Killing the show
digicam
22-11-2008
Can someone explain to me why so many people on the forum this year seem to want to kill the show off? There seems to be a huge amount of critical threads. Don't people like to just watch and enjoy the dancing any more?
I just don't understand why there needs to be so much animosity about nearly every aspect of the program. It seems like a deliberate attempt to sabotage it by a lot of forum members.

It's amusing just looking at the threads page, without looking at the threads themselves. It's like a school playground. "Come on, let's all gang up against so-and-so..."

Tell you what though - I hope Kristina comes back next year.

I hope she comes back too, I think she will.
The show will survive with lessons learned - hopefully.

I agree she didn't get to show her full potential this year.

I totally agree with your comments Rowdy, I just look at the thread titles and wonder how posters dream them up sometimes

A lot of forums are like that. This one used not to be, but this year things seem to have changed.
I wouldn't get worked up about it affecting the show though, its only a small number of people on a forum.

absolutely agree digicam. i've held off posting for a while now for this very reason and just taken the plunge tonight. Will try and stick to the threads that are positive or have constructive criticism. Do you think I'll succeed!?

On a positive note, I'm lovin Strictly this year. Some lovely partnerships going on. I too hope Christina and Brian come back next year. It was very refreshing having them along for the ride (Alesha rocks - my all time fav)

I forgot about Brian, what with Kristina and all (can't seem to get her off my mind for some reason ). Yeah, he's excellent, too.

I think some people use forums like this partly to work out their issues...or, put another way, as a form of catharsis.

I don't take things I read in here too seriously in terms of being an accurate reflection of general sentiment. I think many of those who 'flounce' via the anonymous medium of internet forum would be more measured and thoughtful in another 'arena'.

True but what really mattered for she got. Publicty. She was the most talked about Pro.

I dont think she would have got 20% as much publicity if she partnered any other person. If you aks me who partners Austin adn Tom I would have to stop. She hit the jackpot with Partnering John. Some of the female dancers might had been thinking she drew the short end of the straw but she became the most popular dancer.

This has never happened to any new Pro. If she was with Austin, he would have over-shadowed her. It's funny because even though JS was the biggest news story. He did not over-shadow her but actually enhanced her. As even JS critics said she was doing well coping with him.

I agree with you and also there is a degree of humour not coming across - however voting on a phone is also anonymous so you can argue perhaps their voting patterns might be a reflection of their views.

I saw described somewhere that this is BBC's flagship programme. If that were ever so, going from flagship to sinking ship in one fell swoop is some achievement.

Unfortunately, I don't think it is necessarily the forum members who are to blame for the way this year's comments are going. A lot of the blame must go to the show's producers and judges for the way they seem to have deliberately tried to inject an amount of controversy into what was always a good-natured entertainment show.

I get the impression that they have done it in an effort to boost the viewing figures for their ratings war with ITV - and the end result is that the viewing public end up with a less enjoyable experience. Hence the increase in the number of critical postings.
