On 5LSX they've just tried to get the producer (Ed something?) to do a 'shwooshing noise' (like Sky Sports do for their graphics) so that Nick could announce the attendance.

The producer is probably Ed Marriage (not sure about spelling) who occasionally reports on Rugby Union for BBC Five Live.

Oh, and AS definitely needs to do his research, as he believes that Newport is a Town, not a City, and that the River Severn flows through it. I'd be pretty worried if it did!

LOL. Thats a cracking unfortunate slip up.

Incidentally Tony Cozier is the third commentator on Test Match Special. They had 40 minutes of chat in tribute to the late scorer Bill Frindall in the lunch break.

Also news of Radio Wales coverage of Celtic Crusaders RL who begin in Super League on Friday (bet the weather calls it off lol).

Quote:
“BBC Wales Sport kicks-off coverage of the Celtic Crusaders Super League rugby with live commentary on their opening Engage Super League away game at Leeds Rhinos on Friday.

The coverage will be broadcast on BBC Radio Wales (AM), BBC Radio Cymru and BBC Wales online from 7.30pm.

Radio Wales coverage is introduced in Radio Wales Sportstime by Dot Davies with special guest John Devereux, former Wales international and rugby league player. Commentary comes from a unique link-up with BBC Radio Leeds.

Commentary on Radio Cymru in Rygbi'r Gynghrair is from Alun Wyn Bevan and former Hull Rugby League player Kevin James live from Headlingley. The commentary will also be available to listeners across the UK on BBC Wales Sport online.

"I'm really looking forward to working with BBC Radio Wales on the Celtic Crusaders first game in Super League," says John Devereux. "It's great to have a Welsh side in the competition and I wish them all the very best. It's going to be a very tough match against Leeds, but I'm sure it will be a great game – I can't wait."

Radio Wales Sportstime, BBC Radio Wales (AM), 7.30pm, Friday 6 February 2009

Rygbi'r Gynghrair, BBC Radio Cymru, 7.50pm, Friday 6 February 2009.”

Elsewhere Yorkshire Radio (the DAB Station that has exclusive Leeds Utd football) have announced they will be doing 1 commentary a week from the Super League.

BBC Locals (Manchester, Merseyside, Leeds, Humberside, York & Cumbria) will continue to have extensive commentaries on their local sides along with the commercial KCFM (Hull & Hull KR) and BCB 106 (Bradford Bulls). BBC London will have Harlequins RL commentaries home & away via online streaming and Radio Warrington will have online streaming of all Warrington home games.

Super (Rugby) League season officially gets under way next weekend but three matches have been brought forward to kick off this weekend for various reasons.
