It is bad enough to be in school, suffering various indignities - ie ginger hair, too fat, glasses... which still become the target of the more perfect amongst us ..
But, being a child nowadyas is akin to being a teenager 10 years ago. Times have changed - kids are so much more image conscious (I do a whole Drama module in school for 10-11 year olds which is all about self image, as kids really are under a lot of pressure from that young an age).
Hell, I was a massive tomboy, I was still climbing trees and standing in goal at 15/16. Kids nowadays really understand and bow to peer pressure.
For a kid who has any difficulties assimilating whatsoever, school can be the cruelest place. When someone in the public eye has the same problems as you AND still overcomes them, then, it helps you to realise that you are not alone. Pete has done that for the thousands of tourettes sufferers in the UK - and not just kids, but, it is the kids that his media exposure will affect - not just those who suffer the disorder, but those who do not, as they will now understand it.
I've taught kids who have ticks, kids who twitch/ticks, kids who swear, or swear tick/twitch and I know that the ones I still see have said 'Oh my god! It's so normal, even Pete off BB has it... I thought it was only us!!' - no, Gazza has tourettes and other famous people include Jim Eisenreich, professional baseball player, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) - Mozart!! How cool is that! and Dan Ackroyd, to name a few.
I really feel as a teacher of kids with SEN or 'Additional Educational Needs' as it is now PC named, that Pete's exposure has been such a brilliant, inspiring thing. I'm so upset that the good work he has done has been overshadowed by the bile. Luckily, this is only evident on forums - in 'the real world' most people do not do forums and only access the positive... It annoys me no end that papers like The Star still strive to sensationalise the most innocuous comments by giving them headline kudos. Still, I think, in time, that will all but disappear and allow us to enjoy the positive aspects of Pete.
Ever the optomist!! X”

Morning all

Great post Trinsk..

I've stopped buying the Star and have cancelled my subscription to pressdisplay..I've also let them know exactly why I have done it.

I don't suppose it'll make one iota of difference..but it certainly made me feel better

The ggod thing is..it doesnt seem to have turned anyone off of Pete..even my mum adores him..she got quite cross yesterday and wanted to know why those nasty papers dont just leave that poor boy alone..

Hopefully thats what many think and it'll backfire on them..

Speak to you soon

Have a nice eveyone xxxxxxx

I've been thinking about it a lot ....and I think that most people will have firm beliefs in particular HM's. If a bad story was in the paper about a HM I didn't like,I'd go with the flow...if it was someone I liked ....I would defend them.
All the anti-Pete posts are by people who really didn't like him anyway , and they aren't ever going to change their minds , so they have a good old gloat about it. I am inclined to disbelieve the posters who claim it has ''put them off him''....the kinds of people who take the time to post in surveys or on forums are pretty die-hard fans and haters ....the GBP aren't really that bothered!! IO think it will make very little difference long term exactly what is printed , and the fact that he is still ''newsworthy'' is probably more important than anything else.
Do you honestly believe that anyone who is a fan is going to stop because of a newspaper article ...or anyone who is a hater is going to be swayed ...I doubt it.
If his music is good it will sell to fans and to music lovers ...the haters were never going to like it anyway...same with his book.

Afternoon all - hey, but you're a lot of night owls
How will I be able to sleep now knowing you're all on here

Great posts everyone especially yours. trinsk. Very interesting indeed. What was that Pete said about people with TS having special talents? - never knew Mozart had TS and he was a child prodigy - seems Pete's right on the button there, then

Thanks for the link to the TS AGM article too, rosemary.
I couldn't agree more with your comments. I think there are probably far more people about who'd really like to hear news like that, which is known to be FACT than the negative stuff that's constantly bandied about and which turns out more often than not to be total fiction.

Have a good day everyone. I'm feeling really postive now - even up for my bout of supermarket shopping

See you later.

Great post Trinsk you realy put it clearly what kids with tourettes go through in school. Bullying is awful for anyone I know because of my own son who has high functioning autism and what he went through at school. It was aliving nightmare. Therefore it is amazing what Pete has achieved in educating people and making it cool to have tourettes. The public took Pete into thier hearts and no matter what the gutter press try to do they will not change that . Most people only know and will remember the beautiful human being they saw in the BB house and will be interested in seeing what he does in his music career and will be wishing him well in whatever he does.

Hi Susan you are right they should stop talking about it but they wont because they want to believe that Pete said it .

My son , now 18 has ADHD , TS, dyslexia and mild OCD ...he was very lucky in that being bullied was never a problem....he had a very supportive school and headmaster , he was dually statemented for both behaviour and specific learning difficulties which meant he brough a lot of resources into the school with him ,80% of the time he had support staff who could also help other children. He walked a tightrope to avoid exclusion and remain in mainstream school, but despite numerous suspensions etc he got right through to GCSE's passed a few and has a full time job. It was a hard slog getting him through it all , but I look at him now and am so proud that we made it!!

I am a pete fan (although i don''t post much in here) but I had to give my opinion on yesterdays Daily Star story, I would of posted it on the main forum but whenever I stick up for Pete no one listens...

