I don't think it was simply the word 'knickers' that made people uncomfortable with what Len said - although I admire the way posters have used that diversionary tactic

I think it was the fact that he suggested Christine should whip her knickers off and wave them in the air (or words to that effect).

Admittedly, that WOULD be a 'performance'. However, it's not really the kind of 'performance' that Strictly is looking for.

I know it can be difficult to explain 'performance', but Len has - by his own claim - years of experience in judging. Is that really the best he can come up with?

All that said, I think Len would just about have managed to get away with that line (on the basis of Carry On type humour). He overstepped the mark when he started ranting at Craig for challenging him.

That rant, IMO, had a number of subtexts. One of those subtexts, I think, was Len's realisation that his comment - given recent BBC scandals - could get him into trouble. So he displaced all the blame onto Craig

OFFS.

I'm getting so bored with this.

Anyone who was offended with the remark, would you please let me know why? Maybe rewatch the conversation first? I'd really love for someone to answer this as I've asked this queston about eight times over the last week and nobody has replied. Maybe people are just happy being apologistas.

TBH some of the rubbish I read on here is really affecting my enjoyment of the show this year.

Us "disgusted of Tunbridge Wellses", as you put it, haven't been in the woodwork - we have just been trying to hold our tongues and put up with it. ....
It is time that the silent majority found its voice ....
Some of you, especially Ratzakli, have clearly been victims of some kind of selective hearing disorder over the last few decades.

People have been complaining long and loud about television virtually since it's inception - does nobody remember Mary Whitehouse and her ilk?

"Silent majority"? Do me a favour. This dead horse has been flogged for years. Ad nauseum.

And if some judge on SCD making remarks about women's underwear has the power to offend you, you'd be well advised not to venture past your front door.

It's not what he said but how he said it. That shouting, prodding, stabbing of the finger and wild look in his eyes seems out of place in the spirit of the competition.

I couldn't care less about the knickers comment but I don't like that full-on anger, it riles me up too - something I can do without when I'm watching Strictly.

The BBC, by the way, love all this - they wouldn't have repeated it on the results show otherwise and you can bet that precious time will be given to it on ITT.

Knickers comment from Len did not bother me but I am getting very tired of all the fighting and screaming from the judges. It is not entertainment in my book!! I thought Len's outburst on Saturday was embarrassing and obviously he is not dealing with jetlag very well. He has to decide which show he wants to be on, either Strictly or Dancing with the Stars as he obviously cannot do both WELL. I do not think he would get away with such behaviour on Dancing with the Stars!! Very conservative and controlled in comparison with what is going on in Strictly. Len seems to think he is doing us all a favour being on BOTH shows!! I am bored to death with ASK LEN on ITT and the Masterclass with Claudia. I have had more than enough of the judges this year.

Arlene "I just want raw sex" Phillips is equally good at constructive advice.

Let's wait and see if we can see any transformation, I think the finale of DWTS is today. But he's really grumpy this year.

Well it's not like I was offended or anything, it just wasn't funny. He seemed a bit crazy last night, he said that and then he started screaming at Craig (I wasn't paying enough attention to know why), thought he was going to have a heart attack or something.
I thought his behavour was appalling. Very rude and wild.
If he wants to go home I would like the BBC to let him as he lets himself down with the kind of attitude he has been showing recently.
He used to be the calm voice with the kind comments, but no longer.
He is supposed to be the head judge but although I never thought I would say it I feel that Craig is the most fair and honest judge and even go so far as to say Bruno is the most supportive.
