Get the Pacific 1002 DVD from Asda. Gets great reviews and has won awards. Priced at about £44, and you get a 3 year guarrentee as well. It can be mase multi region within seconds - just do a search on the web.

There is a massive thread open in this forum if you want to read some more views on it.

One point, i took me a while to find one in stock, but its worth the wait.

I have a Pacific 1002, but have relegated it back to spare as it skips frames on Region 1 disks.

However; it plays R2, VCD, SVCD disks perfectly. So if you are in the market for a cheap DVD player I can recommend it, but with the R1 caveat.

I see that WH Smith are about to re-stock the little Cyberhome CH400 for £50. This is a great little machine and will play anything you throw at it, including discs of photos and raw mpegs. As one guy said in his review of it .. it's the best fifty quid I spent since my weekend in Amsterdam!!

well as MVCD comes more popular (and it will) i will be getting a dvd player with the MVCD function.

(btw MVCD - Better quality then SVCD on *1* CD!!!!)

I'm not certain that MVCD is about to take off.

I'd just like to sing the praises of the cyberhome again. the fact that it can play raw mpegs (I & II) is pretty cool but the best thing is this...

cyber home constantly update their firmware, you just download it from their website, burn it to cd, then pop it in the player. So should, at some point in the future people start pimping say some kind of mpeg4 based VCD then cyberhome can just add the codec.

To be honest it jerks me right off that other manufacturers don't do this, my £500 pioneer doesn't play mp3 and i think it is a disgrace.
