When it finally SI:NKs down the plughole, the tabloids will want a lead presenter to hang responsibility on - a scapegoat you might say. I can't see Dougie clamouring for the position. So RI:SE'll keep Kate until the bitter end......

But I thought she had improved the ratings?
(proved on another thread)

That would be the Royal 'we'?

... I guess they have gone for a less adventurous option and chosen experience over charisma.
They have gone for probably the only option they ever really considered, despite the 'leaked' rumours about Kate Lawler - somebody who knows what she is doing.

According to the same article, two years ago TOTP had 4 million viewers but now has only 2 million, so Margherita Taylor is going to have to be as successful as Kate has been with R:SE and double the figures.

surely our young miss Katie Lawler hasn't actually doubled the breakfast show figures though has she?

Starting at about 200,000 and the latest figures being 470,000 is generally considered as having a negative effect on a show.

They say love is blind...

As it has been pointed out numerous times...

• RI:SE isn't kate's show... if ratings have improved that would be the result for the whole team.

• If the ratings had improved to the level they were aiming they wouldn't have to scrap it.

• Most of the improvement in ratings have been parallel to Reality TV shows being shown at the time. So much so, they have especialized on them.

As has also been pointed out in the past, Iain was part of the old failed regime and Kate joining the show coincided with the increase in figures, irrespective of whether the show revolved around reality TV shows.

I think they were always going to scrap it to save money

Apparently C4 have bought up the old series of ' Friends ' and are desperate to find a two-hour slot to give us, erm, 'another opportunity ' to see it

Ian and Dougie managed quite well to keep viewing figures without the helping hand of Miss Lawler for two weeks.

270,000 perverts tuning in for a glimpse of gusset then, sad buggers

Bizarre report. The BBC has lots of people who fitted the top of the pops requirement - they were the people doing TOTP now.

The argument for a change was that they were not attracting the audience. The argument for Kate was that she was younger, proven with a teen pop audience on Capital, knew most of the artistes, had a fan following and had managed to put up the ratings in her last two jobs - both of which she inherited from someone who is now doing TOTP/Radio1.

Don't see the argument for Margherita though - she is older than their current crop of presenters and if Cat Dealey says she was considered too old.....Capital has a host of TV people (Katy Hill/ Emma Forbes who Andi could have gone for if he wanted someone older. If Fern can't pull the teens in I can't see how Margherita can as Fern wins on age/fun and looks. They needed Fern plus not Fern plus a lot of birthdays.

If TOTP was live on FrIday it wouldn't clash with margherita's night shift on Capital Sunday -Thursday. If its recorded earlier presumably something will have to go.

I think there's a few people on this thread suffering from premature exultation.

Thx Emzi. That sort of confirms it doesn't it.

Beats Kate to the TOTP's job is a bit different to 'Kate turns down TOTP's Job' don't you think.

Dougie has maintained Kate's viewing figures while she's been away because quite obviously the viewers like Dougie as much as they love our Katie.

Was Margherita a former presenter of T4 on Sundays? I don't remember that. Or are The People confusing her with Miquita Oliver (who I think would actually be more suitable for the job).

Miquita photo

If it is Margherita, this may mean that TOTP is aiming to air more sophisicated acts. It might also be an indication of an overall shift in the music scene of the demise of boy band culture to be replaced by more credible artists.

With Sarah Cox losing her breakfast show slot on Radio1, are ladette presenters and bimbo boybands on their last legs?

Is this a fact, or Neil's interpretation of the original People article which makes no mention of Kate, at least not in the online version that I read.

It can be found here. Click on Features and it's the second item down.

Will Margherita be on every week?

Yes, Norti, Margherita used to present T4 around the same time as Dermot O'Leary.

Oh yes, that's jogged my memory - I do remember Dermot on T4.

I hope Margherita does well on TOTP. It seems like Andi Peters looks after his friends and he certainly is a good person in the industry to know.

Which coincided with the show switching it's entire content to reality TV shows.....

I wonder what poor Kate can expect to do next. I can't exactly see the offers flooding in. Oh well, at least she bagged herself a wealthy football player whilst she could.