Basically I do still believe Pete is a genunie guy. I think the Pete we saw on Big Brother is the real Pete and I don't believe I have been conned. In my opinion the problem is that he is very misguided. I believe that article yesterday was in response to all the Pete and Cherry split up/ Pete and Nikki meet up stuff. I think that by saying it was a sham Pete felt that he may get some credit for admitting it. It's the same with the Heat interviews he has done recently saying how sorry he is. In his mind he probably thinks people will start to like him again because of it and actually it's having the opposite effect. We all saw from that Heat interview that Pete can't bear the public hating him and I believe that is evident when you read articles such as this.Meanwhile Nikki is much more media savvy, she plays the victim act very convincingly and lets Pete damage his reputation with these articles. However the worrying thing is no one seems to be stopping him and if he carries on like this, soon there will be no career left for him. Shouldn't there be an agent or someone, stopping these stories?

When Pete said that he and Nikki stayed together for publicity I don't think he meant publicity to make more money, I think he meant publicity to keep people interested in him until he releases his song and his book.

However Pete should know better than to go to the press to try and sort out his problems. After the whole "I dumped Nikki coz she was crap in bed" misquote thing, you'd think he'd know better than to trust the press. There was a small article in New magazine that summed up Pete's situation right now. He's been pulled in so many different directions and has no idea which is the right way. It's daunting for anyone to face but for someone as naive and misguided as Pete it's even worse.

Wanda it is hard work and well done you and your son you have every right to be proud of his achievements. My son is 23 and was statemented for special educational needs. The problem was that at that time staff didnt understand my sons disability and how to support him and because he never complained to them or me we never found out untill he was very badly beaten up by a gang of yobs in the playground. For years he had been trying to hide from the bullies in the library at breacktimes .He would be late arriving at school to avoid travelling on buses with them and would hide until they left at home time.Despite all this he passed all his GCSEs with very good grades and grown into a decent young man. It has been hard work and a struggle to repair the damage to his self esteem and conifdence but we are getting there now . Petes mum wrote about similar things happening to Pete in Heat mag.

I'm glad it all turned out for the best in the end ...but no child should go through that.
My son was very lucky , he ran across the head of the school on the first day , it's a huge school with over 300 pupils in each year group, but for some reason the head took to Joe from that very forst encounter and was always on side, he told me the school was going to be a dull place when Joe left because he's such a character. The head was of the opinion that children like Joe separate the wheat from the chaff as far as teachers are concerned and those that couldn't rise to the challenge Joe presented were not cut out to be teachers!! Because Joe's behaviour/or misbehaviour amused the other kids they never bullied him , just admired his outgoing slightly loony personality!

Hi everyone..

I hardly know which post to quote here as I want to reply to so many.so I'll just say

Congrats on your news Trinks xx

..and thanks Candy_floss for your views, welcome too by the way..

I do worry that Pete is being badly advised and it could be that the fact that he and Nikki share the same agent, John Noel, is causing a conflict of interest...but if Pete as he says didnt give that interview..then what can be done to stop him being misquoted

People say he should sue..but in reality, that isnt really a viable option..

Hoepfully when his book comes out he will explain what happened with Nikki and this wil put it bed once and for all...

On an interesting note..I was chatting with somebody today who is neither a Pete fan nor detractor and she said she cant wait to read the book now..she wants to know what really went on ...so maybe it's not the disaster we all think it is

Take care all

Rosemary I think you are right about the conflict of interest with Pete and Nikki sharing the same agent. Its in Nikkis interest to make the most of the spilt and drag it out as long as possible because it keeps her in the public eye and John Noels will encourage this this for the good of Nikkis career . At the same time I think John Noels thinks it is good for Petes image in creating a bad boy of rock character because in the past they have gone down well in the music industry. Therefore John Noels believes that it is benefiting them both. What do other people think?

I think questions need to be asked as to why John Noel is not protecting Pete a bit more from the media.

Maybe it's becauue Nikki is more demanding where as Pete wil just accept whatever they tel him..

Can you imagien Nikki if she were getting such bad press?..she'd be in the office screaming her head off..

I think Pete is more easy to fob off

I say this out of a lifetimes experience of being easy going and nonconfrontational...people do take advantage.

I think John Noels believes there is no such thing as bad publicity where Pete is concerned .On the other hand John Noel had to do some damage limitation when Nikki came out of the house the second time and I think he has done it at Petes expense. That is because of the kind of image he is creating for Pete. I feel sorry for Pete because he finds this differcult to deal with and is hurt and stressed by the media.John Noels shouldbe careful and protect Pete because of the effects this could have on Petes mental and phyical health

I do worry about Pete, he seems to take it all to heart I think John Noels needs to think very carefully about the way he is handling Pete..or he may just throw his hands up and wlk away from the whole celeb thing..

I've seen it done before..

On a brighter note..enjoy your stew Micky

I think you'll find that although they both have JN agency ,both Nikki and Pete have different agents.
Nikki obviously listens to her agent, whereas Pete just speaks first then gets into trouble with his agent.
Pete's agent is a man, Nikki's is a woman.

Rosemary thats what I fear may happen Pete getting fed up and walking away as you rightly say he wont be the first to do that. Hopefully Pete will get advise from another celeb about living with are awful media. micky you are making me hungry better go and cook my fish.
