Morning all

>>very sad today I am.
My son has not been allocated the school we wanted
They've put him in the local school and its rough. Really rough. He's not going to get on there at all. Sorry for the downer but I'm devastated.
I think I am going to fight for this - its not right that a kid who works hard to learn and gives 100% to the school is not granted a opportunity of a better placement. God I am so gutted.

Anyway thats popped my bubble.
Last night was a laugh - I shall mentally recapture some of those images to keep me sane today as I take on the mighty nemesis of parents everywhere, the Education Admissions Department.

I'll pop back later.

And I'll not moan anymore - Dirk doesn't need to hear my personals does he >>>imaginary hug from Dirk (((trixiehobbit))) - better already

Awwwww Trixie - you moan away as much as you need to. I am so sorry they've done this. Seems to me sometimes the kids that try and work hard sometimes get less understanding and help than those that dont. My middle daughter is very bright, maths is her thing. No matter how many times I told the school she needed to be stretched they just ignored me. She was so bored at school. I remember one report from the school praising her maths skills - it said something like if ****** continues with her hard work in maths she has the ability to become a very good mathmatician. Thats the only time I replied to a report....I put if ******* does go on to become a very good mathmatician it wont be any thanks to the school, but to her and the hard work she puts in, and the cynic in me cant help but think you like her because she'll do well in her SATS. She got given harder work after that. She got bullied by one girl and the amount of time I spent at that school was unbelievable - the bully got a huge amount of understanding - she had a rotten background.....I know that my kids are lucky as they are some of the few who don't come from a split family, but it doesnt mean they dont deserve some consideration and if needed help too. I am all for helping kids who have it rough and have problems etc - but it does annoy me that at times it appears that this is at the expense of those who aren't in trouble every 5 minutes.

Fight for your boy trixie - and rant away

Morning guys

Trixie, that really sucks. I wish you all the luck in your forthcoming battle and hope your son gets the decent placement that he deserves.

Oh that's terrible. It really gets to me the way the education system has gone down hill in this country. I don't have any kids but I would seriously think about educating them at home if I ran into this - obviously I wouldn't have the financial ability to do this though so then what?

In my day you did your 11+, passed or failed, then put down your local school selections. Generally most kids ended up in a good school if they had worked hard. No doubt some fell through the gaps. But now. It seems like the more intelligent and industrious they are the more they are punished. And what you say about bullying - hasn't changed much. I was bullied and the answer from the head mistressl? "bullying doesn't happen in my school."

I hope you win through for him. I will keep my fingers crossed.

Morning all

Feeling a bit tired today after last nights festivities and late night

So sorry to hear about the problem your facing at the moment Trixie I was lucky that my two went to the local comprehensive within walking distance of our house and the school had a good reputation.

Rant away as much as you like. I wish you the very best of luck with your fight for your son to go to a decent school which is what every child deserves.

BG was good today. Lots of Starbuck who meets up with an old flame

Also been trying since 9 am for Take That tickets without success

The first primary school my kids went to the policy was clear and I remember the head saying.....any school that denies they have bullying is lying - its how you deal with it not whether you have it.

The second school (we moved) was the one that had problems. Their anti-bullying policy was at the very best crap. 3 years ago they put in place a new policy (still waiting to be ratified by governors). I was not popular when I pointed out that the wording of it made it appear that the bullies were more important than the victims or trying to deal with the situation. Apparently they valued my feedback. I think they just wanted to stop me going in to see the head twice a week. I also ended up quoting the law to them and getting the LEA involved as I knew what I was saying was correct.....god bless the internet I learnt a very valuble lesson from it all......don't back down if you know you are right - fight every step of the way cos it appears that a lot of them just want to beat you down and get you to accept what is clearly wrong for your child. Until that all started I used to be very quiet on the school front of things......I realised that that was doing nothing to help my kids at all. Have to admit my hubby being a town councillor for the ward the school is in helps too And him being a governor at another school adds to it all as well.

Good for you RG for handling things in the way that you did. If only more parents these days were as caring as you. I sincerely hope your daughter's bullying has stopped

Oh yes I left them little choice in the matter. A child being punched in the forehead in front of a teacher and that teacher not reporting it leaves the school in a very vunerable position. In the end I just told the school that as they were both approaching the age where the police could get involved I would be reporting the next 'assult' on my daughter to the police. The head then said Oh I don't think you can call it an assult......I replied that if a pupil did karate kicks on a teacher and chased them to do more I was pretty sure they would class that as an assult. She agreed it would be....so I then asked why my daughter was expected to have to put up with being assulted in their care. My hubby then spoke to the head of the governors at the next council meeting and told him that we would be involving the police, LEA and then the press if it continued. The last year she was there, there were no problems at all

I remember one of my last visits to the head she was looking at my boy (who I had been taking to every meeting) and she said oh hasnt he grown......I just said yes, and its sad that I have been coming here so often for so long that you have seen that When he goes to school full time I am considering going for the next governors position that comes up - they'll love that

Hey. Just catching up with the fun you guys had last night. Wish i could have been there,
I am still feeling unwell. Got a high temperature and the flu (there seems to be a bug going around, my brother had it last week and it looks like i caught it off him). I went to see my GP in the morning and got my mediction so hopefully i should be feeling better by the end of the weekend.

I watched today's BSG, loads of Starbuck so seeing him made me feel better during that hour.

I am laying in bed with my laptop on, and i will be watching some episodes of the A Team throughout the day to make me feel slightly better . I am onto season 3 now...really enjoying watching it and not just because of Face (although he is the main attraction ) but because of the great chemistry all 4 guys had and the comedy aspect of the show; especially when it comes to Murdock (i am falling in love with him too ).

Trixie - I am sorry to hear about your son not getting into the school of his first choice. The goverment need to sort the current educational system out for the sake of children being given a chance to be educated at a better schools. There are fewer schools left now with good reputations, environment and education standards. I went to an all girl secondary school, and currently my younger sister is attending the same high school and i have to say both her and I were very lucky to get admission there because of such high demand but such few places to give and it was a brilliant school. If you put an appeal through, i hope it works out because the most important factor is your son's education and to recieve at the best possible school.

I will try to come on here later on. Take care everyone.
