Rosemary's quite right in that this was a light-hearted comment..... and prompted by uninformed critical remarks that I've seen on these forums made by people who appear to have no idea what constitutes current musical appeal.

I know for a fact that those who have made these remarks are middle-aged or older, so my comment was factual, not ageist. It wasn't designed to touch the nerve it clearly has, more to cajole those who have previously condemned Pete's music for having no appeal whatsoever.

So thanks for the insight into your own experiences of the music scene hrh7. Now l know you, at least, have enjoyed a muddy festival or two, I'm happy.
I don't really think that I can "get personal" about others unless I name names, can I?

My interpretation of zuzus post is that she is inviting
those few people that comment unfavourably on Pete's musical abilities to go to one of his gigs as it's only those who have actually been to one of his gigs and listened to his music first hand that can make any valid comments.
I really do not think zuzu was aiming her comments at anyone in particular.
And anyway what has happened to the "It's okay to make tongue in cheek comments" that are so fashionable on this forum

Zuzu wasn't being 'agist' at all, it was just a light-hearted comment , with a little bit of fact, being that most of the people on here who call his music, are infact middle aged, or older, that was all, and she definatly wasn't 'getting personal' about anyone, I don't even know why you would even assume that she was talking about you anyway, I mean, she gave no names at all, so I don't understand why it would seem to of offended you.

I think she was just tryin to show all of those who call Pete and his music, that he as been working hard, and just because he isn't in the press all the time doesn't mean that he isn't working very hard, and also that a lot of people call his music, even though they have never been to a gig, and seem him perform, and probably haven't really given it a chance.

Pete's gigs are deffinatly for everyone and anyone who want to have a wicked time, and lots of fun, and I think the fact that its obvious how much fun Pete is having, and the lovedogs on stage, really makes a wicked atmosphere, that people of any age would enjoy

Unless i have missed something , i've not seen any FM's "calling" Petes music on this forum in a long time , be they middle aged or not .

I dont think many people are that interested tbh.

Proving my point that it is only those who have actually been to one of Pete's gigs know what they are talking about.
I think you will find that all in all the many people who have actually seen him perform live have only had good comments to make.

And it does seem to me that more are listening to Petes music with an open mind, rather than making disparaging comments before they even understand what its all about, which is excellent

of course it wont appeal to everyone, nothing ever does thank goodness, how boring if we all loved the same things

I know Pete gets a lot of stick around here, but I think what he as done for people with tourettes, like helped them get diagnosed etc, probably means a lot more to people than which big brother housemate is in the papers the most that week, what Pete as acheived is probably kind of life changing to some people. somethng which I think he should be realy proud of, I know I'm proud of him for doin it, so, yay Pete...well done

I wasn't aware i'd said anything unappreciative about Pete. I thought Pete was absolutely brilliant on BB7 and this is an appreciation thread connected with Big Brother, doesn't say anything about appreciating his music. And actually I haven't said I don't, just that I don't go to his concerts.

I agree, Pete was wicked in big brother, I loved watching him on that, I miss it as well,

I've not said people need to appriciate Pete's music, like rosemary said, its not going to appeal to everyone, which is fine, and I don't go around everywere, like telling people, oh, you've got to like Pete, you've got to like Petes music etc, all I do is stick up for Pete when people are being nasty and horrible about him, and giving unconstructive critisism about him (by the way, I'm not saying that you do that or anything, I'm just saying I don't, and trying to explain that I just try to stick up for him )

Not heard of a case where it impairs hearing though. Hmmm there's a first. I'm sure Pete wouldn't advocate smoking, especially if it makes a mess of your clothing. I appreciate him for that alone. Except when you're making a point of how you wrote it like that in big letters, trying to make the point that I'd got it wrong. Then, I think you need to make sure you make your point correctly. Loses something otherwise imo!

Back on topic, it will be really interesting to see how Pete does with this single. I actually don't hugely dislike his music, just a bit bland perhaps for my taste. However, as with many acts, I'm sure he's a whole lot more interesting and appealing live. There's something about a live gig and enthusiastic audience.

Yep I agree...there is nothing like live music..recordings just do not compare..I'm really excited about seeing Pete at the O2
I've never been there before, even though I live really close.

The last gig I went to was Paul Weller..I am a huge fan, but the accustics were appaulling..although, it was in a kind of disused barn place..so hopefully the accusics in the purpose built indigo2 will be better

live music is so much better and you get the atmosphere aswell that you don't get with a recording.

I've never been to the o2 either, so am really looking forward to seeing pete there.

Absolutely agree with you hrh7 - a live performance is always much better than the recordings. You get the atmosphere.

Whilst I agree that Petes music will not be to everyone's taste, he is certainly a showman. He enjoys being on stage performing his material to an enthusiatic crowd.

His music was never going to be mainstream as its not him. Can you imagine him sitting on a stool, wearing a suit and singing a ballad?? Doesnt bear thinking about!
