It goes to the telephone company and the BBC. No money is going to charity this year.

OK, I accept the challenge.

Although this has been posted a number of times on this forum, this year SCD does not raise any money at all. Ever since the phonein problems that have affected broadcasters, the BBC issued new guidelines:

Quote:
“ * Premium Rate Telephony is not used to make a profit except if it is to raise money for charitable purposes (see below).
o The BBC will use Premium Rate Telephony where it is the most suitable way to handle large volumes of calls effectively. The lowest viable tariff must be used. ITACU will advise on tariffs
o The only time, in exceptional cases, where we may use premium rate lines to raise money, is in order to raise funds for a BBC charitable initiative.
o In such cases the editorial content of the programme must relate directly to the charitable cause; and
o any such proposals must be cleared at Director level and referred to Editorial Policy in advance.”

I thought it only went to the telephone company setting up the many lines and BT with nothing to the BBC.

There really is no need for bad manners. An answer ( ironically) to a question might be in better order.

The fact that it no longer goes to charity has been discussed I know but we are not all intimately in tune with every thread on the forum!

I wonder myself how the 15p can only cover the costs of the setup when so many are voting.

Read my post below yours - there is no additional revenue that the BBC receives. The 15p I guess is passed on wholly to BT.

Presumably because companies like BT specialise in this sort of thing and have economies of scale.

The BT scale for 09xx numbers is as follows:-

Tariff (what we pay) Typical outpayment (what the beeb pay to BT)

25p fixed fee (inc VAT) 14.10p (ex VAT)
75p fixed fee (inc VAT) 43.92p (ex VAT)
30p per minute (inc VAT) 15.00p per minute (ex VAT)
65p per minute (inc VAT) 38.76p per minute (ex VAT)
100p per minute (inc VAT) 66.00p per minute (ex VAT)
150p per minute (inc VAT) 100.98p per minute (ex VAT)

As others have said, looks like BT have forgone the 10.9p per call they could make by negotiating a 15p tariff with BT.

Thank you for editing your post! I didn't know that no money goes to the BBC - thanks for pointing that out.

Yes, I added

"there is no additional revenue that the BBC receives. The 15p I guess is passed on wholly to BT."

as when I reviewed my original post I felt that my original post:

"Read my post below yours"

was rather curt and might not have been received in the spirit in which it was posted.
