Exactly! Dirk played himself! He can be curmudgeonly, certainly, but he's still got so much sparkle. A very charming, alluring and compelling nature. Does Daniel Day-Lewis have sparkle and charm? On the odd occasion I've seen him interviewed, I cannot say that I noticed if he had.

Yes, I did acquire it on e-bay. At least I know that it will play on my old video machine. A DVD version is going for £53.00!

You weren't competing with me, were you, Muttley!

NOpe, Daniel Day Lewis is a very strange sort, obsessed with the 'method' approach...very gifted nonetheless...but no charm whatsoever!

eta: no I wasn't competing with you!!!

Dirk certainly has a natural charm that is rare and thats one of the reasons why we were all drawn to him on CBB. That and of course his other lovely qualities

Well done Hermoine on getting your hands on Ruckus without paying an inflated price. Its ridiculous that the DVD is going for such a high price

Was it Caiman? They delivered very quickly but my machine won't accept it, although it's meant to be multi-regional. I think it has something to do with the TV as well. It has to be NSPCC compatible, or something.

NO, it was through a seller I know who sells new and used DVD's on Amazon, he was selling a nearly new copy at a reasonable price....he lives in Canada!

Muttley,

The secret Santa present, can it be unusual in not the sort of present you might expect to give or recieve or do we have to stick to traditional ones

I can send you my choice by pm to look at if you like?

I think it takes an awful amount of talent and charm to make an audience warm to a character. Pulling off likeable, especially playing characters who are for the most part pretty self centred and ever so-slightly vain is no easy feat.
Im a big fan of Michael J Fox (have been for years) and i think him and Dirk both have that ability - they can make a character who on paper (Face/Alex P Keaton for example) have their fair share of faults both lovable and endearing.

Btw - how fantastic was the Fred Astaire BSG eppie the other day. I actually cried. **hides head in shame**

It was AMAZING on so many levels...I found myself thinking of it out of the context of the show, in terms of Dirk's own life experiences, and wow, very profound.....beautifully done

No need to hide your head Haggy-me. It was a very moving episode and very enjoyable. Dirk and Fred Astaire seemed so natural together and knowing that they became friends off set made it even more so

I often have tears run down my face watching some TV series programmes or films. I always see it as a sign that they manage to project themselves well, to move me to tears like they sometimes do. Even though I keep reminding myself it's not real, the tears flow down my cheeks sometimes. If I am sitting with someone else at the time, I make an excuse to leave the room in case they think soppy moo
