Repairing IPOD

I had a dead video ipod with a broken screen, no sound nothng.

Have now replaced the screen, plug it into to charge it and the screen now comes on (white) but it is totally non responsive and I can not switch it off and it is not recognized by ITUNES or Windows but it does show up in device manager as an IPOD although no drive details are available.

Any suggestions ?

A good question, if I hold it to my ear there is certainly some sound from it when it switches on and off.

I can now switch it off by holding Menu and Select for 7 sec. but 5 sec. later it switches itself back on.
