No way - this smacked of serious protectionism.

No, it was a tad dull and no heel leads, but it was still an excellent dance - just not perfect. But Rachel is lovely and she's great with Vincent.

I loved it to pieces, but it wasn't worth 40.

Loved their rhumba last week but I found my attention wandering whilst they were doing this dance.

No I found it very flat.
Her facial expressions went from fixed smile to tired and bored. Very off-putting. She even did it coming down the stairs at the start of the show.

Obviously the judges want someone to be the frontrunner because having no frontrunner allowed the public to concentrate their support on the underdog.

No! Good but not perfect - who knows what the judges want this year?!

I didn't see it as a 4x10 dance. I will have to watch it again.

I agree entirely...no.
Their Rumba last week was something special, this week's foxtrot was probably technically very good, but..dull, dull, dull.

NO! NO! NO! Cannot see what the judges saw in this dance at all I am totally bemused.

It was so boring:yawn::yawn::yawn::yawn:

It needed a good kick the backside to get it going for me.

I think that is great if you can spot those. I'm going to watch it a second time. I'm surprised Len gave it a 10 without a heel lead.

Yes and no. I thought that while the dance was the best of the night, but in absolute terms I didn't think it deserved any 10s, let alone 4. I'm no dancer whatsoever, but managed to notice the lack of heel leads, and, for me, it just didn't have that something extra that 40/40 implies. (I felt the same about Matt's 40 last year, which I think was in part because he managed to remember what the steps were. But I digress.)

The problem was that it was blatantly a better dance than Tom & Camilla's and Lisa & Brendan's, which left the judges with nowhere to go but award 10s for the dance. Thus in my view the judges ended up over-marking Rachel because they had previously over-marked two other couples.

In my opinion, speaking as a dancer, I totally agree withe the perfect 40 score. The foxtrot is such a difficult dance, and Vincent had choreographed such a slow foxtrot, which is the hardest to maintain control, but the least impactive.

Rachel, from what I can remember was technically all there, and the song suited her personality and relatinship with Vincent. I've yet to re-watch their dance so my opinion may change on second viewing.

Excellent point..I feel that has been a feature of this series. Len and Bruno in particular, I know they are always regarded as the "kindest" when it comes to marking..but this year they started throwing around 9's almost from the start.

What you said. Love the foxtrot, but not a perfect 40 dance.

Purely a question for information from a non-dancer - wouldn't a slow foxtrot be (relatively) easier for a female celebrity than a male as the former does not have to worry about leading the dance, and her male professional partner can help her maintain her posture in a way that a female professional cannot?

Interesting. I am certainly not going to argue with you, my knowledge of dancing would fit on a postage stamp.
However, you say it was the least "impactive" in terms of style/choreography, and judging from the posts here many people agree. Should a dance not have impact and be visually entertaining to be classified as "perfect" ?..a score of 40 indicating perfection, or close to it.
