im finding this double a-side thing alittle confusing....

It's a dog's mess really.

Releasing it as a double A-side was a big mistake IMO

I'm not too unhappy at her not being No.1.

#2 looks incredibly likely as I think combining her sales at the moment would probably push her up by 1 and a few days sales instead of just a single day's one will be more accurate

Anyway , as long as she's top 10 with any single then she's still doing great

spiidey , 1,500 sales a day isn't really gonna happen , most days will be more IMO

Saturday will be a key day in the sales on the single as it's straight after the Sport Relief night.

Still , any top 5 position is great. Hope Spirit makes the top 5 by Sunday if only to hear it on the Chart shhow!

I have no problem with what you have said and I agree that her management team have to tread very carefully to get the balance right. Leona can't be everywhere and has visited South Africa as part of the Sport Relief project. As a fan, I think she has given lots back to her fans in this country with several TV performances and a CD single with 2 remixed tracks and a brilliant new track on it.

Spirit is a fantastic album. Every track is great, well written, well produced and sung beautifully. Her second album will be intertesting as Spirit is a hard act to follow, but I think Leona's 2nd album will be as good as her first although probably will not sell as much.

I think she's showed us fans enough live performances to last a life time. The only other time I've heard her mime was on GMTV singing bleeding love and a moment like this.
And in a weird way, I'm kind of glad she mimed this morning, cos it saves her voice for friday night.. where I'm 100% positive she'll sing live

I don't think many, if any, of her fanbase will hold it against her for miming a morning performance on GMTV. It's hard enough to talk at that hour, let alone belt out Footprints in the Sand. The important thing is she has never mimed any performance without just reason, and she has always maintained that she doesn't like to mime. GMTV has been the only place where she has. Leona is constantly giving as much as she can, but she is only one woman and she can only be so many places at once.

A core fanbase takes time to establish, and she's only on her first album/second single. An act like Take That have had years to establish the fanbase they have now.

And the midweek doesn't suggest she doesn't have a fanbase IMO. Look at GA , they have a huge core fanbse yet they chart averagely on most of their singles and are still successful.

As long as your singles are generating interest and are hitting the top 10 , you have a fanbase. And given the massive album sales and the single still charting the top 10 (probably top 5 after combining the sales of downloads and physicals) shows that she does have a big fanbase indeed.

The only way it would be bigger would be if her fans were like Take That or Westlife fans and we all know they're in a different league!

Britain has produced many World Class female singers in the past Shirley Bassey, Eartha Kit to name just two, we even produced an artist from the first reality show, Sheana Easton, who we lost to the U.S and who is still performing to full houses their.

Leona is actually even better than these, if that is possible, I just hope we don’t lose her to the U.S.

Leona Lewis will continue to astound us with her vocal talents and she will follow in the footsteps of Whitney Houston and the like, as far as power ballads are concerned that is, but I feel that Leona is capable of even more and it would be nice if she sang other types of songs as well as power ballads, songs like Paradise that she wrote and recorded herself before X-Factor, or songs by Burt Bacharach and Hal David, she could even turn her voice to Jazz if she wished, she has already tried and been successful with modern song writers and producers and the choice of styles is endless, of course Leona is more than capable of singing beautifully in any of these styles.

Now, I’m not saying that she should give up on the Power Ballad, but she could incorporate and maybe mix all the styles that are available, and even create her very own style, this would show off her versatility.

Her management team seem to be guiding her in the types of songs that she should perform, and they seem be only happy with songs that show off her ability to perform vocal gymnastics when she is capable of much more than this, all her performances have been successful and very moving and heart wrenching so far. But wouldn’t it be nice to hear her sing something that is uplifting rather than dark, brooding, sad or edgy, something that makes you want to hug the stranger stood next to you at the bus stop, or to lift your child up and make them giggle or to look into your lovers eyes and make you shiver with joy, now that’s a power song if ever I heard it.

Leona is absolutely capable of singing songs that cause this sort of reaction, I just hope she does this in what is going to be a long and lasting career.

Her next album, I'm sure will be successful, especially if she gets to have full control of it's content, although she had a certain amount of control with Spirit, it is to be hoped that she will be given more control on the next, if so we can look forward to some really great music and Leona's wonderfull voice.

With very loose reference to Amazing's post, I think its unfair that people crticise Leona for the way her career is being managed. I personally don't think she as an individual is in a position to make decisions about TV appearances, magazine interviews, where she goes and what she does. That is all down to her management at this stage and if I were in her position I would trust the people in the industry just as she is doing. If there is any criticism to be made SURELY it should be directed at her management or am I missing something. Only long established artists have real sway over these things and even then you hear of clashes because management don't agree with the decisions being made. Leona is just starting out. Let's reserve judgement until years down the line. I also think that Modest are looking to create longevity for this artist (in fact I know this to be true) and I think we'll all be surprised later down the line. I wish her and all the other newcomers (Duffy, Adele, Leon etc) all the luck in the world :sleep:

I agree alot of the time people wont buy an album after only hearing one single they like, because sometimes that may be the only song they like, So by the second single if thats two songs they like chances are they will like more so they just buy the album instead of that single. And 'you bring me down' is a great reason to buy the single they should of publicized that better a performance of it would be great, they underestimate that song imo.

This is pretty amazing that this is the most requested song!! how good is that, suggests she is going to blow up over there, i think the album will be even more of a success because f the two new tracks which i think will make it a little bit more contemporary, gunna b goooood!!

Sadly i think we will. She is appearing on Oprah Winfrey show next week, thats all it really takes isnt it. OW is watched by millions, and no one could help but fall in love with her, she is the best IMHO. A real star.

I agree on the point about the tour, all her fans have stressed that we want a small UK tour at the end of the year, and many of us arent happy about it. But the point about people falling in love with bleeding love and not her is ridiculous, what you dont seem to understand is what makes bleeding love so special is leonas voice! It would not been as big a hit if it wasnt for her stunning vocals and what she did to the song, ive heard other versions, indie etc and just doesnt have the same effect, its a good song so it would of done well no doubt had someone else released it (i.e jesse) but not to the extent it has with leona- world wide smash. So people may be falling in love with the song but a part of that is her voice and thats where she is gaining so many international fans- just look on her official fansite and see how many international fans she gains EVERYDAY- its tons. She has already has a large international following even if her UK fan base isnt as big as the boybands we have here who can garentee #1s. She has a much bigger fanbase than most artists in the UK i.e kate nash.

Can't believe Spirit is back in the top 10

I expect the second album to be twice as good as Spirit really. A first album is always experimental to some extent, and Spirit has been a growing process for Leona as much as anything else. Now that she has a stronger idea of who she is as an artist and the type of sound she is comfortable with, I think the songs on her second album will reflect that growth/artistic direction and be much better for it.

I agree, there quite a few things that i have had issue with, but her not giving back to the UK isnt one of them she has done more than enough, we get live performances all the time, the internet exists so it doesnt matter where she is in the world we get to see it, the only thing that bothered me is the tour thing but its not in stone yet it may change, some things her management have done bothers me but thats not her fault, lol.
