Thanks. The other dancer who blogged about the video also said something similar. Suggests she is easy to work with I guess.

Haha I know!

It's a shame we've lost some people who used to post regularly (e.g. Coolies, C14E) but we've gained loads of new people so that's great.

Congrats on the 45,000 posts guys

Hopefully we'll have another surge with FM like we did with BL and Spirit last year where we got like nearly 10,000 posts in like a week

I found this interesting. It's the forum for MTV Asia awards. Click on Forum and then Leona to read the comments. It's amazing how some of them seem to have adopted her. http://www.mtvasiaawards.com/Malaysia

Leona has a bigger range, here's why (about to get technical ):

Christina's belting range always maxes out at E5; if you want to put this into context, an E5 is the highest note Christina sings in the big vocal opening to "aint no other man".

Another example of an E5 is Leona's performance of "a million love songs", towards the end, where she sings a different melody to take that in the chorus, she hits the E5 on the word "love".

The next note above that is an F5, and Christina reaches this in a studio recording of "Turn To You", when she sings the money note during the word "Run". She CANNOT hit this note live, because she clearly strains.

However, Leona ALWAYS hits the elusive F5 in that note in bleeding love, where she sings the word "EVERY" in the bridge ("wearing these wounds for EVERY...")

Leona has belted notes higher than an F5 too, without straining, such as an F#5 during the key change of "I Have Nothing" in XFactor, in the word "My", in the line "Stay in MY arms"

On the basis of belting, Leona has a bigger range. However, both Christina and Leona can effectively access their head voices, although im not sure what each of their highest notes are. They can also both sing in the whistle register (JUST about, not like Mariah though)

Hope that helps

I was just going by some vids on Youtube.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cBnZpGO-460 (This vid shows Leona's highest note F#6 and that's studio, she hasn't hit that live that we've seen.)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mKYhQFCsUxU (Christina going past that and up to A6 live, not studio.)

But yeah I think you're right about belting with Leona being better.

Yeah, I think Leona's high notes are better as well, because they are actually part of the songs.

I wonder if xtina could sing the words of the songs in the sixth octave as Leona did in CIBM for instance, rather than just emitting some random notes just for the sake of it.

Yup I'm not sure if she could. Leona's are definitely more fluid and integrated into the song as opposed to random screeches.

I loved Leona's CIBM high note as well where she actually sings words that high. Hope she does more like that in the future.

It says on this video that leonas highest belt is G#5 (this is studio though), is that higher than F#5?

I definitely think Christina has much more power in her belting though, she has a more powerful voice. And I thought leona had her on range head voice anyway coz it seems more natural.

On this video it says chistina hits F#5 also live?

Yeah leonas are falsetto etc is more natural and tuneful than xtinas. xtina can do high notes but their quite random.

Yep, G#5 is higher than F#5 (it is 2 notes higher ); i knew she could belt higher than F#5, but i wasnt familiar with her studio recordings, just her xfactor performances thanks!

You're right; Christina definitely has more power to her belt, she's more of a "dramatic soprano". Infact, Leona's belting tone is quite thin compared to other great singers; Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey all HAD a thicker belting tone.

Christina and Leona can reach the same notes in their head voice with the same ease, but Leona just uses her head voice more, whereas Christina uses her chest more, so we just assume Leona finds it easier; it is just their unique styles

That F#5 is live, but it doesnt even last for a second, so its not really vaild. Leona can hold notes above E5, which is very important.

Watch this video of Christina until the 0:20 second mark, and you will see how she struggles :

“NEW YORK (Top40 Charts/ Virgin Media) - Leona Lewis has reached number one again, this time topping Virgin Media's brand new Music On Demand chart. The Top Ten chart was put together for the first year anniversary of the music on demand service, and sees Leona Lewis' hit single Bleeding Love as the first music video to receive an amazing one million views.

Virgin Media launched its Music On Demand service in July 2007, providing music fans over two thousand videos from hundreds of artists, and giving customers the flexibility to watch their favourite music videos whenever they choose.
Since launch, Virgin Media customers have enjoyed nearly 150 million videos - with X Factor winner Leona Lewis being the first artist to hit the million mark.”

sorry if posted already.

“DUFFY is continuing her path to world domination.

She has bagged the gig to sing the theme tune to forthcoming SIMON PEGG film How To Lose Friends And Alienate People.

Movie bosses asked her to write a new track for them.

A source said: “It will be a romantic number. Producers think her involvement will be great for raising the film’s profile.”

The single is due out at the same time as the film, in October.”

Hmmm doubt Duffy would be doing this and Bond theme tune..she wouldn't be able to release both in October would she?!

Some hope still for Leona and Bond!

Thanks, thats interesting! we did have a discussion on vocal ranges etc not long ago- particularly soprano, collutra (sp?) soprano, alto, mezzo etc.

Any idea what category leona is closest too? its quite confusing for contemporary singers, some people have said shes an alto with collutra soprano cababilites like mariah (but leonas lower notes arent as good- although much better now), others say lyric soprano..i dont think we got anywhere lol! Most said xtina is a sprinto soprano.
