It got merged with this thread....we started another one, which is doing quite well, but the mods won't answer me when I have been asking them why it was merged given that this is a thread appricating dirk and that was a thread appreciating dirk's YJ...

At one point they had changed the thread title to 'dirk benedict apprciation, but they did at least change that back.

I think it was most likely one of two members of the ECC who maybe reported it, i.e oh look there are two dirk appreciation threads, and they merged the threads without even checking them out.

How odd.
Theres so many pretty pointless threads that im kinda shocked that anyone would bother messing with the YJ thread really - especially as its one of the sweetest and funniest threads on the forum.
At least you've done a cracking job on the new one - you lot have certainly been busy!

I feel sorry very for Cleo. She's very bonnie, actually and it's hardly surprising that he turned her head - especially given that she was locked up with him for weeks. .

I think we are pretty determined to build it back up again...as for why anyone would bother messing with it...revenge. Seems It isn't just Cleo that's a bit on the bitter and twisted side, some of her fans are too....

Maybe it was that a certain YJ thread had more hits and views than another certain thread It can't be easy to handle

How sad, if you dont like a thread then dont read it! Seems like those poor misguided fools have way too much time on their hands....which if it is the work of Cleo fans in understandable really, after all what else could they do with their time!

Im pretty sure that the YJ thread will be even bigger and better....you can't keep a good jacket down!

If only he'd really tried! He was born to be a star, that man. That face and that personality! He didn't try at all and yet, just by delivering an extension of himself he created two of TV's most endearing and memorable characters and overshadowed the entire cast in his first big part. Think what he could have done if he'd really bothered. He was so incredibly beautiful and yet really manly! How often do we get that combination these days? I quite like Johnny Depp but I still think he's wet - and as for sweet baby Orlando, he's adorable; but, let's face it, the only reason you'd wake him in the middle of the night would be to give him his 2.00 o'clock feed!

Oh, Dirk! You wally! Come to think of it, if he'd really tried he could have been anything from a top sportsman to musician, doctor, lawyer... anything! (No, OK.. not doctor as he has such serious issues with them!) He could still be a top writer. He doesn't approve of populist writers, (he doesn't approve of anything much, really), but he's such a brilliant story-teller he could write explosive, top-drawer fiction that would wipe the floor with the pot-boilers on offer just now. Write, Dirk! You idiot! You're a dazzling writer - but you're 62 and the grave is yawning - in case you'd forgotten! You're cracking on a bit, honey! (Even if this is not readily apparent to everyone who sees him by virtue of his youthful mien. OK, he'll probably see us all out but he could gather a ton of ice on his wings. Sh*t happens!)

He's enjoying a very rich and full life but endowed with the embarrassment of riches he possessed and possesses in terms of ability, I would have loved to have seen him fulfil his promise in one field. Actually, I think acting is his weakest area of expertise but, given his head, he can carry the part by sheer force of personality - as did John Wayne before him. (He never played anyone other than himself - but Dirk is a great deal more likeable and attractive.) Give him something decent, someone!!! Quick!

Sorry about the diatribe, folks - but consider what might have been. If he hadn't been such a maverick.

By the way, (snigger), I've just acquired "Ruckus"! (Eat my shorts!)

Not really! (Yes, really!)
Evening all Just trying to catch up on what I've missed tonight

Thanks for all the great screencaps that have been posted

Hermoine I understand your frustration where Dirk was concerned with regard to his career but you have to admire him for being his own man and doing things his way. As you say he is talented in so many areas. I love his writing style and am sure there is more to come in that area. I'm still hoping that acting is still something he will continue too if something ignites his interest enough.

You have quite a way with words yourself and find myself agreeing with what you have to say
