Is there anyone who hasn't had the 'smug' tag levelled at them this season?

Well, I wonder when another Austin is Smug (or 'Insert Name here' is Smug) thread will pop up again. And here we are.

Hmmmm, yes, I have seen Tom & Austin on ITT. IMO Austin is funny & self-deprecating whereas Tom is smarmy, overly-dramatic and self-obsessed... different strokes & all that.

I don't think either Austin or Tom are smug or arrogant. Quite the opposite, they come across rather well when interviewed and they both seem to be talented when it comes to dancing. Why do people have to bash one celebrity in order to defend their favourites, and why has this become an Austin versus Tom issue?

For the record, I don't think any of the contestants this year is smug or arrogant, and smug is really the new pink isn't it.

Awwww, thank you hun for that lovely post! You're right, why is it on here you can only prove your like for someone by putting someone else down.

And can we please stop with the smug, arrogant and cocky for any of the celebs, it's lazy and old now!

Don't get the Austin fascination at all.
I'm the perfect demographic for him, redblooded hetro female mid 30s, but don't find him REMOTELy attractive, I would go as far to say I actually find him unattractive, I REALLY DO!!! Jeez rotten!! And I don't rate his dancing at all. along with Rachel , he's a teacher's pet and totally over marked every week to keep him in, sad really He's in for a crash landing when he's left to the public's reaction!!!

I agree entirely. I have no idea where all this smug stuff has come from either.

I don't buy into the 'smug' label for anyone either tbh, but after getting three 9's for a Chacha that was pretty ordinary, and having done little or nothing to improve his poor use of his arms, I wouldn't be surprised if maybe Austin does start to believe he can do no wrong - at least any wrong that is going to be picked up on

Austin has been good at nearly everything he has done apparently. In the rugby world, you can have a lot of fun being smug and arrogant about that, and he has been. In rugby evryone accepts that.

At the start of this series, I expressed concern that Austin's jokes might slip into what was more appropriate for the rugby world, but he has been very restrained and I think he is doing very well diplomatically.

Some people in the SCD forum seem to be hyper-sensitive about any tiny little thing which can be construed as a fault.

Austin is smug

Dont think he is really, just so nice seeing the name 'austin' instead of 'tom'

And for what must be the 100th time, peeps must learn the difference between confidence and smugness

Smug, are you having a laugh, not once has he come across as this. Why do we need this thread? They are the only couple that make me laugh each week and actually remamber to have fun. The others are too desperate.

It was only a matter of time before the 'smug' label was chucked at Austin too. Is there anyone left who hasn't been branded yet?

Rachel, but remember she is dull and overmarked, which is practically the same thing.

Absolutely.

I thought Austin was great last night. His dance was SO much more entertaining than rachel's

I really saw with him last night that he's just a natural at it. He just goes out there and has a good time and is completely at ease withwhat he's doing.

I'd say he is relaxed and confident, which is not the same as being smug.

I think he comes across as a really nice person, much nicer than Tom who just strikes me as a someone I'd never tire of slapping. He's got the dancer's girn down pat.”

Particularly as a scrum half.

I think he's been lovely and very self-deprecating. I don't know who I want to win yet but he's up there.

I also like Tom, and I don't think he's smug and arrogant either.

Echoed my feelings precisely. I think Austin fans can do better than "well if you think that's smug look at Tom" (I like them both).

I think he works hard and expects to do well.
I think he is very competitive.
He hates losing.
He's a wise guy.
He can be very sharp-tongued.
Smug? Don't know and don't care.
You wouldn't want to cross him though - from what one hears.

anyone who thinks Austin and Erin are smug really need to get a new dictionary.

you'll find words like determined , focused , driven and also the word humble.

Erin has to be one of the sweetest people i've ever seen on tv.

Smug ?? i think not.

the only smug ones on scd are Tom and Brendan.

I'm not seeing any smug coming from Austin, or Tom for that matter.

can we just say everyone is smug and leave it at that? ... saves any future 'smug' threads being made ...
