See, that I didn't understand. The guys have had bascially two weeks between dances to learn the jive/tango, yet Karen clearly said to Gary something along the lines of 'I've got three days to teach you this', why has he had such a short period of time?

If pressure of work is that great then he simply shouldn't have agreed to do the show - the training hours needed to do well, especially with no dance experience, are not exactly top secret information.

He doesn't appear to have too many inhibitions holding him back, either.

He doesn't have time and the result looks like that. I have no sympathies with him.

One hours training or not, I reckon Rhodes is a goner this week ~ it's the curse of the "day in a life" feature, it saw Dennis Taylor & Ray Fearon off!

Yep, either SCD commands all your time, or you don't bother doing the show at all, IMO. No doubt he has commitments to keep to, but he could, and should, have cut them back.

Have to agree... look at Christine, a live tv show from Monday to Friday and 3rd on the training table. It can be done!

Me too ~ he seems to be really trying hard, unlike Rhodes who just bangs on & on about how hard he's trying whilst gracing Karen with his presence for mere minutes per day!

I wonder if Hayley's a very strong teacher? We don't know that much about her capabilities yet, and to still be so wooden after so much training . Or maybe he's just the anti-Austin and hasn't got a dancing cell in his body?

On the strength of his one hour training session, and the fact that he sucks, I do kind of hope he gets knocked out this week. It seems everyone is trying harder than he is.

If it was me at the bottom of the leaderboard I'd be training every hour God sent for this Saturday.

Training can't necessarily give you performance skills and just because he can put his body in the right places, doesn't ever mean he'll be a good dancer. Mark has no performance experience whatsoever and whilst, as a sportsman, he's obviously used to putting hours training on the physical side, he has to work on presenting the dance too. Time to getting the acting coach in me thinks.

Didn't she come third in the NZ version of the show?

EDIT: Just checked the Wiki - she came third in the 2006 series and again last year. Can't be all that bad

Actually Craig was talking about Andrew with the first comment not Mark.

Remember he has no experience of projecting himself and is not as outgoing as Austin.

I thought that apart from Austin they all looked ropey actually- yes even Tom

I agree felinefantastic
Tom was very flat footed in the jive and didn't have any bouuce, I am not at all surprised about Austin.

Tom isn't turning out to be as good as I was expecting- maybe he's in for a journey!

I thought Craig was a bit on the harsh side with his comments when they danced, but the more I see the more I do think smug and camp about sums it up! He seems lovely, I'm not saying he actually is smug, but he comes over that way when he dances.

Having said that he's the second best celebrity male in the contest right now, unquestionably.

My hubby was surprised to see Gary Rhodes' wife. I am no model myself, but he said, 'she's not a looker is she?'!

I'd seen her before and got the impression she enjoys her hubby's cooking! As I say though, I'm now beauty myself and I am far heavier than she is!

It must be terrible being married to a chef and trying to keep your figure! Although most celebrity chefs seem to be fairly slim themselves.

I thought she was his mother.... I did, honest!

Every year for one guy the light bulb comes on at some point and they go from okay to great, partly because they just realise how much they love dancing.

Think of Matt Dawson, Mark Ramp, Colin Jackson, etc. They were never duffers but they were quite competent if not exciting at the start and then one week they just 'got it' (sometimes after a little help from an expert of some kind!).

I think the difference this series is that Austin 'got it' during his training before the series even started. He says he is loving it and it really shows.

To be fair I had just got in from a long day on a course in London. My brain can't have been working properly.

It'd take a bit more than SpecSavers to sort me out....

I googled for some pics of Gary & his wife - and she still looks like his mother to me.....
