Admin Edit: This thread is a continuation of Soap Ratings Thread
Good EB is rising, but its still got poop ratings!
Corrie did not deserve those ratings, it was abismal!
EE should have had at least a million more!

EastEnders getting closer to Corrie.....

I can see the ratings for Corrie going down if it doesn't sort itself out soon.

It's not surprising that Corrie dropped so much from the first episode.

The drop won't be as big as you think as Corrie finished at 20.55 last night and the average will have been brought down for the last 5mins. In the officials I would expect the 20.30 Corrie to be higher than last nights EE.

Why is it now finishing a whole 5 minutes early?

It still has the ad break. Are they now getting away with passing off 15 minute episodes as whole ones?

Why are Corrie's ratings that low?

Looking back through this thread, Corrie this time last year on Mondays was getting 11m+ for the first episode and 10.5m+ for second episode. EE on the other hand is getting higher Monday ratings this year compared to last year. I've noticed that EE is now nearly every week beating the 2nd corrie ep. Last year EE wasn't even that close to the 2nd Corrie.

I realise that the 2nd Corrie finished about 5 mins early so the average was brought down. But wasnt that also the case last year as well?

Because it started at 20.28 and ended at 20.55. The final figure will be something like 10.6m.

The 20.30 episode always finishes early, due to starting early.

The overnight figure of 9.7m is for 20.30-21.00. It doesn't measure the episode accurately.

I understand. I expect the 2nd Corrie's official rating to be higher than EE.

But, my point was that there has been quite a big drop for the Monday Corrie ratings so far this year compared to last year. Is the show not good at the moment?

Corrie is less than stellar at the moment, but to be honest they are good ratings for what the show is producing at this time. 10.8m for the 7.30 episode is excellent!

EDIT: - read last nights Corrie review thread. It got slated!

Here is a comparison of the 2008 Monday night episode ratings for both soaps to until the same point last year:

12.78…11.69
12.05…11.87
11.83…11.33
11.66…11.65
11.42…11.57

12.27…10.95
11.91…11.29
12.06…10.95
11.60…11.72
10.50…9.80
10.80…9.80
10.80…9.70

11.68…10.66 <--average

EastEnders
2007….2008
10.96…8.55
10.69…10.98
10.08…10.78
10.35…10.51
10.41…10.39
10.52…10.29
10.14…11.01
9.60..…10.70
9.10…..9.90
9.80…..10.20

10.17…10.33 <--average

italics are overnights because the officials not yet available for 2008.

Both Corrie eps have dropped in viewers. The second Corrie has dropped more than a million! . EE actually gained viewers, which is really good because it's against the general trend.

rzt, you know how you post the '___ has averaged ___ so far this year against it's ___ last year" - do you know what that is so far for EE?

and if so; is that including the clashes with ED and what would the average be without it? Has it increased or decreased?

sorry for the q's, am interested

From the official ratings available, EastEnders has so far in 2008 averaged: 9.52 million viewers. Till the same period in 2007, EastEnders averaged: 9.84 million viewers. So it is a drop of 0.32m (3.2%) viewers.

Excluding the Emmerdale clashes, in 2008 EE has so far averaged: 10.14 million viewers. Till the same period in 2007 (excluding the Emmerdale clashes), EE averaged: 10.03 million viewers.

So, excluding the Emmerdale clash episodes, EE is actually up this year compared to last year, which is brilliant. It's just a shame that the Emmerdale clashes mean that EE's average is lowered by about half a million viewers. It does not really give a fair reflection of how well EE is actually doing.

Incidentally, Corrie in 2008 is averaging: 11.1m viewers. Until this point in 2007, it averaged: 11.44m viewers.

So, both soaps have dropped by exactly 3.6%. However, excluding the emmerdale clashes for both 2007 & 2008, EE is up from last year by 1%.

Those are a bit high for a clash aren't they?

I assume there was a clash since they're still a bit low.

That explains it thanks.

Though I'd have thought both soaps might have got a touch higher in that case. I suppose people get used to trends and if they've been catching either soap on repeats etc for weeks now then they'll just stick with their now usual routine.
