I think I sympathise with those people who say it's just being done for convenience etc.

Not you, obviously, but some do it to "calm" the dog down.

Anyone know where I can see a scan of Ziggy's interview in Heat? i don't want to buy it, but I did have a quick glance at it in a newsagent.

No. To support the dog properly he would have to have lifted her higher i.e. against his chest. As it was she was just dangling from his arms and didn't look well supported IMO.
