Out of interest Cicero, how long have you been following macrobiotic? And how did you first get into it?

I love other food too. I have a very sweet tooth. I think it would take some amazing will power to do the whole diet. But it's obviously great when you start getting the results and feeling better.

I have been on this thread before when CBB was on, but ashamed to say he went out of my mind a bit after a while . Still a big fan though. I just wish he was a bit more high profile (though I admire him for being a bit of a loner, so not too high!)

Have you all been posting on here all the time?

Just about. We've slowed down a little lately, but it's been a manic few months for Dirklings.

Nice to see you were drawn back in again.

Firstly, in the 80s when I was a student - only there wasn't really any such thing as a macrobiotic diet then - i just fell into it naturally, didn't know I was doing it. And partly because it was cheap and I never had any money as a student!

Then, latterly from the late 1990s - when I was much more conscious of what I was doing. However, I don't follow the diet when I'm staying with people as I think it is too restrictive and an imposition on my host/hostess. My parents, for example, are very traditional about food - always have meat or fish and vegetables - a perfectly healthy diet, just different to mine - so I don't follow it when I am staying with them.

I mysely had a serious illness three of so years ago of a similar nature to Dirks - and although I do not have a view about his theory regarding his cure from cancer, this was particularly interesting to me when he talked about it in CBB.

Essay over .........

Pretty much

But we try really hard to stay on topic now, in case the thread gets locked, because of all the new BB threads since the new series has started

I hope you're over your illness now.

I'm a bit obsessed with diet so I'm always interested in other people's views on it.

I'm absolutely fine thank you

To be honest, I just think that balance is the thing - and finding healthy foods that you enjoy. Otherwise, you won't follow a particular diet for any length of time. After all, food is one of life's great pleasures!!

Awww, hope you are fully OK now Cicero - that must have been horrible for you

I really admire you for carrying out the DIRKY DIET - it's SO restrictive!

So do you try and go to your parents as much as possible, so you can eat nice food?

I bet Dirk Benedict really loves his mother's cooking too

Very interesting, thanks for that. Sorry to hear about your illness .

I think it's good that people don't impose diets on others, it would be quite hard for them to accommodate it. My partner wont have a bar of it, which is why I haven't got down that route as much as I may have otherwise.

I just went on holiday and it was quite hard to basically abandon my new habits and eat what they had in the buffet (I did get used to it though!)

edit:
I didn't mention Dirk in that post - that doesn't count as off-topic, does it? If so, Dirk Dirk Dirk

It can be really hard away from home - though more so in this country that in Europe where they seem to eat lots more grains, rice and beans - just cooked differently to the traditional macro style.

I don't think it's obligatory to mention Dirk in every post but, if it is, I just have
