ratings in this day and age are not as accurate as were back in the day. Ratings are overrated (excuse the pun!)

There are several factors people should take into account that overnight figures simply should *not* be taken as serious as some people seem to take them.

Firstly in our generation there are several ways to view programmes now - watching at original air time; repeats; omnibuses; internet and On Demand/Sky+.

I don't take ratings to heart and I think a lot of people seem to really defend them as if they really matter... they don't when ways to watch programmes are expanding constantly and if the show still has a loyal fan market and is entertaining those people ratings shouldn't matter at all.

Not really
With corrie you either watch it at 730pm or record it
the reapts are too late some nights and midday when people are working

eastenders has a fixed 10pm slot on bbc3 plus the reapt sundays on bbc1 and also for people on virgin tv they can also get it on demand for free

so iguess people know they have afew chances to see enders

My Roundup of official ratings:- Eastenders was the most watched soap in the week ending 15/07/07
The official ratings are in, and when considering the first show, repeats and omnibuses, EE was the most watched show that week.

For that week, the itv1 Corrie show averaged 9.344m. Eastenders on bbc1 averaged 8.355m. So a difference of 0.989m.

But for the repeats on their digital channels, corrie on itv2 got an average of <0.35m. Eastenders got an average of 0.569m. However, roughly 5% of the viewers of these repeats were not unique viewers (so had seen that particular episode already). So, on average the number of unique viewers for the repeats were: Corrie- 0.3325m (assuming the average was 0.35m, which is highly unlikely), and EE- 0.541m.

So if you add the main show average and multichannel average together (which are the number of unique/new viewers), Corrie gets 9.6765(assuming that the itv2 show averaged 0.3325m which is very unlikely), and EE gets 8.896m.

But dont forget the omnibus, where the Corrie omnibus on itv2 usually gets less than 200,000 viewers. But to satisfy Corrie fans, I will give the average of the omnibus 0.3m, thus 0.285m unique viewers. But EE's omnibus on bbc1 that week got 1.5m, so 1.425m unique viewers.

So once the unique averages for the main show, repeats and omnibuses are added up, Corrie in that week got about 9.9615m unique viewers for each episode showing. In contrast, EE that week got 10.321m unique viewers for each episode showing. This shows that Eastenders was the most watched show on tv that week.
Kepp up the good work EE. Most watched and best soap on TV!

Yes well as this is a soap ratings thread I'd think I should judge a show on ratings. Remember a show with no ratings is a show that won't last long. Now lets just agree to dissagree!
In my opinion:
1. Neighbours is my number one soap.
2. All Saints
3. Sea patrol
4. McLeod's daughters
5. Love my Way
6. Home and away
7. Coronation Street
8. Grey's Anatomy
9.Shortland Street
10. Emmerdale

For starters you don't know that! You can't predict the future! Plus Neighbours rates as well as it does because it's good quality and the best show on TV. Anyone who dosn't agree with me must beliving in la la land. But oh well. As I said before we'll have to agree to disagree.

Hollyoaks ratings aren't exactly spectacular, high for channel 4 but that's not saying much.
