A band called Force MD's had a hit in 1986, but I don't think that's right.......

no

I am informed by the younger colleague who chose the band for me to clue, that they are some modern and positive beat combo.

could just as easily have been an occupied local RNLI station...where the boat has been stolen after a Republican coup de-institutionalised the place!

There is a band called 'Tomba vira'.

(tomb = Mausoleum. Republican = IRA)
But cant make rest fit.

what does R N L I stand for? if you stop it being national, de-institutionalise it and make it non-monarchical? then remove the -boat?

a mausoleum is a ----- of the dead? so the opposite of it would be?

I think that must be right.

I'll try this one. It seems a bit ridiculous, but it is getable, if a tad contrived.

There was once a rather gay lady, who was trying to learn to sing, she had her scales perfect, except she could never got the 4th note of the tonic scale in tune. Then she found a new teacher who taught her the correct breathing, which enabled her to sing the note in tune and she lived happily ever after.

The only thing I'm fairly confident about is that it starts 'Les'........

So I'll try some 'Les' bands and if one of them's right await an explanation

Less Than Jake, Les Rythmes Digitales (again!), Les Negresses Vertes, Les Savy Fav.....

Hi Terrence

If your linking gay with 'Les' you are on the right track, but 'Les' isn't part of the answer.
I might give it away if I say more, but also note 'lady' in context.

Just seen this, it's not right, but one word in there is a synonym for part of the answer.

If you mean the 4th note of the tonic scale (Fa) then you have another part of the puzzle.
