And in this part the prouducer talks about why the network didn't want to hire Dirk!!
But he wanted him to play Starbuck. And the rest is history!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCJbN...elated&search= And it is in this part where the Dirk and Richard problem is talked about. Dirk tells it like it is...go Dirk!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CtIZn...elated&search= The narrator says "Richard was being a pain in the butt and Dirk doesn't really care one way or the other"!!

What fools they were to not want Dirk for the part of Starbuck from the off! That part was made for him as Glen Larson said. I think I read in his book that he had a meeting with Glen Larson before the series started and he created that character for him. No-on else could have done it better

![]() we get a very strong impression that Dirk is a very laid back character and doesn't give a **** about anyone and anything especially on set . He just seems like a fun guy to hang out with whether it was in the days of him being Starbuck, Face or the present day Dirk. He in one cool American dude!!

It must have stuck in the guts of the powers that be - the person they didnt want and were forced to have became the most popular out of the whole series

I KNOW!!! The network were clueless muppets for not wanting him. Didn't he say it was the same with the A Team and the network. The A Team producers wanted Dirk to play the character but the network didn't agree ...but again he got his way and went on to become a star!!

I think there was huge pressure on Glenn Larsson to find someone else - in his book Dirk says they had actually started filming publicity shots for BSG without having decided on who should play Starbuck. Good for the producer for sticking to his guns

He went through so much before BG that by then I think his prime objection was to enjoy life to the fullI loved that tiny clip of Dirk on that food show with Richard Hatch and Lorne Green mucking about Shame we can't see the whole thing. I bet it was really fun

![]() Yeah Larsson also said that the producer sent in an actor of their choice to the studio to play Starbuck and Larsson described him to be very short..something like 5ft 1 . Larsson knew straightaway that he wasn't the guy to play Starbuck, he compared the cast to look like something out of wizard of Oz lol . But that made Larsson more determined to get his man, Dirk, to play Starbuck.

They wanted someone who would suck up to them which isn't Dirk's style But that is what we all love about him...his laid back attitude to life!! He is the guy next door (i wish he was next door to me ) And for a celebrity (especially in the modern day time) he has no ego, he is down to earth and what you see is what you get with him.On TAT thing, I seriously can't imagine anyone but Dirk playing the Faceman and i get the shivers thinking that another actor was close enough to play him.

I'm getting the box set soon of Series 1-3 so will get the chance to see the man who played Faceman in the pilot eposide. That will be a strange experience I think See you later RGWT
